*** EUROBASKET.COM MEN AWARDS 2006 ***

Theodoros Papaloukas was the best player in Europe in 2006

Dirk Nowitzki was the best European player in 2006

Ettore Messina - no question: the best coach in Europe in 2006

Traditionally at the end of the year we announce the All-Europe and All-European awards for the past year (2006).
Eurobasket.com has almost 300 correspondents worldwide. This year the votes were done by narrow group of 72 correspondents, who specialize in the basketball coverage from European countries.
The votes were made in two categories: All-Europe and All-Europeans. All-Europe applies to the players, who played in European leagues in last and this season, so it may apply also to non-European players, who played as imports in Europe. All-Europeans category applies only to Europeans, but also these, who played overseas (mostly in NBA). All-Europe awards were dominated by the top players from Euroleague and the Player of the Year Award went to Greek Theodoros Papaloukas (200-G-77) from CSKA Moscow. He was already voted last season by Eurobasket.com as MVP of Euroleague Final Four, the Player of the Year in Russian League as well as All-European Player of the Year for season 2005/06.
All-Europeans awards were dominated by Europeans playing in the NBA, where Papaloukas was the only one, who claimed the place in that exclusive selection.
Here the top spot was taken by German Dirk Nowitzki (211-F-78) from Dallas Mavericks, who outscored Spanish Pau Gasol (214-F/C-80) of Memphis Grizzlies.
The Eurobasket.com All-European Coach of the Year Award goes to Italian Ettore Messina, who lead CSKA Moscow to the championship titles in both Euroleague and Russian League. Messina was already voted by Eurobasket.com as the Coach of the Year in Euroleague and Russian league last season and Italian League (04-05 season).
