PAOK Thessaloniki lost Donnie McGrath (193-G-84, college: Providence) who will join B.C. Zalgiris Kaunas This is the scond departure from the team of Thessaloniki after the one of Dimitris Haritopoulos (205-F/C-83, agency: Interperformances) some days ago for the team of Lukoil Academik Sofia

The player stated that:

"I have decided to accept a tremendous opportunity offered to me by B.C. Zalgiris Kaunas After speaking it over with people closest to me, the basketball opportunity to play in the Euroleague along with additional financial security was an opportunity I could not pass up. It was an extremely difficult decision for me because I truly appreciate the opportunity PAOK has given me and I have enjoyed my time here playing for the coaches and with my teammates. Unfortunately, the financial situation of Paok is not great and has been difficult, and I have offered them a way to save money. They still have the option to take this. I wish PAOK all of the best, and want to thank my coaches, teammates, and all of the great fans. I am now focused on the next step in my career and look forward to where it may take me".

However PAOK Thessaloniki is expected to not give the letter of clearence of the player to Zalgiris because they support that the player has not the right to leave the team because they have paid him his wages until January. The club of Thessaloniki needs now to search for a very good point guard, whereas Hatcher and Margaritis who play in the same positions as the ones who left for another teams are still injured and they will not be available for the next game against Peristeri.

Is there a more suitable background for the FUN TO READ post? Probably not… That's why I take this opportunity a few days before we get the Eurobasket f...   [read more]
