Williams
American Marcus Williams (191-G-85) had a very impressive game in the last round for Unicaja and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 5 (Top 16).
The 27-year old guard had the game-high 28 points adding three rebounds and four assists for Unicaja in his team's victory, helping them to beat CSKA (#2, 4-1) 94-81. Unicaja is placed at 5th position in Euroleague group E. Unicaja is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. But it was their 3rd lost game this season out of 5 games. In the team's last game Williams had a remarkable six three-pointers out of 12 attempts. It was one of impressive evenings for him as usually he does not deliver so high stats. University of Connecticut graduate has very impressive stats this year. Williams is in league's top in rebounds (3rd best: 2.5rpg).

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 27-year old Polish power forward Maciej Lampe (211-F/C-85) of Caja Laboral. Lampe impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Caja Laboral lost that game 79-90 to slightly higher-ranked FCB Regal (4-1). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the top position in group F. Caja Laboral still maintains its place in the top 3 of the standings, even despite this loss. It was just his team's 1st loss in Top 16, while they won 4 other games. Lampe is well-known by Caja Laboral fans and he already established his position as one of team's most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was Serbian Nenad Krstic (212-C-83) of second-ranked CSKA. Krstic scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds. Despite Krstic's great performance CSKA lost 81-94 to the lower-ranked Unicaja (#5, 2-3). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. CSKA had another "accident". It may be a crucial gamestill good, but 1st lost game is hopefully really an accident. Krstic's teammates are also very good. That's why having such high stats is even more impressive. Krstic has a great season in Euroleague. After 14 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 14.6ppg (8th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Zoran Planinic (198-G-82) of Khimky - 25 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists
5. Bojan Bogdanovic (203-SG-89) of Fener.Ulker - 26 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Nihad Djedovic (198-F-90) of ALBA - 20 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Pete Mickeal (199-F-78) of FCB Regal - 23 points and 5 rebounds
8. Bo McCalebb (178-PG-85) of Fener.Ulker - 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists
9. Milos Teodosic (195-PG-87) of CSKA - 17 points, 3 rebounds and 8 assists
10. Shawn James (207-C-83) of Maccabi T-A - 11 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Towards a new era in Barcelona - 1 day ago
Coach Bartzokas it trying to prepare his team as best as he can for the ACB semi-finals and constantly having in the back of his head the very important summer that is upon them.It is very important that the Blaugrana have started playing e n t i r e matches in a row (which they didn't do and finally cost them in the season) by being efficient in both ends of the floor, which has psychologically 'liberated' them. Georgios Bartzokas is sharing playing minutes among the entire roster as us...   [read more]
