B. The winners beat Ireland 69:57 in the last game of the tournament. England
started with 17:5 in the opening quarter and that was enough to control the rest
of the game. Gaskin scored for 32:20 as the teams entered the second half and
then England led to the winning finish.
Claire Harper (185-F-94) top-scored for the winners with 17 points, while
Gaskin collected 15 points and 12 rebounds. Scannell ended up with 14 points in

B. The team overcame the hosts of the tournament 78:66 in the last game of their
campaign. Refael Kalim and Aviv Casspi paced all the winners with 16 points
apiece. Koch followed them with 11 points for the higher spot. Nele Laurimaa
finished the night with 19 points for Estonia that finished on the 14th spot.

Tallinn saw the last game between Ukraine and Luxembourg as the team of Feodora
Kochergina celebrated 51:49 victory. Oleksandra Chek top-scored for the winners
with 16 points for the higher place.

to run away with a hard-fought victory.

Austria to the win out of a 3-point deficit. Bozovic ensured a 49:44 lead for

straight game and would try to avoid relegation in classification games.
Alexandra Dumitrache (172-G-94) came up for Romania with 21 points in the

Division B. The team improved to 2-0 record after the victory over Ireland

defeat and Newell scored 11.

Estonia - Romania

Estonia U16 opened their European Championship today and beat Romania 69:65. For
Romania it was the second game and the first loss as last night the team
overcame Israel.
Birgit Piibur (160-G-94) made the last jump shot in the fourth period to
send the teams to the extra time with the game tied at 59:59. Laurimaa opened
overtime for 61:59, while Baluta replied for 61:61.
Birgit Piibur gave the Baltic side 63:61 and he added another points from
the free throw. Kullamaa gave more confidence at 67:61 with less than two
minutes in the game. Ardelean reduced to 67:63 and he also made a free throw for
67:64. Baluta brought 67:65 but Saat gave Estonia the victory.
Israel - Latvia

Latvia posted the second consecutive win at the U16 European Championship in
Division B. They toppled Israel in preliminary Group B to top the pool at 2-0
record. Israel slipped at 0-2 record after the loss.
Sabine Dukate (176-F-93) produced 16 points to lead Latvia. Daiga Kuzmane
added 14 points and 13 boards, while Guna Lagzdina had 13 points and 18 boards
in the winning effort. Keren Mozes replied with 13 points and 7 boards for

Denmark opened their U16 European Championship campaign with victory. They
bruised Bosnia and Herzegovina in Group C today. Bosnia and Herzegovina slipped

Division B. They overcame Bulgaria in a low-scoring battle in Tallinn today to
improve at 2-0 record on top of Group C. Rebeka Abramovic knocked down 13 points
to lead Slovenia.
Tina Kercmar (178-F-94) added 8 points and 8 steals in the victory. Hristina
Tyutyundzhieva had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Bulgaria. Yana Kozhuharova had
8 points in the losing effort. Bulgaria suffered 36 turnovers and shot just 33%
from the field in defeat.

Slovakian U16 team opened their European Championship in Division B campaign
with victory. They stunned Austria in Group A.
Noema Bradnanska (174-F-93) fired 18 points to pace the charge. Lenka
Slezarikova scored 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for Slovakia. Zofia
Hruscakova added 11 points in the win. Lisa Zderadicka and Julia Pocksteiner
responded with 8 points each in the loss. Slovakia outrebounded their opponents
62:36 and forced those into deadly 41 turnovers. Slovakia sank 41% from the
field, while holding their opponents to only 20%. Slovakia will face Montenegro,
while Austria will take on Ireland on Saturday.
Croatia - Ireland

Croatia claimed the first win at the U16 European Championship in Division B.
The tournament tipped off today in Tallinn, Estonia and Croatia faced Ireland in
Group A action. A furious second-quarter display from Croatia gave them the
decisive advantage and they cruised to the win at the end.
Ivana Blazevic (182-G-93) finished with 19 points for Croatia. Maja Puljic
added 16 points and 8 steals for the winners. Clodagh A. Scannell replied with
13 points for Ireland. Erika O'Keeffe had 9 points in defeat.

Romania - Israel

Romania earned the initial win at the U16 European Championship in Division B.
They cruised past Israel in the opening game in Group B today.

the winners. Arina Craciun had 14 points and 12 boards for Romania. Bianca
Blanaru added 9 points and 7 boards in the winning case. Keren Mozes answered

Latvia started their U16 European campaign with an easy win over Switzerland U16
in Estonia. The Baltic side won all the frames for the total 78:45 in Group B
opener.

Guna Lagzdina nailed 14 and Daiga Kuzmane brought 11. Shannon Hatch collected 10

Slovenia performed impressive comeback to steal a tough win over Luxembourg at
the start of the U16 European Championship in Division B. Trailing by 13 points
at halftime Slovenia did not surrender and eked out an exhausting victory at the
end.
Rebeka Abramovic (170-G-93) knocked down 15 points and made 8 steals to pace
Slovenia. Alina Gjerkes added 8 points in the victory. Lena Hetto replied with
21 points and 7 boards for Luxembourg. Nadia Marcus added 15 points and 8 boards
in the losing effort.
Bosnia - Bulgaria

Bosnia and Herzegovina celebrated the first win at the U16 European Championship
in Division B that started today in Estonia. They thrashed Bulgaria to take the
lead in Group C in Tallinn.
Krstina Surlan (179-F/G-93) knocked down 22 points to pace Bosnia and
Herzegovina.
Nikolina Milic (195-C-94) provided 17 points for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Miljana Dzombeta added 10 points, 8 steals and 7 assists in the win. Hristina
Tyutyundzhieva responded with 10 points for Bulgaria. Dora Sevova had 8 points
in defeat. Bulgaria suffered 32 turnovers and sank only 26% from the field in
the loss. Bosnia and Herzegovina will face Denmark, while Bulgaria will play
against Slovenia tomorrow.

Portugal - Holland

The Dutch U16 team registered the first win at the European Championship in
Division B. They toppled Portugal in preliminary Group D today. Netherlands were
able to overcome woeful 28 turnovers to tame Portuguese opponents at the end.
Kourtney Treffers (182-F-94) and Maxime Essenstam came up with 10 points
each to lead balanced offensive effort from Netherlands. Sharon Lammerink added
9 points and 16 rebounds in the victory. Catarina Neves responded with 14 points
and 8 boards for Portugal. Joana Jesus had 10 points in the loss. Netherland
outrebounded their opponents 51:29 and limited those to just 30% from the field.
Ukraine - United Kingdom

England opened their U16 European Championship Women 2009 Division B in Estonia
with a victory. The British side beat the Ukrainian side 68:41 in the opener of
Group D.
Christina Gaskins (183-C-93) top-scored for the winners with 16 points for
1-0 record. Lucy Buxton nailed 14, while Leah McDerment added 8 points. Kateryna
Demchenko ended up with 13 points in the losing case, while Oleksandra Chek
notched 9.
