Bartzokas: We ended the first round undefeated, which is very important for us - Jan 21, 2013

After the 13th win of Olympiacos in the A1 Greek championship, against Apollon Patras, both the coaches of the two teams, as well as some players stated about the game, and not only that.
The coach of Reds, Giorgos Bartzokas stated that "the game and the atmosphere reminded me of old times for Greek basketball and everyone at the gym enjoyed themselves. Apollon is making a great effort and they deserve to be congratulated. It's very pleasant to have fans of both teams in the tribunes. The most difficult thing in Greece is exactly that. Fascism resides in the gyms and in the universities and you don't have the right to have a different opinion when there. I hadn't expected for Apollon to play this zone for 35 - 37 minutes in the game, but it was a good opportunity for us. Coach Vetoulas chose to let us take open shots and you saw the percentages we achieved. Our assists show that we played as a team and the difference in the rebounds show the effort we made. We ended the first round undefeated, which is very important for us. We have continuous trips, we go to Tel Aviv after here and then we go to play against PAOK at Thessaloniki, but it's important that the guys have been working hard. There is nothing wrong with our roster. I'm very content with the effort of my players. We did not have Josh Powell (206-F-83, college: N.Carolina St.) with us tonight, due to his injury, and Giorgi Shermadini (216-C-89), who had to take care of his athletic visa, but that's it".
Finally, concerning the game against Siena, Giorgos Bartzokas commented: "a basketball game lasts 40 minutes, but the one against Siena lasted 40.03 minutes; the last basket was out of time and the only fair thing is for the game to be repeated".

Evangelos Mantzaris (196-G-90): "Congratulations to Apollon for the effort they have been putting in and to the fans for filling up the gym. I wish it was the same everywhere. It was a tough game for us as we knew it would be. We began well, run, pressed and gained a lead which we did not manage to keep to the end. We had some bad periods in the second half as well, but we controlled the game. I think it was very positive to have fans of both teams sitting side by side tonight. People love basketball and the gyms have started once again to fill up". Regarding the game against Siena, the Greek playmaker stated: "I don't know what's going to happen with the objection, our job is to play and focus on the game against Maccabi and up to the cup final".

For Apollon Patras, it's coach, Nikos Vetoulas said: "Olympiacos has many more solutions and it was expected that we wouldn't be able to resist for long into the second half. We tried to protect the post and gave open shots to Olympiacos, but the difference in rebounds was also great. I think we made more than a descent effort and whether we lost by 10 or by 20 it would be the same. Our focus is on the game against Ikaros".

Ivan Krolo (217-C-83): "Congratulations to Olympiacos but also to Apollon for putting in a huge effort. We tried to play hard, but Olympiacos gained a big lead in the second half and it was hard to cover for it. However, I'm sure we did not disappoint our fans with our tonight's performance".

The "Hoosier" Lucas Lecavicius.. - 20 hours ago
Panathinaikos found their own elf to add to their backcourt deep in the Baltic forest, expecting to bring some of the Lithuanian school magic at OAKA. Let's talk about the "Hoosier" Lucas Lecavicius.. Xavi Pascual seems to be close to us in terms of thinking and philosophy. I started this offseason thinking the names of Janis Strelnieks and Daniel Theis, envisioning a new, more 'European' Panathinaikos. The German big man signed with the Celtics, and the 'packaging' of the choice of Leca...   [read more]
Euroleague Basketball presents a basketball calendar proposal to FIBA and other stakeholders - 2 days ago
Euroleague Basketball presented a basketball calendar proposal to its stakeholders - clubs, domestic leagues, coaches, players, officials - and to FIBA on September 21, 2017, with the aim of finding a solution to the current 'FIBA 2017 calendar' and the interference of the so-called 'FIBA windows' with the club competitions, both domestic and international, in Europe and beyond. The proposal takes into account the reality of basketball globally, and aims to find a broad understanding on a...   [read more]
