Denmark - Bulgaria 63-81
Bulgaria U16 triumph in Division B of the U16 European Championship. In the Final game the new Champions overcame Denmark 81:63. Denmark and Bulgaria head to the Division A U16 European Championship after both enjoyed a one-sided win in the Semi-Finals of the Division B Championship in Portugal. They will take the place of Ukraine and the Czech Republic who finished last in the Division A games in Kaunas. Denmark looked better in the opening tip and led in the majority of the first period. Pavlin Ivanov (194-G-93, agency: Beo Basket) however gave Bulgaria the lead at the end of the quarter as both teams finished the frame at 21:20. In the second period there was only one team dominating the court, Bulgaria. They created a massive 28-14 in the frame for the bigger lead. Pavlin Ivanov again was too good for the opponents as he closed the half at 49:34. The intrigue was not over in the game and Denmark remained alive in the third quarter. Larsen reduced to 58:50, while Oernbo scored for 63:55. Benzon nailed for 67:61, but then Bulgaria produced a 12-0 run to seal the winning outcome. Pavlin Ivanov scored last four points in the game for the final victory. Pavlin Ivanov top-scored again for the winners with 29 points. Tenchev collected 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Simeonov added 14. Rungby and Carlsen finished the night with 15 points in defeat, whilst Benzon chipped in 11.

5th place
Finland - Sweden 59-81
Sweden wins the Scandinavian battle at the European Championship Division B and finished on the 5th place. The Swedish juniors overcame Finland 81:59 to take the higher spot. William Magarity (205-F-93) paced all the winners with 18 points. Eriksson poured in 16, while Person added 15. Caven delivered 19 points in the losing case and Seppala notched 10.

7th place
Hungary - Romania 55-50
Hungary clinched the 7th position at the European Championship Division B. In the last game the team outscored Romania 55:50 for the higher position. Martin Somenek (197-F-93) top-scored for the winners with 12 points and Kovacs netted 9. Baczo ended up with 14 points in the losing effort and Olah scored 12.

9th place
Georgia - Belgium 52-65
Belgium is 9th at the European Championships U16 in Division B after the win over Georgia. The winners tasted 65:52 victory to take the higher position. Wim Vandenweyer (180-G-93) top-scored for the winners with 17 points. Ojomoh Obasohan netted 15 and Bodson Axel added 11. Burjanadze Beka delivered 18 points in the losing case and Ramishvili Nika notched 12.

11th place
Slovakia - Belarus 65-70
Belarus clinched the 11th spot at the European Championships U16 in Division B. The team outscored Slovakia 70:65 in the game for the 11th position. Papruha Anton top-scored for the winners with 16 points, while Viaroukin Tsimafei netted 14. Aliaksandr Minayeu (190-G-93) nailed 13 and Yalovik Konstantin poured in 7 points. Bojanovsky Boris finished the game with 26 points in defeat, while Zahon Lubomir delivered 18 points. Flaska David shined with 11 points, 16 boards and 7 assists in the losing effort.

13th place
Portugal - Ireland 95-66
Portugal is 13th team at home of the European Championships U16. In the game for that place the hosts outscored Ireland 95:66. Jonah Callenbach (192-F-93) paced all the winners with 23 points, while Sota Hugo Correia collected massive 18 points and 20 boards. Silva Julio nailed 11 points, whilst Da Silva Ruben and Cardoso added 10 apiece. Lynch Neil posted 13 points in defeat and O'Sullivan Ronan notched 12.

Group 15th place
Holland - Luxembourg 103-55
Holland destroyed Luxembourg for the 15th place at the European Championships U16 in Division B. The Dutch side smashed the opponents 103:55 to take the higher position. Van Der Ark Yannick and Shane Hammink (196-F-94) combined 49 points for the winners. Groenewoud Davey nailed 15 and Candiff Paul added 10 points. Laurent Alex delivered 22 points and 13 rebounds in the losing effort.

Group I
Switzerland - Austria 59-62
Austria overcame Switzerland at the last game of the European Championship in Division B. The 62:59 victory however was not enough to take over them. Two days ago Switzerland held off Austria in the classification round for the 17th-18th place at the European Championship in Division B. Oliver Sturm (185-G-93) top-scored for the winners with 19 points and Gvozden added 9. Harlicaj ended up with 16 points in the losing effort. Gaillard and Basso followed him with 10 points apiece.

Semifinals
Slovenia - Bulgaria 63-87
Pavlin Ivanov (194-G-93, agency: Beo Basket) led Bulgaria U16 into the Final of the U16 European Championship Men in Division B. His team overcame Slovenia 87:63 to reach the Final game of the tournament in Portugal. Pavlin Ivanov top-scored for the winners with 30 points, while Tenchev collected 17 points and 11 rebounds and Karamfilov added 11. Gominsek delivered 13 points in defeat as Slovenia will play for the third place. Rojc netted 11 and Rupnik added 10.

Denmark - United Kingdom 82-56
Denmark entered the Final of the U16 European Championship Men in Portugal. The Scandinavian team overcame England 82:56 in the Semifinal clash. Esben Reinholt (193-G-93) top-scored for the winners with 23 points. Benzon netted 12, while Rungby collected 12 points and 16 rebounds. Van Oostrum delivered 18 points in defeat and Esprit added 12.

13-16 spot
Luxembourg - Ireland 59-87
Ireland U16 edged Luxembourg U16 at the Classification Round for 13th to 16th Places. The winners produced 87:56 victory at the U16 European Championship Men in Division B. O'Sullivan was unstoppable for the winners with 33 points and 9 rebounds. Ryan Downey (175-G-94) collected 14 points and 10 boards, while Smith and O'Mahony notched 7 apiece. Tim Steffen and Arendt top-scored with 14 points each in defeat. Bob Melcher followed them with 9 points in a loss.

5-8 spot
Finland - Hungary 65-64
Finland U16 won the first game of the Classification Round for 5th to 8th Places as they rolled over Hungary U16 in Division B. The Scandinavian team produced 65:64 at the U16 European Championship Men in Portugal. Kalle Naapi (187-G-93) top-scored for the winners with 14 points as they will play for the 5th place tomorrow. Caven netted 12, while Seppala posted 10. Dobos collected 16 points and 12 boards in the losing effort. Jakab and Somenek followed him with 12 points each as Hungary will play for the 7th place.

Sweden - Romania 85-70
Sweden U16 won the Classification Round for 5th to 8th Places game as they beat Romania U16 in Division B. The Scandinavian team produced 85:70 at the U16 European Championship Men in Portugal. Eriksson paced all the winners with 25 points as his team will play for the 5th place. Person nailed 18, whilst William Magarity (205-F-93) netted 10. Baczo ended up with 18 points in the losing case as Romania will play for the 7th spot. Filip delivered 13, whilst Cristiean chipped in 12.

9-12 spot
Belarus - Belgium 56-73
Belgium U16 stun Belarus U16 at the Classification Round for 9th to 12th Places. The Belgian side delivered 64:55 victory at the U16 European Championship Men in Portugal. Wim Vandenweyer (180-G-93) paced all the winners with 17 points as his team will play for the 9th spot. Ojomoh nailed 13, while Vander Poorten added 11. Minayeu scored 14 in defeat and Papruha chipped in 12.

Georgia - Slovakia 64-55
Georgia U16 outscored Slovak Republic U16 at the Classification Round for 9th to 12th Places. The team needed 14-7 in the last period for 64:55 victory at the U16 European Championship Men in Portugal. Valeri Kvantaliani (198-F-94) top-scored for the winners with 17 points. Lolishvili nailed 11, while Ramishvili scored 10. Nemcok finished the night with 14 points in the losing case and Flaska posted 11.

Bulgaria - Denmark 64-75
Denmark toppled Bulgaria to keep their record spotless at the U16 European Championship. Frederik Rungby (196-F-93) knocked down 16 points to lead Denmark to 3-0 record in Group E. Bulgaria slipped at 2-1 record in defeat. Esben Reinholt notched 15 points for the winners. Jon Carlsen added 10 points in the victory. Tencho Tenchev responded with 19 points for Bulgaria. Pavlin Ivanov finished with 17 points in defeat.

Romania - Finland 76-78
Finnish U16 team claimed the third spot in Group E of the Qualifying Round of the European Championship in Division B. They defeated Romania today improve at 1-2 record, while Romania slipped at 0-3 in the pool. Joonas Lehtoranta (185-G-94), Daniel Dolenc and Mikko Jamsa scored 11 points each for Finland. Samuli Oja had 10 points in the win. Horia Cristiean responded with 20 points for Romania. Gabor Baczo knocked down 15 points in defeat.

Group F
Hungary - Sweden 80-86
Swedish U16 National team celebrated a narrow victory over their Hungarian counterparts at the European Championship in Division B. Sweden thus claimed the third spot in Group F. They set up the clash against Romania in the classification games for the 5th-8th overall spot. Hungary will face Finland next. Marcus Eriksson (191-G-93) finished with 24 points for Sweden. William Magarity added 15 points, while Tobias Borg had 14 points in the win. Peter Jakab responded with 21 points for Hungary. Martin Somenek delivered 15 points and 9 boards in the losing case.

Group G
Portugal - Georgia 64-85
Georgian U16 team celebrated the initial win at the classification round of the European Championship in Division B. They outscored hosting Portugal to improve at 2-1 record in Group G. Portugal in the meantime slipped at 2-1 record in the pool. Beka Burjanadze (200-C-94) tallied 25 points and 11 boards for Georgia. Levan Lolishvili netted 16 points, while Gela Gulmagarashvili added 14 points in the win. Jonah Callenbach replied with 19 points for Portugal. Miguel Soares had 14 points and 9 boards in defeat.

Belgium - Ireland 77-48
Belgian U16 team posted the second straight win at the European Championship in Division B. They overcame Ireland to clinch the second spot in Group G of the classification round for the 9th-16th spot. Ireland remained in the fourth position falling at 0-3 record. Obasohan Ojomoh (183-F-93) nailed 14 points, grabbed 6 boards and distributed 5 assists for Belgium. Bert Declercq added 13 points for the winners. David O'Leary responded with 13 points for Ireland. Nathaniel Smith had 12 points in the loss. Belgium will now play for the 9th-12th spot, while Ireland will try to gain the 13th position in the classification games.

Group H
Holland - Luxembourg 72-75
Luxembourg held off Netherlands at the U16 European Championship in Division B. The victory propelled Kresimir Basic's team to 2-1 record in Group H. Luxembourg occupied the third spot and would fight against Ireland for the 13th-16th position, Netherlands is scheduled to face Portugal in their next game. Jo Hoeser (189-F-94) finished with 26 points to pace Luxembourg. Bob Melcher added 23 points and 9 rebounds in the victory. Paul Candiff responded with 19 points for Netherlands. Shane Hammink tallied 11 points, 7 boards and 5 assists in the loss.

Slovakia - Belarus 64-75
Belarus edged Slovak Republic at the U16 European Championship in Portugal, Group H. Both teams are tied at 2-1 record after 75:64 for Belarus. Anton Papruha (188-G-93) top-scored for the winners with 18 points. Safaniuk nailed 14, while Semianiuk added 12. Bojanovsky collected 20 points and 18 rebounds, while Flaska posted 13.

Group I
Switzerland - Austria 68-64
Switzerland held off Austria in the classification round for the 17th-18th place at the European Championship in Division B tonight. Vincent Gaillard (200-F-93) scored 15 points to pace Switzerland. The teams are scheduled to meet again on Sunday. Clint N'Dumba-Capela produced 14 points and 13 boards for the Swiss team. Ludovico Basso had 11 points in the win. Oliver Sturm and Jozo Rados replied with 15 points each for Austria. Ngoy nailed 10 points in the loss.


Div. B Day: 6 (Qualifying Round) - Aug. 12, 2009

Denmark - Romania 63-60
Denmark beat Romania in the start of the Qualifying Round of the U16 European Championship in Portugal. The Scandinavian team escaped 63:60 victory for the prefect record. Esben Reinholt (193-G-93) paced all the winners with 19 points and Benzon nailed 12. Baczo delivered 19 points in the losing effort and Olah collected 18 points and 12 caroms.

Finland - Bulgaria 55-73
Bulgaria claimed a comfortable win over Finland at the start of the Qualifying Round of the U16 European Championship in Division B. Bulgaria thus improved at 2-0 record in Group E. Finland slipped at 0-2 in the pool. Pavlin Ivanov (194-G-93, agency: Beo Basket) exploded with 27 points to lead Bulgaria. Tencho Tenchev added 21 points, while Aleks Simeonov had 10 points and 13 boards in the victory. Mikko Jamsa responded with 14 points for Finland. Kalle Naapi finished with 10 points in the losing effort.

Group F
Sweden - United Kingdom 80-81
The United Kingdom team overcame Sweden 81:80 in a thriller at the European Championships U16 in Group F. Van Oostrum Devon paced all the winners with 26 points and 10 boards, whilst Simeon Esprit (192-G-93) notched 18. Person Jonathan delivered 34 points in the losing effort.

Slovenia - Hungary 91-69
Slovenia improved to 2-0 record at the European Championships U16, Group F after the win over Hungary 91:69. Luka Rupnik (182-G-93) paced all the winners with 14 points, while Rojc Matej and Gominsek Rok netted 13 each. Dobos Laszlo posted 13 points for Hungary.

Ireland - Portugal 69-81
Portugal opened the classification round of the U16 European Championship in Division B with victory. The hosts overcame Ireland to jump at 2-0 record in Group G. Ireland fell at 0-2 after the loss. Ruben Da Silva and Miguel Cardoso (182-G-93) provided 17 points apiece for Portugal. Miguel Soares added 15 points, 7 boards and 4 assists in the win. Sean McCarthy responded with 15 points and 9 boards for Ireland. Luke OMahony and Nathaniel Smith had 12 points each in defeat.

Georgia - Belgium 66-70
Belgian U16 team posted a narrow win over Georgia at the U16 European Championship in Division B. The teams opened the action in Group G and Belgium came out winners. Wim Vandenweyer and Adrian Vander Poorten scored 19 points each to lead Belgium. Obasohan Ojomoh (183-F-93) had 15 points, 10 boards and 6 steals in the win. Beka Burjanadze and Levan Lolishvili nailed 16 points each for Georgia. Nika Ramishvili added 13 points in the loss.

Luxembourg - Slovakia 66-84
Slovakia won the first game of the Classification Round for 9th to 16th Place as they rolled over Luxembourg 84:66. Lubomir Zahon (188-G-93) led the way with 27 points and Bojanovsky Boris nailed 19. Laurent Alex collected 30 points and 14 boards in the losing case.

Belarus - Holland 72-69
Belarus outscored Holland 72:69 at the Classification Round for 9th to 16th Place at the European Championships U16. Tsimafei Viaroukin (187-G-93) top-scored for the winners with 18 points and Papruha Anton nailed 15. Van Tongeren Matthew finished the game with 13 points for the Dutch team.

Denmark - Ireland 71-59
Denmark won Group A of the Preliminary Round at the Division B U16 European Championship. The favorites left Ireland winless after 71:56 victory. Esben Reinholt (193-G-93) top-scored for the winners with 13 points and Christian Benzon nailed 12. Ryan Downey ended up with 15 points and O'Sullivan added 11.

Georgia - Finland 32-66
The last period became a nightmare for Georgia in the game versus Finland. The Scandinavian team improved to 2-1 record after 66:32 in the last game of the Preliminary Round when they produced 27-2 in the last frame. Joonas Lehtoranta (185-G-94) and Joonas Caven top-scored for the winners with 12 points apiece. Kalle Naapi followed them with 11 points for the second victory. Irakli Mikeladze finished the night with 8 points in defeat, while Beka Gudushauri netted 7.

Group B
Portugal - Belgium 56-51
Portugal improved to 2-2 at the Group B of the Preliminary Round at the Division B U16 European Championship. Augusto Araujo Almeid's team overcame Belgium 56:51 as the latter is 1-3. Hugo Correia Sota (199-F-93) paced all the winners with 16 points, while Jonah Callenbach and Miguel Cardoso added 14 each. Obasohan Ojomoh delivered 15 points in defeat. Wim Vandenweyer chipped in 14 points and Vander Poorten scored 13.

Romania - Switzerland 71-78
Switzerland tasted the initial victory in Group B of the Preliminary Round at the Division B U16 European Championship. The team finished the group with 1-3 record after the victory over Romania 78:71. Clint N'Dumba-Capela (202-F-94) led the way with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Ludovico Basso chipped in 16 points and Vincent Gaillard added 15. Gabor Baczo finished the night with 13 points as Romania is 2-2. Luxembourg - Belarus 76-75
Luxembourg beat Belarus in the last game of Group C of the Preliminary Round at the Division B U16 European Championship. The team of Kresimir Basic celebrated the initial victory over Belarus, 76:75. Alex Laurent (190-F-93) was unstoppable with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Jo Hoeser added 25 and Louis Arendt brought 12. Anton Papruha posted 22 points in the losing effort and Tsimafei Viaroukin nailed 12.

Slovenia - Austria 80-55
Slovenia won Group C of the Preliminary Round at the Division B U16 European Championship. The favorites outscored Austria 80:55 for 4-0 perfect record. Rok Jagodic (201-F-93) paced all the winners with 12 points to remain his team undefeated. Ziga Dimec nailed 11, while Jan Osolnik added 10. Oliver Sturm notched 13 in defeat, while Markus Strohmayer poured in 10.

Holland - United Kingdom 69-88
English U16 team remained perfect at the European Championship in Division B. They defeated Netherlands for the third straight success in Portugal. England improved at 3-0 record, while Netherlands slipped at 0-3 record in Group D. Devon Van Oostrum (188-G-93) was once again impressive for England as he tallied 27 points, 9 boards and 6 steals. John Stewart produced 24 points and 9 boards in the victory. Joseph Hart added 14 points for England. Yannick Van Der Ark knocked down 15 points for Netherlands. Joshua De Graaf had 13 points in the losing effort.

Hungary - Slovakia 87-76
Hungary celebrated the second win at the U16 European Championship in Division B. They held off Slovakian counterparts to improve at 2-1 record in Group D. Slovakia in the meantime fell at 1-2 record in the third spot in the pool. Hungary thus made it to the Qualifying Round of the tournament. Martin Somenek (197-F-93) knocked down 20 points, while Laszlo Dobos added 20 points and 11 boards for Hungary. Laszlo Polyak provided 12 points in the win. David Flaska answered with game-high 26 points for Slovakia. Boris Bojanovsky secured 13 points and 15 boards in defeat.

Group A
Finland - Ireland 86-69
Finnish U16 team posted the first win at the European Championship in Division B. They toppled Ireland in Group A to improve at 1-1 record. The Irish team slipped at 0-2 record after the loss. Kalle Naapi (187-G-93) knocked down 22 points to pace Finland. Joonas Lehtoranta produced 12 points for Finland. Johnny Laakkonen had 10 points in the winning charge. Neil Lynch responded with 23 points for Ireland. Ryan Downey netted 9 points in defeat.

Group B
Switzerland - Bulgaria 68-87
Bulgarian U16 team celebrated the fourth straight win at the European Championship in Division B. They held off Switzerland to remain on top of Group B at 4-0 record. The Swiss team in the meantime slipped at 0-3 record on the opposite side of the standings. Pavlin Ivanov (194-G-93, agency: Beo Basket) exploded with 26 points and 8 rebounds for Bulgaria. Deyan Karamfilov added 14 points, while Aleks Simeonov had 12 points in the win. Clint N'Dumba-Capela responded with 18 points and 14 caroms for Switzerland. Jeremy Landenbergue had 14 points in the loss.

Belgium - Romania 57-61
Romania came from behind in the fourth frame to knock down Belgium at the U16 European Championship in Division B. The victory lifted Romania at 2-1 record in preliminary Group B. Belgium suffered the second loss and fell at 1-2. Gabor Baczo (191-G-93) scored 13 points to pace the winners. Horia Cristiean and Alexandru Olah added 12 points each for Romania. Audry Kiraranganya responded with 22 points for Belgium. Wim Vandenweyer scored 18 points in the losing effort.

Group C
Belarus - Sweden 69-80
Swedish U16 team posted a comfortable win over Belarus at the European Championship in Division B. Marcus Eriksson (191-G-93) knocked down 21 points to propel the Scandinavian team to the victory. They improved at 3-1 record, while Belarus slipped at 1-2 in Group C. Tobias Borg knocked down 19 points. Jonathan Person added 18 points for the winners. Anton Papruha responded with 22 points for Belarus. Tsimafei Viaroukin had 12 points in defeat.

Austria - Luxembourg 83-78
Austria defeated Luxembourg to improve at 1-2 record in Group C of the U16 European Championship in Division B. Luxembourg remained winless at 0-3. Oliver Sturm (185-G-93) was instrumental in the victory with game-high 30 points. Albert Ngoy delivered 13 points for Austria. Markus Strohmayer and Jozo Rados added 11 points each in the win. Louis Arendt responded with 27 points for Luxembourg. Jo Hoeser had 17 points and 10 boards in defeat.

Denmark - Georgia 76-61
Danish U16 team celebrated the second consecutive victory at the European Championship in Division B. They toppled Georgian counterparts to top Group A. Georgia slipped at 1-1 record. Esben Reinholt tallied 23 points and 12 boards.Christian Benzon (186-G-93) knocked down 13 points for the winners. Nicholas Tullin added 10 points, 6 boards and 4 assists. Nika Ramishvili, Beka Burjanadze and Giorgi Gvaladze had 16 points each for Georgia. Denmark outrebounded their opponents 49:28 and forced Georgia into 20 turnovers. The Scandinavian team sank 49% from the field, while Georgia responded with only 35% accuracy.

Group B
Romania - Portugal 67-58
Romania posted the first win at the U16 European championship in Division B. They toppled Portugal handing the hosts the second loss at the tournament. Romania climbed at 1-1 record, while Portugal slipped at 1-2 in Group B. Horia Cristiean (183-G-93) netted 18 points to pace Romania. Gabor Baczo added 16 points, while Ioan Filip had 14 points and 12 boards in the win. Filipe Teixeira replied with 13 points and 15 boards for Portugal. Jonah Callenbach contributed 12 points in defeat.

Bulgaria - Belgium 68-54
Bulgaria celebrated the third consecutive win at the U16 European Championship in Division B. They outscored Belgium to remain on top of Group B. Tencho Tenchev (202-F-93) nailed 23 points and collected 7 rebounds to lead the way for Bulgaria. Pavlin Ivanov knocked down 15 points for Bulgaria. Aleks Simeonov had 11 points and 7 boards in the winning case. Wim Vandenweyer responded with 12 points for Belgium. Rienert Torreele chipped in 9 points in defeat. The teams were well matched on the boards 35:35 but Bulgaria sank 46% from the field. Belgium managed just 34% of field goals in defeat.

Group C
Luxembourg - Slovenia 91-51
Slovenia rallied to a solid win over Luxembourg at the U16 European Championship in Division B. The victory propelled Kresimir Basic team to 3-0 record on top of Group C. Luxembourg on the other hand suffered the second straight defeat and remained at the bottom of the ladder. Jan Osolnik (200-F-93) notched 16 points and 7 boards for Slovenia. Matej Rojc added 13 points, while Tim Skerbec and Luka Rupnik had 11 points each in the win. Alex Laurent responded with 17 points for Luxembourg. Jo Hoeser had 16 points in the loss.

Sweden - Austria 80-41
Swedish U16 team celebrated the second win at the European Championship in Division B. They toppled Austria in Group C. Sweden improved at 2-1 record, while Austria fell at 0-2. Marcus Eriksson (191-G-93) knocked down 23 points for Sweden. William Magarity added 20 points and 8 boards for the winners. Albert Ngoy came up with 9 points for Austria. Markus Trimmel had 7 points in the loss.

Group D
Slovakia - United Kingdom 62-96
England won the second straight game at U16 Men's Championship B Division to clinch the quarter-final place in Portugal. The British side outscored Slovak Republic 96:62 on Saturday. Joseph Hart (194-F-93) top-scored for the winners with 22 points and Van Oostrum shined with 20 points and 12 steals. Nemcok finished the game with 9 points, while Novysedlak, Zahon and Flaska scored 8 each.

Hungary - Holland 87-77
Hungary celebrated the first victory at the U16 European Championship Men Division B in Group D. The team overcame Netherlands 87:77 for 1-1 record in the group. Peter Jakab (187-G-93) led the way with 22 points and Misek netted 16. Polyak and Dobos followed them with 15 points in a win. Candiff ended up with 17 points in the losing effort, whilst De Graaf and Van Der Ark added 12 each.

Group A
Finland - Denmark 77-84
Denmark and Finland started their U16 European campaign one day later in the tournament due to the less number of teams in Group A. Denmark won 84:77 in the opener to join Georgia on top. Frederik Rungby (196-F-93) led the way with 18 points for the winners and Larsen collected 16 points and 13 rebounds. Benzon and Reinholt followed them with 9 points apiece. Dolenc ended up with 15 points in the losing effort. Naapi notched 14, whilst Oja added 12.

Group B
Belgium - Switzerland 82-74
Belgium won their opener of the U16 European Championship in Portugal. The team overcame Switzerland 82:74 and sent them to 0-2 record. Wim Vandenweyer (180-G-93) top-scored for the winners with 21 points. Ojomoh nailed 19, while Kiraranganya netted 13. Gaillard ended up with 18 points in the losing effort, Landenbergue scored 16 and Harlicaj posted 14.

Portugal - Bulgaria 72-91
Bulgaria became the leader of Group B of the U16 European Championship in Portugal. The team upset the hosts of the tournament 91:72 for the second straight win. Deyan Karamfilov (175-G-94) and Ivanov paced all the winners with 19 points. Tenchev followed them with 16 points to remain undefeated. Callenbach chipped in 22 points in defeat and Soares posted 12 as Portugal is 1-1.

Group C
Austria - Belarus 52-61
Belarus tied their record at 1-1 at the U16 European Championship in Portugal. The team overcame Austria 61:52 in Group C on Friday. Anton Papruha (188-G-93) top-scored fr the winners with 15 points and Pronin added 12. Sturm notched 11 points in the losing effort, while Ljesevic, Ngoy and Bas brought their team 8 points each.

Slovenia - Sweden 72-70
Slovenia became the only undefeated team in Group C as they cruised past Sweden on Friday. Slovenia produced 72:70 to take 2-0 record on top. Matej Rojc (193-G-93) paced all the winners with 24 points and Rupnik added 17. Person finished the game with 30 points in the losing effort and Magarity posted 17.

Group A
Ireland - Georgia 78-86
Georgia posted the first win at the U16 European Championship in Division B. They prevailed against Irish opponents in Group A opener. Beka Burjanadze (200-C-94) exploded with 22 points, 13 boards and 5 assists to pace Georgia. Ramishvili knocked down 14 points for Georgia. Irakli Mikeladze netted 9 points in defeat. Adrian O'Sullivan answered with game-high 29 points for Ireland. David O'Leary canned 14 points in the loss. Ireland outrebounded Georgia 40:38 but committed 20 turnovers. Georgia sank 48% from the field, while limiting their opponents to just 38%.

Group B
Bulgaria - Romania 87-64
Bulgaria opened their U16 European Championship in Division B campaign with a cruising win over Romania. Pavlin Ivanov (194-G-93, agency: Beo Basket) knocked down 24 points, pulled down 8 rebounds and issued 6 assists to lead Bulgaria to the first win in Portugal. Tencho Tenchev knocked down 21 points for Bulgaria. Aleks Simeonov added 14 points and 7 boards in the win. Vlad Popovici had 18 points and 13 boards for Romania. Alexandru Olah had 14 points and 8 boards in defeat. Bulgaria sank solid 48% from the field, while limiting Romania to just 43%. Romania suffered 20 turnovers that proved too many to overcome.

Switzerland - Portugal 69-90
Portuguese U16 team posted a confident win over Switzerland at the start of the European Championship in Division B. The hosts used the dominant second half of the encounter to race to the victory and improved at 1-0 record in Group B. Hugo Correia Sota (199-F-93) had 18 points to pace the charge. Joao Alvaro and Miguel Soares knocked down 16 points each for Portugal. Jonah Callenbach had 15 points in the winning case. Ludovico Basso responded with 15 points for Switzerland. Marko Mladjan netted 14 points in the loss.

Group C
Sweden - Luxembourg 108-54
Sweden opened the Omnitel U16 European Championship with an easy 108:54 victory over Luxembourg in the opening game of Group C. The Scandinavian team played much better for the whole game and rightfully became the winner. William Magarity (205-F-93) top-scored for the winners with 28 points. Eriksson collected 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Borg added 14. Hoeser chipped in 15 points in the losing effort. Laurent netted 14 and Arendt delivered 12.

Belarus - Slovenia 63-100
Slovenia reached three digits in the game over Belarus at the Omnitel U16 European Championship. The team smashed the opponents 100:63 in Group C opener. Ziga Dimec (203-C/F-93) nailed 15 points for the winners for the first victory. Gominsek and Tomic followed him with 14 points each. Semianiuk chipped in 16 points in the losing effort, while Papruha added 9.

Group D
Holland - Slovakia 70-80
Slovakian U16 team posted the first win at the European Championship in Division B. They overcame Netherlands in the opening game in Group D yesterday. Jan Brutovsky (185-G-93) knocked down 20 points to lead Slovakia to the win. Boris Bojanovsky scored 19 points and collected 12 boards for Slovakia. Vladimir Nemcok and Lubomir Zahon had 11 points in the winning case. Matthew Van Tongeren responded with 14 points and 6 boards for Netherlands. Paul Candiff, Bart Stolk and Joshua De Graaf had 11 points each in defeat.

United Kingdom - Hungary 80-72
English U16 team opened their European Championship in Division B quest with victory. They held off Hungary in Group D action. Devon Van Oostrum (188-G-93) tallied 22 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds and 6 steals to lead the charge for the team. John Gould knocked down 15 points for England. Joseph Hart added 14 points in the victory. Laszlo Dobos responded with 22 points and 13 boards for Hungary. Adam Kovacs and Martin Somenek netted 10 points each in the loss.
