Spain earned the U16 European Championship crown. They outscored hosting Lithuania to dethrone those as the best team on the continent. Jaime Fernandez (184-G-93) knocked down 20 points to lift Spain to the success. Alejandro Suarez nailed 11 points for Spain. Daniel Diez contributed 9 points in the winning effort. Mantas Mockevicius responded with 14 points for Lithuania. Tauras Jogela had 12 points and 6 boards in the loss.

3-4 spot
Serbia - Poland 75-69
Serbia celebrated the bronze medals at the U16 European Championship in Kaunas. They overcame Polish counterpart at the consolation final tonight. The result is quite an improvement on the fifth overall position in 2008. Poland finished in the 14th spot last year. Aleksandar Cvetkovic (185-G-93) came up with 20 points and 10 boards for Serbia. Nenad Miljenovic added 18 points, 8 boards and 4 assists in the win. Piotr Niedzwiedzki had 18 points and 11 boards for Poland. Przemyslaw Karnowski tallied 14 points, 6 boards and 4 assists in the loss.

5-6 spot
Russia - Croatia 83-79
Russia earned the fifth overall spot at the U16 European Championship. They topped Croatia to secure the position as well as the ticket to the U17 World Championship next year. Ivan Vadeev (196-F-93) exploded with 24 points to lead the charge. Vladislav Trushkin knocked down 13 points for Russia. Denis Zakharov and Andrey Loginov dropped 11 points each in the win. Matej Buovac nailed 21 points for Croatia. Marko Ramljak added 14 points and 11 boards in the loss.

7-8 spot
Turkey - France 66-79
French U16 team celebrated the victory in their final game at the European Championship in Lithuania. They held off Turkey to clinch the 7th overall spot. William Howard (198-F-93) finished with 16 points to pace France. Jean-Charles Livio added 13 points and 8 boards, while Benjamin John had 12 points, 7 assists and 5 boards in the win. Ozgur Sahin replied with 17 points for Turkey. Berkay Candan netted 11 points in the losing effort.

9-10 spot
Montenegro - Latvia 69-76
Latvian U16 team clinched the ninth position at the European Championship in Lithuania. They toppled Montenegro in the final game tonight. Klavs Strazdins (187-F-93) paced balanced effort with 14 points for the Baltic team. Janis Berzins knocked down 12 points for Latvia. Ceslavs Mateikovics added 11 points in the winning effort. Nikola Ivanovic responded with 27 points for Montenegro. Mihailo Kasalica had 10 points in defeat.

11-12 spot
Germany - Italy 55-53
German U16 team celebrated a tough narrow win over Italy on the last day of the European Championship in Kaunas. The victory means the 11th overall position for Frank Menzs team. Italy occupied the 12th place. Paul Albrecht (205-F-93) delivered 18 points for Germany. Jakob Krumbeck contributed 15 points in the win. Francesco Veccia replied with 15 points for Italy. Diego Monaldi dropped 13 points in the loss.

Russia - Turkey 77-61
Russia claimed a confident win over Turkey at the U16 European Championship in Lithuania today. Sergey Karasev (200-F-93) knocked down 20 points as Russia recovered from upsetting loss to Serbia in the quarterfinal yesterday. Russia stayed in the quest for one available spot at the U17 World Championship in Germany next year. Vladislav Trushkin finished with 17 points for Russia. Andrey Loginov added 12 points and 8 boards in the win. Erbil Eroglu responded with 20 points, 6 assists and 4 boards for Turkey. Burak Yildizli had 19 points in defeat.

France - Croatia 49-79
French U16 National team suffered the second straight loss at the European Championship in Lithuania. After winning five in a row at the start of the tournament France lost the quarterfinal battle yesterday and could not match Croatia in the classification game tonight. Croatia will now fight for the fifth spot against Russia. Matej Buovac (197-G-93) exploded with game-high 23 points for Croatia. Stipe Cubric added 14 points in the win. Jean-Charles Livio responded with 12 points and 6 boards for France. William Howard had 11 points in defeat.

SEMIFINALS
Lithuania - Poland 70-63
Lithuania reached the championship game at home U16 European Championship. The defending champions held off ambitious Poland in the first semifinal of the day. The hosts overcame a slow start to the game to claim a confident victory at the end. Mantas Mockevicius (186-G-93) nailed 17 points, while Martynas Paliukenas knocked down 16 for Lithuania. Paulius Semaska added 13 points. Michal Michalak replied with 16 points for Poland. Piotr Niedzwiedzki had 14 points and 8 boards in the loss.

Serbia - Spain 75-88
Spanish U16 team marched into the Final of the European Championship in Lithuania. They held off Serbia to set up the decisive clash versus Lithuania tomorrow. Serbia will face Poland in the consolation final. Jaime Fernandez (184-G-93) was instrumental in the Spanish win as he knocked down 20 points. Alejandro Suarez produced 18 points for Spain. Mikel Motos had 13 points in the winning effort. Aleksandar Cvetkovic responded with 24 points and 7 rebounds. Nikola Pavlovic had 13 points in the loss.

Lithuania advanced to the semifinal stage of the home U16 European Championship. They defeated France in the quarterfinal today to book the spot at the U17 World Championship to be held next year. France entered the game undefeated but could not tame ambitious hosts. Tauras Jogela (199-F-93) came up with 19 points and 11 boards to pace Lithuania to the victory. Tomas Lekunas nailed 11 points for Lithuania. Rokas Narkevicius and Martynas Paliukenas added 9 points each in the win. Hugo Invernizzi responded with 17 points for France. Charly Maraux had 14 points and 9 rebounds in the loss.

Spain - Turkey 57-41
Spain reached the semifinal stage at the U16 European Championship. They shot down Turkish counterparts in quarterfinal tonight. The victory means Spain will take part at the U17 World Championship next year. Daniel Diez (200-F-93) scored 16 points to pace Spain. Jorge Sanz added 11 points, while Jaime Fernandez dropped 10 in the victory. Berkay Candan replied with 14 points and 6 boards for Turkey. Erbil Eroglu nailed 13 points in the loss.

Russia - Serbia 90-95
Serbian team advanced into the semifinal stage of the U16 European Championship in Lithuania. They held off Russia counterparts in overtime to stay in the title race. Nenad Miljenovic (194-G-93) came up with 21 points, 11 boards, 7 assists and 2 steals to pace the 2007 champions. Aleksandar Cvetkovic had 17 points, 7 boards and 6 assists for Serbia. Luka Mitrovic finished with 11 points in the win. Sergey Karasev knocked down 26 points for Russia. Vladislav Trushkin tallied 18 points, 15 boards and 6 assists in the loss.

Poland - Croatia 51-46
Poland took another scalp at the U16 European championship. They held off Croatia in the quarterfinal today. The win also meant Poland had booked the spot at the U17 World Championship. Michal Michalak (194-G-93) tallied 19 points and 10 boards for the Polish team. Mateusz Ponitka added 12 points and 8 boards in the win. Marko Ramljak responded with 16 points and 8 boards for Croatia. Matej Buovac had 9 points and 8 boards in defeat.

9-12 spot
Latvia - Italy 73-72
Latvia U16 won the first game of the Classification Round for 9th to 12th Places. The Baltic side overcame Italy 73:72 at the U16 European Championship. Ojars Silins (198-F-93) top-scored for the winners with 21 points. Berzins collected 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Strazdins added 10. Veccia ended up with 19 points and Mabilia nailed 13 in defeat.

Montenegro - Germany 54-48
Montenegro will fight for the 9th spot at the U16 European Championship. They held off Germany in a low-scoring affair today. Nikola Ivanovic (187-G-94) produced 11 points and 5 assists to lead Montenegro. Marko Mugosa and Mirko Pejatovic added 10 points each in the win. Paul Albrecht responded with 12 points for Germany. Julius Wolf finished with 10 points in defeat.

Group G
Israel - Greece 85-76
Israeli U16 National Team completed their European Championship campaign with win. They defeated Greece to clinch the top spot in Group G of the tournament and occupied the 13th spot. Greece finished at 2-1 record in the pool to grab the 14th overall position. Ram Elias-Pour (202-C-93) produced 17 points and 11 boards for Israel. Or Solomon added 14 points and 11 boards in the victory. Apollon Deligeorgis knocked down 22 points for Greece. Theodoros Tsiloulis added 11 points in the losing case.

Czech Republic - Ukraine 54-74
Ukraine U16 enjoyed the only victory in Kaunas at the European Championship campaign in Division B. The team remained Czech Republic winless after 74:54 victory. Klym Artamonov (175-G-93) paced all the winners with 18 points for 1-2 record. Korniyets netted 16, while Zhukovskyy scored 14. Kyzlink ended up with 13 points in defeat, while Bejcek posted 12.

Montenegro won over Poland 75:72 in their last game of the Qualifying Round in Group E. The latter finished the group with 2-3 record, while Polish side advanced to the Quarterfinals with 3-2 record. Italy wrapped up their Qualifying Round action with win over Lithuania at the U16 European Championship today. The victory did not help Italy to stay in the title race as they remained at the bottom of the ladder in Group E. The hosts of the tournament meanwhile slipped at 2-3 record in the group. Francesco Veccia (190-G-93) scored 22 points to pace Italy. Diego Monaldi knocked down 19 points, while Alberto Mabilia added 13 points in the win. Vaidas Kariniauskas responded with 20 points for Italy. Tauras Jogela and Mantas Mockevicius nailed 11 points each in defeat.

Russia - Turkey 67-78
Turkey clinched the third spot in Group E of the U16 European Championship. They defeated Russia to advance to the quarterfinal stage of the tournament. Russia on the other hand suffered the initial defeat in Kaunas but it did not prevent Sergey Skorochkin team from claiming the top position in the pool. Russia will face Serbia, while Turkey will take on Spain in the quarterfinal games on Friday. Ozgur Sahin (190-G-93) nailed 21 points for Turkey. Tayfun Erulku and Burak Yildizli added 14 points each in the winning effort. Gudunak responded with 14 points for Russia. Karim Bushenaki accounted for 13 points in the loss.

Group F
Croatia - Serbia 66-75
Serbia celebrated a vital win over Croatia at the U16 European Championship. After Latvia lost their encounter in Group F of the tournament Serbia needed to defeat Croatia to advance to the quarterfinal stage in Lithuania. And so they did as Nemanja Bezbradica (204-F/C-93) stepped up with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Croatia also clinched the spot in the next round despite the loss. Luka Pavlovic knocked down 19 points for Serbia. Nenad Miljenovic added 15 points and 8 boards in the winning effort. Dario Saric responded with 18 points, 11 boards and 5 assists for Croatia. Matej Buovac had 15 points in defeat.

France - Spain 68-64
French U16 team remained undefeated at the European Championship in Lithuania. They topped Spain today to clinch the top spot in Group F. France would now face Serbia, while Spain is scheduled to take on Turkey at the quarterfinal stage of the competition. Jean-Charles Livio (202-F/C-93), Hugo Invernizzi and Yannis Morin paced France with 11 points each. Daniel Diez responded with game-high 19 points for Spain. Ricardo Pampano and Julen Olaizola had 9 points apiece in defeat.

Latvia - Germany 63-69
Latvian U16 team were unable to keep up the winning tempo at the European Championship. After a surprisingly easy rout of Spain they came up short against Germany tonight. Germany celebrated the first win at the Qualifying Round of the tournament improving at 1-4 record in Group F. Latvia slipped at 2-3 record after the loss. Jakob Krumbeck (188-G-93) and Julius Wolf scored 13 points each for Germany. Alexander Blessig added 12 points, 5 boards and 5 assists in the win. Janis Berzins knocked down 16 points for Latvia. Kaspars Vecvagars had 14 points and 7 boards in the losing effort.

Group G
Czech Republic - Israel 57-82
Israel U16 sent Czech Republic U16 to Division B in the second game of the Classification Round. Israel produced 82:57 victory to take 2-0 surviving record at the U16 European Championship. Noam Laish (183-G-93) top-scored for the winners with 19 points to remain with the team in Division A. Cohen O. nailed 13, while Or Solomon 10, Cohen R. 10 and Sergey Zelikman posted 10 apiece. Jan Svandrlik ended up with 14 points and Lubos Lachman scored 12.

Greece - Ukraine 82-67
Greek U16 team remained in Division A of the European Championship. They caught the last train with the win over Ukraine. Greece improved at 2-0 record in Group G and ensured their Division A spot for the next year. Ukraine in the meantime suffered the second consecutive defeat and got relegated into Division B. Apollon Deligeorgis (192-G-93) and Kyprianos Maragkos scored 17 points each to pace Greece. Emmanouil-Antonios Tselentakis added 12 points for the winners. Klym Artamonov responded with 17 points for Ukraine. Danylo Zuikov had 11 points in defeat.

Turkey - Poland 61-70
Poland improved at 3-1 record in Group E of the U16 European Championship in Lithuania. They toppled Turkey to climb on top of the pool for now. Turkey in the meantime suffered the second straight defeat and fell at 2-2 record. Mateusz Ponitka (190-G-93) and Tomasz Gielo had 13 points each for the winners. Erbil Eroglu and Berkay Candan responded with 15 points each for Turkey. Ugur Dokuyan added 10 points in the losing case.

Lithuania - Montenegro 75-65
Lithuanian U16 National team celebrated the second consecutive win at the European Championship. The hosts improved at 2-2 record in Group E. Montenegro on the other hand suffered the second loss in a row and slipped at 1-3 record in the fifth position in the pool. Mantas Mockevicius (186-G-93) and Tauras Jogela provided 18 points each for Lithuania. Rokas Narkevicius had 16 points in the winning case. Nikola Ivanovic nailed 24 points for Montenegro. Marko Mugosa knocked down 18 points in the losing effort.

Russia clinched the top spot in Group E at the U16 European Championship in Lithuania. They overcame Italy to stay perfect at the tournament. Serbia - Germany 94-65
Serbian U16 team topped Germany in the second round of action in Group F. Serbia thus improved at 1-3 record, while Germany fell at 0-4 in the pool. Nemanja Bezbradica (204-F/C-93) tallied 19 points and 12 boards to lead the way. Nenad Miljenovic knocked down 18 points for Serbia. Nikola Pavlovic added 14 points and 6 boards for the winning team. Poland U16 started the Qualifying Round of the European Championship with win. They held off Italy to climb at 2-1 record in Group E. Italy slipped at 0-3 record in the table. Tomasz Gielo knocked down 17 points and collected 7 boards for Poland. Piotr Niedzwiedzki (206-F-93) and Przemyslaw Karnowski scored 11 points each for the winners. Francesco Veccia answered with game-high 23 points for Italy. Stefano Stassi delivered 6 points in the losing effort.

Lithuania - Turkey 66-47

Russia became the only undefeated team in Group F of the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men. The favorites outscored Montenegro 92:56 for 3-0 record. Gleb Goldyrev (200-F-93) was unstoppable with 28 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Afanasyev Roman netted 15 and Karpenko Yury scored 14. Ivanovic Nikola poured in 16 points in the losing case. Latvia - Croatia 56-84
Croatia celebrated a comfortable win over Latvia at the start of the Qualifying Round at the U16 European Championship. Marko Ramljak (200-F-93) scored 18 points to lift Croatia to the win and 2-1 record in Group F. Latvia meanwhile slipped at 1-2 record in the pool. Dario Saric nailed 15 points, grabbed 9 boards and issued 6 assists for Croatia. Matej Buovac had 14 points in the winning charge. Visvaldis Bikse dropped 12 points for Latvia. Kaspars Vecvagars, Strazdins and Berzins added 7 points each in defeat.

Serbia - Spain 90-92
Spain U16 survived a thriller over Serbia U16 on the opening day of the Qualifying Round in Group F. The team produced 92:90 at the Omnitel U16 European Championship. Sanz Jorge paced all the winners with 25 points. Jaime Fernandez (184-G-93) nailed 14 and Diez Daniel scored 13. Pavlovic Nikola finished the night with 23 points in the losing case. This win lifts Spain to a perfect 3-0 record in the group, while Serbia is still at the bottom with a 0-3 record.

Germany - France 42-56
France won the defensive game over Germany in Group F of the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men. The French outfit deserved 56:42 record to remain undefeated. Benjamin John (186-G-93) top-scored for the winners with 12 points and Bangura Soria added 10. Albrecht Paul brought 11 points for the German side. Both teams share a 3-0 record, and while Germany is down to 0-3.

Israel - Ukraine 82-74
Israeli U16 team recorded a vital win at the Classification round of the European Championship in Lithuania. They held off Ukraine to climb at 1-0 record in Group G. Ukraine on the other hand fell at 0-1 and stepped closer to relegation. Ram Elias-Pour tallied 19 points and 17 rebounds to lead Israel. Cohen added 15 points and 7 assists for the winners. Klym Artamonov (175-G-93) replied with 19 points for Ukraine. Olexiy Len top-scored with 20 points in defeat.

Greece - Czech Republic 82-46
Greece gained the first win at the U16 European Championship in Kaunas. They thumped Czech Republic to improve at 1-0 record in Group G. Czech Republic in the meantime moved closer to the verge of being relegated into Division B. Apollon Deligeorgis (188-G-93) scored 17 points for Greece. Kyprianos Maragkos added 14 points, while Theodoros Tsiloulis had 13 points and 10 rebounds in the winning case. Jan Svandrlik replied with 10 points and 9 boards for Czech Republic. Lukas Festr had 8 points in the loss.

Group A
Israel - Turkey 71-93
Turkey rolled past Israel in the third round of action at the U16 European Championship. Berkay Candan (200-F-93) knocked down 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the charge. Burak Yildizli and Tayfun Erulku had 19 points apiece as Turkey claimed the top spot in Group A keeping their record spotless. Israel occupied the fourth position and got eliminated from the title race. Or Solomon knocked down 17 points for Israel in the loss.

Italy - Montenegro 74-80
Montenegro made it to the Qualifying Round after an 80:74 victory over Italy in Group A of the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men. The winners tried really hard to avoid the relegation games, and led throughout most of the game with the needed margin. Marko Mugosa (184-G-93) led the way with 19 points for 1-2 record. Kasalica netted 18, while Gavranic posted 17. Monaldi ended up with 18 points and Veccia scored 15.

Group B
Greece - Lithuania 71-78
Lithuania clinched the spot in the Qualifying Round of the U16 European Championship. They overcame Greece in the third game of the preliminary round to post the first victory at the home tournament. Lithuania thus claimed the third spot in the pool and advanced into the next round. Greece finished winless at the fourth place in the group. Mantas Mockevicius (186-G-93) scored 25 points to lead Lithuania. Tauras Jogela tallied 17 points, 13 boards and 4 assists for the winners. Apollon Deligeorgis knocked down 27 points for Greece. Georgios Papadeas added 12 points in defeat.

Russia - Poland 93-71
Karasev exploded with 33 points for the third straight win with his team at the end of the Preliminary Round. Russia beat Poland 93:71 in the top game of Group B in the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men. Poland is in the Qualifying Round in second place holding a 2-1 record. Gleb Goldyrev (200-F-93) nailed 24 points for the winners, while Trushkin and Loginov added 11 points each. Michalak chipped in 15 points in defeat and Grochowski poured in 10.

Croatia - Germany 77-40
Matej Buovac (197-G-93) exploded with 31 points and 8 boards to lead Croatia past Germany in Group C. The victory allowed Croats to clinch the second spot in the pool, while Germany finished in the third position. Dario Saric and Mihael Maric added 11 point apiece in the win. Tim Unterluggauer responded with 15 points and 9 rebounds for the German team.

Czech Republic - Spain 60-88
Spanish U16 team recorded the third straight win at the European Championship in Lithuania. They held off Czech Republic today to win preliminary Group C. Czech Republic slipped at 0-3 record and got eliminated from the title race. Daniel Diez (200-F-93) notched 21 points and 6 boards for Spain. Julen Olaizola had 12 points, while Jorge Sanz netted 11 points for the winning team. Michal Bernath and Lubos Lachman replied with 13 points each for Czech Republic. Kyzlink netted 9 points in defeat.

Latvia - Serbia 85-75
Latvia finished the Preliminary Round of Group D with 2-1 record after the win over Serbia. The Baltic team overcame the oppoenents 85:75 at the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men. France - Ukraine 81-40
France won Group D of the U16 European Championship in Kaunas to open Day 3 with an easy win. The favorites smashed Ukraine 81:40 and sent them to the Classification Round. Hugo Invernizzi (194-F-93) top-scored for the winners with 18 points as France is 3-0. Jean-Charles nailed 12, while Howard and Morin added 10 each. Volchanov ended up with 15 points in the losing effort, while Artamonov scored 9.

Italy - Israel 90-64
Italy erased the bitter memories of the starting loss to Turkey to stun Israel at the U16 European Championship today. Francesco Veccia (190-G-93) knocked down 26 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead Italy to the comfortable win in Group A. Israel suffered the first defeat at the competition and stayed tied with Italy at 1-1 record in the table. Eric Lombardi notched 19 points for Italy. Diego Monaldi added 15 points in the winning effort. Or Solomon replied with 15 points and 8 boards for Israel. Noam Laish netted 13 points in the loss.

Montenegro - Turkey 64-74
Turkey posted the second consecutive win at the U16 European Championship in Lithuania. They held off Montenegro to climb at 2-0 record on top of Group A. Montenegro slipped at 0-2 record in the ladder. Berkay Candan (200-F-93) knocked down 21 points and collected 7 rebounds for the winners. Burak Yildizli tallied 15 points and 11 rebounds for Turkey. Poland - Lithuania 67-64
Poland crowned the game with 4 points in a row stealing a narrow win from Lithuania in the second round of action at the U16 European Championship. Piotr Niedzwiedzki, Grochowski and Przemyslaw Karnowski (211-C-93) scored 4 consecutive points in the final 32 seconds of the game to escape with a narrow victory over hosing Lithuania. Poland thus climbed at 2-0 record in Group B. The defending champions shocked the home fans losing the second consecutive game at the start of the tournament. Przemyslaw Karnowski knocked down 15 points and collected 9 boards for Poland. Piotr Niedzwiedzki added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Tauras Jogela had 17 points for Lithuania. Rokas Narkevicius answered with 13 points in the loss.

Russia - Greece 76-52
Russia remained undefeated at the U16 European championship in Lithuania. They topped Greece today to improve at 2-0 record in Group B. Sergey Karasev (200-F-93) knocked down 17 points and grabbed 9 boards to lead the charge. Greece could not overcome 23 turnovers and suffered the second straight defeat. Denis Zakharov and Vladislav Trushkin produced 10 points apiece for Russia. Apollon Deligeorgis responded with 12 points for Greece. Georgios Papadeas knocked down 6 points in the loss.

Croatia - Czech Republic 70-68
Croatia got the taste of victory at the U16 European Championship today. They narrowly defeated Czech Republic in Group C to improve at 1-1 record. Czech Republic dropped the second straight game and remained at the bottom of the standings at 0-2. Antonio Boban (198-F-93) finished with 16 points for Croatia. Dario Saric added 14 points and 7 boards in the win. Martin Kriz accounted for 17 points and 9 boards in defeat. Lubos Lachman netted 16 points for Czech Republic.

Germany - Spain 40-79
Spanish U16 team posted a comfortable win over German counterparts in the second round of preliminary action at the European Championship. The victory propelled Spaniards to 2-0 record on top of Group C. Germany on the other hand suffered the first defeat in Kaunas. Alejandro Suarez (204-F-93) produced 16 points to pace Spain. Serbia claimed the opening win at the U16 European championship in Lithuania. They upset Ukraine tonight to improve at 1-1 in Group D. Ukraine in the meantime suffered the second straight loss at the tournament. Nenad Miljenovic (194-G-93) came up with 16 points, 12 boards, 7 assists and 4 steals to pace the 2007 champions. Aleksandar Cvetkovic nailed 14 points for Serbia. Vukasin Vujovic added 12 points in the winning effort. Klym Artamonov answered with game-high 26 points and 9 rebounds for Ukraine. Danylo Zuikov and Mykhaylo Volchanov had 11 points each in defeat.

Israel and Montenegro opened U16 European Championship for Men in Kaunas, Lithuania. Israel U16 lost two first periods, however won the last two and the game as well, 81:66. Sergey Zelikman (192-F-93) top-scored for the winners with 16 points for 1-0 record. Laish nailed 14, while Elias-Pour posted 13. Knezevic collected 19 points and 10 rebounds in defeat, while Kasalica added 15.

Turkey - Italy 69-59
Turkey got off to a big start on opening day of the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men after an 69:59 triumph over Italy in Group A.Berkay Candan (200-F-93) top-scored for the winners with 19 points and 13 rebounds for 1-0 record. Eroglu netted 13, while Yildizli added 12. Monaldi finished the game with 17 points in the losing effort. Lombardi and Veccia notched with 13 points each in defeat.

Group B
Greece - Poland 69-76
Poland opened their Omnitel U16 European Championship Men with a victory over Greece on Thursday. The Polish side produced 76:69 for the first victory. Piotr Niedzwiedzki (206-F-93) paced all the winners with 16 points for the initial victory. Ponitka nailed 15, whilst Karnowski had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Tselentakis ended up with 14 points in the losing case and Deligeorgis added 13.

Lithuania - Russia 70-80
Russia upset the hosts of the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men due to the fabulous trio in the team. Russia beat Lithuania 80:70 with a great second half. Sergey Karasev (200-F-93) and Goldyrev top-scored for the winners with 18 points and 12 rebounds each. Loginov collected 17 points and 15 rebounds for the guests. Jogela finished the game with 24 points for the hosts. Lekunas posted 20, while Narkevicius notched 10.

Group C
Czech Republic - Germany 64-75
Germany won the opener of the U16 European Championship for Men in Kaunas. The German young machine overcame Czech Republic U16 74:64 mostly due to the second period. Tim Unterluggauer (206-C-93) led the way with 16 points for the winners, Krumbeck notched 15 and Tolksdorf scored 13. Bajar and Kriz ended up with 13 points in the losing effort.

Spain - Croatia 66-64
Spain tipped off the 2009 Omnitel U16 European Championship with an overtime win over the Croatia in Group C. Spain celebrated 66:64 after 9-7 in overtime. Daniel Diez (200-F-93) paced all the winners with 11 points and Cerqueira added 10. Ramljak ended up with 25, points in the losing effort while Boban notched 14.

Group D
Latvia - Ukraine 80-60
Kaspars Vecvagars (190-G-93) was too good for Ukraine U16 in Omnitel U16 European Championship Men. The Latvian player was unstoppable with 33 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists as his team overcame the opponents 80:60. Strazdins nailed 19 points for the winners and Krumins collected 9 points and 11 boards. Artamonov finished the game with 13 points in the losing case. Korniyets chipped in 12 and Volchanov added 10.

Serbia - France 74-87
Serbia expected a better start in their Omnitel U16 European Championship Men opener against France, however the team did not expect a perfect game from Hugo Invernizzi (194-F-93) . He exploded with 34 points and 9 rebounds and became the top-scorer of Day 1 in the tournament. France grabbed 87:74 victory in Group D in Kaunas. Adjagba nailed 14 points for the winners and Howard scored 13. Miljenovic delivered 20 points in defeat, Pavlovic added 13 and Cvetkovic chipped in 12.
