Halcon Avenida steals the 5th straight title from Spartak at the EuroLeague Women Final. Both teams produced another great Final Four game, while the Spanish squad triumphed with 68:59. Halcon Avenida took control from the opening quarter and did not allow the defending champions to recover. The Spanish team grabbed 14:8 lead after 10 minutes adding 16-14 in the second frame. Moreover the third quarter as well belonged to the new champions as they had 20-16 in it for Marta Xargay Casademont made it 55:43 and Epiphanny Prince netted two free throws for 55:45. Taj McWilliams-Franklin (189-F/C-70, agency: Josep and Nicolas, college: St.Edward's) reduced to 55:47 but DeSouza and Silvia Dominguez (166-G-87) made it 57:48 from the free throw line. Taj McWilliams-Franklin reduced again to 58:52 and then for 60:54. Sancho Lyttle (193-C-83, college: Houston) and De Mondt were perfect from the line for 64:57 with 1 minute remaining. Silvia Dominguez increased to 66:57 and again Taj McWilliams-Franklin brought Sparatk back to 7 points. De Mondt made another two free throws for 68:59 and it became clear at that time about the winner. That also became the Final score in the game. Silvia Dominguez paced all the winners with 16 points for the amazing win. Alba Torrens netted 13, while Sancho Lyttle collected 12 points and 13 rebounds. Taj McWilliams-Franklin ended up with 17 points and 11 rebounds in the losing effort. Sue Bird (175-G-80, college: Connecticut) scored 16 and Epiphanny Prince added 12 points.

3rd Place: UMMC - Ros Casares 64-52
UMMC stepped on the Euroleague pedestal. They held off Ros Casares in the consolation final in front of the packed DIVS Sport Hall in Ekaterinburg. Sandrine Gruda knocked down 14 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and issued 2 assists to lead UMMC to the win. The lead changed hands for several times throughout close first frame. Edwige Lawson-Wade capped the period with a tip-in as the teams entered the second quarter tied at 12. Edwige Lawson-Wade and Fernandez put Ros Casares in front 16:12 immediately after the break. Ros Casares maintained the lead throughout the second stanza. They arrived at the interval up by three points 27:24. Rebekkah Brunson (191-F/C-81, agency: LBM Management, college: Georgetown) ignited a 6:0 run from the Spanish team as they accumulated a 33:24 advantage early in the third quarter. But Cappie Pondexter (175-G-83, college: Rutgers) triggered a 13:4 rally from the hosts as they spurred in front 42:41 at the end of the period. Deanna Nolan (181-G/F-79, agency: Josep and Nicolas, college: Georgia), Stepanova and Arteshina tipped off the fourth quarter with 7 points in a row to put UMMC up by 8 points. Douglas and Edwige Lawson-Wade cut the deficit at 5-point mark but Sandrina Gruda, Dumerc and Candace Parker answered with 5 straight points and UMMC cleared off for good. Deanna Nolan finished with 11 points for UMMC. Candace Parker produced 10 points and 9 rebounds in the win. Rebekkah Brunson answered with 12 points and 6 boards for Ros Casares. Jana Vesela and Edwige Lawson-Wade accounted for 11 points apiece in the loss.

Rest of the World demolish European side in All Star Game in Gdynia, Poland. More than 4500 spectators saw 116:88 win for the team that was definitely stronger tonight.
Sylvia Fowles (198-C-85, college: LSU) brought the winners their first points, while Sancho Lyttle (193-C-83, college: Houston) replied immediately for Europe. The first quarter was a masterpiece for the Rest of the World that nailed 40 points in the first quarter. Bonner made such a number on the board, while Europe had 24 at that time. Sancho Lyttle brought Europe back to 47:41, but Douglas and Joens gave their team 56:45. Sylvia Fowles closed the half at 61:47 and then another 27-22 in the third period saw 88:69 advantage for the Rest of the World. Quigley nailed three in the last stanza to bring her team three-digit number. Zurowska made six in a row for Europe to reduce to 83:112, while made the final result on the board.
Sylvia Fowles and Angel McCoughtry (185-F-86, college: Louisville) poured in 16 points each, while Seimone Augustus (185-G-84, college: LSU) added 14. Monica Wright (180-F-88, agency: LBM Management, college: Virginia) and Tina Charles (193-C-88, agency: LBM Management, college: Connecticut) delivered 11 points each in a win. Sandrine Gruda (193-C-87), Katerina Elhotova (176-G-89) and Liron Cohen (173-G-82) delivered 14 points each, while Sancho Lyttle collected 12 points and 11 rebounds in defeat.
Sylvia Fowles was named MVP of the All Star Game.

Spartak Moscow Region clinch SuperCup title - Oct 18, 2010

Spartak MR claimed the first trophy of the European season. The Euroleague champions defeated EuroCup holders Athinaikos in Athens to celebrate the second straight SuperCup trophy. Last season Spartak MR crushed Galatasaray in the inaugural SuperCup game. Noelle Quinn (183-G-85, college: UCLA) stepped up with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists to pace the Russian powerhouse to the victory tonight.
Cheered up by the Greek fans Athinaikos started the game confidently. They tried to stay close to Spartak but eventually the Russian team pulled in front. Spartak posted an 18:14 lead ten minutes into the game. Marina Kress (192-C-80) and Nicole Soulis (188-F-85, college: Wisc.-Green Bay) opened the second period with four points in a row for Athinaikos. However Ilona Korstine (182-G-80) scored five points in a row to ignite a 12:0 run that put Spartak in charge 34:21. Halftime scoreboard read 41:26 for the Russian team. Osipova, Noelle Quinn and Ilona Korstine gave the Euroleague champions a 21-point advantage midway through the third term. Aikaterini Sotiriou (187-F-84) helped Athinaikos organize an 8:0 run late in the period as the Greek team got as close 12 points. Athinaikos went on a 7:o rally to narrow the deficit at 6-point mark 55:61 midway through the fourth term. Olga Chatzinikolaou (181-G-81) sparked hope for Athinaikos as they narrowed the deficit at just three points 59:62 with a bit more than two minutes remaining in regulation. But Noelle Quinn and Ilona Korstine came up with timely points for Spartak as they ran away for the victory.
Ilona Korstine provided 15 points for the winners. Anete Jekabsone-Zogota (177-G-83) added 10 points for Spartak MR. Dimitra Kalentzou (174-G-78) and Aikaterini Sotiriou accounted for 12 points each for Athinaikos. Olga Chatzinikolaou contributed 9 points for EuroCup champions.
