FINAL
Belgium - Spain 53-57
Spain came out victorious from the dramatic title game at the U16 European Championship in Naples. They faced Belgium and had to endure the extra period to defend their title. The victory marked the fifth success for the Spanish team in the last six editions of the competition. Andrea Vilaro (179-F-93) finished with 15 points and 11 boards for Spain. Carla Rodriguez and Inmaculada Zanoguera added 8 points apiece in the win. Julie Vanloo responded with game-high 17 points for Belgium. Emma Meesseman contributed 12 points and 13 boards in the losing case.

3-4 spot
France - Russia 75-46
French U16 team wrapped up their European Championship campaign with win. They held off Russia in the consolation final to reach the podium at the tournament. Margaux Galliou secured 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the French team. Esther Moisan Niamke and Claire Stievenard (183-F-93) knocked down 16 points each for France. Diallo added 11 points in the win. Ksenia Tikhonenko responded with 16 points and 14 boards for Russia. Alina Zamaraeva added 12 points in the loss.

5-6 spot
Turkey - Italy 71-50
Turkish U16 team finished their European Championship campaign on a high note. They defeated hosting Italy to claim the fifth position. The victory also ensured the U17 World Championship birth for the team. Pelin Bilgic scored 17 points to lead Turkey. Ayse Cora (175-F-93) added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the win. Sara Bocchetti came up with 11 points for Italy. Francesca Dotto had 8 points in defeat.

7-8 spot
Greece - Czech Republic 59-54
Greece celebrated a tough win over Czech Republic on the final day of the U16 European Championship in Italy. The victory allowed Greece to claim the 7th overall position in the ladder. Czech Republic therefore finished in the 8th place. Anthoula Chatzigiakoumi (187-C-93) scored 16 points to lead the charge. Artemis Spanou produced 12 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Grigoria Pateraki and Elisavet Politopoulou added 7 points each in the victory. Tereza Vyoralova replied with 15 points for Czech Republic. Kamila Selucka had 13 points and 7 boards in the losing effort.

9-10 spot
Finland - Poland 76-63
Finland overwhelmed Poland in the final game at the U16 European Championship. The victory propelled Finland to the 9th position in the final standings. Evita Iiskola tallied 21 points and 12 boards to pace the charge. Annika Holopainen (183-F-93) knocked down 18 points to pace Finland. Janniina Koivunen contributed 13 points in the winning effort. Magdalena Koperwas and Karolina Puss responded with 15 points apiece for Poland. Justyna Jaworska had 12 points and 9 rebounds in the losing case.

11-12 spot
Lithuania - Serbia 47-50
Serbia narrowly defeated Lithuania on the final day of the U16 European Championship in Italy. The Balkan team claimed a narrow victory to occupy the 11th spot in the final ladder. Lithuania managed to finish just in the 12th position, the same they clinched last year. Natasa Kovacevic knocked down 12 points for Serbia. Ivana Brajkovic added 10 points and 14 boards, while Marija Radosevic (178-G-93) finished with 10 in the win. Monika Aleksaite responded with 12 points and 9 rebounds for Lithuania. Ieva Kazlauskaite had 11 points in defeat. Serbia outmuscled their opponents on the glass 52:29 and limited Lithuania to only 31% from the field.


Day: 8 (Semi-Finals) - Aug. 8, 2009 
5-8 places
Italy - Czech Republic 64-47
Italy toppled Czech Republic at the U16 European Championship today. The hosts of the tournament thus set up the clash against Turkey for the 5th overall position at the tournament. Czech Republic will wrap up their campaign in Naples against Greece tomorrow. Elettra Ferretti (175-G-93) knocked down 14 points and 7 boards for Italy. Francesca Dotto knocked down 12 points in the win. Tereza Vyoralova responded with 10 points and 7 rebounds for Czech Republic. Kamila Selucka and Monika Satoranska had 7 points each in the loss.

Greece - Turkey 52-60
Turkish U16 team left behind all the drama of the previous night to knock down Greece at the European championship today. Turkey lost their quarterfinal battle against France in four overtimes yesterday but were ready for the battle tonight. Turkey stepped on the gas in the second half to set up the clash for the 5th position against Italy. Greece will take on Czech Republic for the 7th spot. Pelin Bilgic (170-G-94) knocked down 17 points to pace Turkey. Yasemin Koc contributed 13 points in the winning effort. Anthoula Chatzigiakoumi replied with 23 points for Greece. Artemis Spanou had 14 points and 16 boards in defeat.

SEMIFINALS
Belgium - France 73-58
Belgian U16 team became the first finalists of the U16 European Championship in Naples. They held off exhausted France in the semifinal today to reach the championship game. The victory has already marked the highest ever result for Belgium. Lynn Delvaux (182-F-93) knocked down 24 points to lead Belgium. Emma Meesseman produced 18 points and 15 boards for Belgium. Julie Vanloo added 16 points in the winning case. Claire Stievenard responded with 11 points for France. Laure Mercier had 9 points in the loss.

Russia - Spain 46-66
The U16 European defending champions Spain reached the title game in Naples today. They overcame Russia and would be eying their fifth title in six years. Spain take on Belgium in tomorrows decider. Elena De Alfredo (168-G-94), Inmaculada Zanoguera and Carla Rodriguez knocked down 10 points each for Spain. Andrea Vilaro netted 9 points in the winning effort. Galina Kiseleva replied with 8 points for Russia. Ekaterina Fedorenkova had 7 points in defeat. Russia will play against France in the consolation final tomorrow.


Day: 7 (Quarter-Finals) - Aug. 7, 2009 
QUARTERFINALS
Spain - Czech Republic 87-33
An excellent defensive performance ensured an easy life for Spain at the quarterfinal stage of the U16 European Championship in Italy. They doused Czech Republic today to reach the semis. Spain overcame a slow start to wipe out their opponents in the second half. Elena De Alfredo and Sandra Martinez (188-C-93) notched 13 points each for the winners. Inmaculada Zanoguera added 12 points for Spain. Nela Vesela responded with 8 points for Czech Republic. Tereza Vyoralova had 7 points in defeat.

Russia - Italy 65-64
Russia became the third semifinalists at the U16 European Championship in Naples. They survived an overtime thriller to defy hosting Italy at the quarterfinal stage today. Ksenia Tikhonenko (190-C-93) tallied 20 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks to pace Russia to the hard-fought win. Ksenia Tikhonenko knocked down eight points in overtime to silence ambitious hosts. Galina Kiseleva nailed 16 points and 11 rebounds for Russia. Marina Ryavkina added 9 points in the win. Francesca Dotto and Alessandra Formica responded with 13 points each in defeat.

France - Turkey 99-96
Well, the word game would not refer completely to the game Quarterfinal clash between France U16 and Turkey U16 in Italy. France needed FOUR overtimes to take 99:96 victory at the U16 European Championship. Jodie Cornelie (193-F-93) paced all the winners with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Galliou nailed 18. Mercier and Diallo delivered 12 points each for the win. Kavurmacioglu collected 29 points and 13 boards in defeat, whilst Cakir made a triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.

Belgium - Greece 74-60
Belgian U16 team claimed the sixth straight win at the European Championship in Italy. They held off Greece to reach the semifinal stage of the tournament. Emma Meesseman (188-C-93) came up with another solid performance to pace Belgium. She tallied 19 points, 16 boards and 5 blocks in the win. Julie Vanloo nailed 17 points to lead Belgium. Lynn Delvaux added 13 points in the winning case. Artemis Spanou responded with 18 points and 14 boards for Greece. Elisavet Politopoulou netted 13 points in defeat.



9-12 places
Finland - Lithuania 59-51
Finland U16 claimed the victory at the European Championship today. They defeated Lithuania in the classification games for the 9th-12th position. Annika Holopainen scored 15 points and collected 7 rebounds to lead the Finnish team. The Scandinavian side will now take on the winner of Poland vs. Serbia clash for the 9th spot. Lithuania will try to occupy the 11th overall place in their final game at the tournament. Emmi Leino (177-F-94) and Janniina Koivunen knocked down 10 points each for Finland. Vita Zilinskaite responded with 20 points and 17 boards for Lithuania. Egle Zelnyte had 9 points and 8 rebounds in defeat.

Poland - Serbia 53-42
Poland won over Serbia in the classification games for the 9th-12th position. The polish side produced 53:42 to play on Sunday for the 9th spot. Beata Jaworska (185-F-94) top-scored for the winners with 10 points and Blicharz added 9. Kovacevic finished the night with 10 points, while Radosevic ended up with 7 in defeat.

Group G
Sweden - Belarus 66-43
Sweden outscored Belarus in the Relegation round of the U16 European Championship today. Amanda Zahui scored 27 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead the Scandinavian team. Sweden climbed at 2-1 record and clinched the top spot in Group G. Belarus claimed the second position despite the loss and avoided relegation. Ulrica Holmqvist (183-C-93) was helpful with 10 points and 10 rebounds for Sweden. Elin Gustavsson had 8 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds in the winning effort. Natallia Baklaha responded with 12 points for Belarus. Maryia Papova banked 10 points and 7 rebounds in the losing case.

Hungary - Germany 75-57
Hungary wrapped up their U16 European Championship campaign with victory over Germany today. But the victory turned invaluable as both Hungary and Germany got relegated into Division B claiming the third and fourth spots respectively in Group G. Amadea Szamosi (189-C-94) knocked down 15 points to lead the charge. Brigitta Barta added 14 points and 15 boards, while Fanni Szabo had 14 points in the win. Carla Bellscheidt responded with 21 points and 13 boards for Germany. Laura Hebecker contributed 12 points in the loss.


Day: 6 (Qualifying Round) - Aug. 5, 2009 
Group E
Spain - Italy 76-71
Spain handed Italy another loss at the European Championships U16 as both teams advanced to the Quarterfinals with 3-2 records. Spain overcame Italian side 76:71 in the top game of the group. Andrea Vilaro (179-F-93) led the way with 18 points and De Alfredo Elena notched 14. Diaz Yurena scored 10, while Balart Marles delivered 9 points. Dotto Francesca finished the night with 17 points in defeat and Ferretti Elettra posted 11.

Belgium - Serbia 63-50
Belgium became the leader of Group E at the European Championships U16. The team needed 63:50 over Serbia to win it with 4-1 record. Julie Vanloo (174-G-93) top-scored for the winners with 24 points and Delvaux Lynn netted 13. Meesseman Emma collected 10 points and 10 boards, while Henry Celine added 5 points for the Quarterfinal birth. Kovacevic Natasa netted 14 points in the losing effort and Rajic Tamara delivered 10 points.

Turkey - Finland 61-45
Turkey advanced to the Quarterfinals of the European Championships U16 after the win over Finland. The Turkish side won 61:45 to improve to 3-2 record in the group and advanced from third place. Gulsah Duman (176-F-93) paced all the winners with 13 points and Cakir Olcay added 10. Iiskola Evita ended up with 11 points in the losing case and Leino Emmi notched 9.

Group F
Poland - Czech Republic 63-84
Czech Republic survived a thriller over Poland at the European Championships U16 to take their place at the Quarterfinals. Both teams struggled hard, however the Czechs produced 84:63 for 3-2 record. Kamila Selucka (187-C-93) top-scored for the winners with 12 points and Ondrejkova Barbora notched 11. Vesela Nela and Satoranska Monika delivered 10 points each in a win. Koperwas Magdalena finished the night with 18 points for the Polish side, while Jaworska Beata scored 15.

Greece - Lithuania 65-37
Greece U16 grabbed the last ticket to the Quarterfinals of the European Championships U16 as they smashed Lithuania in the last game of the Qualifying Round. Greece beat the Baltic side 65:37 for 2-3 record that gave them the fourth position in the group. Artemis Spanou (185-F-93) led the way with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Kampouraki Dimitra scored 14. Zelnyte Egle delivered 14 points in the losing effort and Kazlauskaite Ieva posted 10.

France - Russia 41-57
Russia overcame France in the top game of the European Championships U16 tonight and won Group F of the tournament. There are no more undefeated teams left in the league as Russia produced 57:41 victory. Ksenia Tikhonenko (190-C-93) top-scored for the winners with 18 points and 11 boards for 4-1 record. Fedorenkova Ekaterina nailed 10 and Ryavkina Marina scored 8. Diallo Christelle chipped in 13 points in the losing effort.

Group G
Hungary - Sweden 79-64
Hungary posted the second straight win in Group G of the U16 European Championship. They held off Sweden to improve at 2-0 record on top of the pool. Sweden fell at 1-1 record in Naples. Brigitta Barta was unstoppable with 36 points and 9 rebounds for Hungary in this one.Fanni Szabo (178-G-94) finished with 20 points and 7 rebounds for Hungary. Dora Koch added 9 points in the winning case. Nathalie Fontaine replied with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Elin Gustavsson and Paulina Hersler had 13 points each in the loss.

Germany - Belarus 62-66
Belarus gained important win over Germany at the U16 European Championship in Naples. The victory allowed Belarusian team to climb at 1-1 record in the classification round Group G. They will face Sweden in the decisive game to remain in Division A for the next year. Germany in the meantime slipped at 0-2 record and came to the verge of being eliminated to the lower division. Maryna Ivashchanka (188-C-93) produced 16 points and 10 rebounds for Belarus. Natallia Baklaha added 14 points in the winning effort. Carla Bellscheidt responded with 20 points and 10 rebounds for Germany. Aline Stiller netted 7 points in defeat.


Day: 5 (Qualifying Round) - Aug. 4, 2009 
Group E
Italy - Belgium 50-61
Belgian U16 team posted the fourth win at the European championship in Naples. They upset the hosts today to improve at 3-1 record in the Qualifying round Group E. Italy suffered the first loss at the tournament and slipped at 3-1 record in the pool. Julie Vanloo was the usual contributor for the visitors as she knocked down 22 points. Emma Meesseman (188-C-93) tallied 17 points, 17 boards and 7 blocks for Belgium. Ann Schyvens had 11 points in the winning case. Caterina Dotto responded with 11 points for Italy. Francesca Dotto netted 8 points in the loss.

Turkey - Spain 67-64
Spain U16 suffered the second straight pity loss at the U16 European Championship. Turkey tied them with 2-2 record in Group E after 67:64 victory on Tuesday night. Olcay Cakir (180-G-93) collected 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Kavurmacioglu nailed 10, while Cora scored 9. Diaz ended up with 17 points in the losing effort as Spain dropped at 2-2. Rodriguez posted 14 and Llobet added 10.

Finland - Serbia 61-53
Finland U16 upset the Serbian team in the opener of Qualifying Day 2 in Naples. The Scandinavian team overcame Serbia 61:53 for the first victory. Evita Iiskola (181-F-93) top-scored for the winners with 16 points for 1-3 record. Janniina Koivunen netted 15 and Anette Juvonen scored 13. Natasa Kovacevic and Ivana Brajkovic delivered 14 points each in the losing effort.

Group F
Greece - France 54-59
As Tuesday was not sweet for Russia and Italy, France is now the only undefeated team at the U16 European Championship. The favorites had a real thriller over Greece, however survived in a 59:54 victory. Olivia Epoupa (163-G-94) paced all the winners with 14 points and Diallo netted 13. Slouka and Chatzigiakoumi delivered 12 points each in the losing effort.

Lithuania - Czech Republic 61-62
Czech U16 team posted the first win at the Qualifying round of the European Championship in Italy. They sneaked past Lithuania to improve at 2-2 record in Group F. Lithuania suffered the second straight loss and slipped at 0-4 record at the bottom of the ladder. Tereza Vyoralova (175-G-94) knocked down a buzzer-beater basket to steal the win for Czech Republic. Tereza Vyoralova tallied 19 points and 10 rebounds for Czech Republic. Nela Vesela added 11 points and 12 boards in the win. Vita Zilinskaite responded with 17 points and 13 boards for Lithuania. Ieva Kazlauskaite dropped 14 points and collected 14 rebounds in defeat.

Poland - Russia 65-61
Polish U16 National team snapped Russias winning streak at the European championship in Italy. Poland claimed a narrow win today to improve at 2-2 record in Group F. Russia suffered the initial loss at the tournament and fell at 3-1 record. Karolina Puss (180-F-94) knocked down 15 points to pace Poland. Magdalena Koperwas had 13 points in the winning case. Ksenia Tikhonenko responded with 23 points and 12 boards for Russia. Alina Zamaraeva nailed 13 points in the loss.


Day: 4 (Qualifying Round) - Aug. 3, 2009 
Group E
Serbia - Spain 59-56
Serbia upset Spain at the U16 European Championship in Naples in Group E. Serbia grabbed 59:56 victory to take 1-2 record in the group. Ivana Brajkovic (195-C-93) paced all the winners with 15 points and 12 boards. Kovacevic nailed 13, while Stancic notched 12. Vilaro ended up with 17 and Rodriguez had 10 in defeat.

Belgium - Turkey 78-48

Italy U16 won the thriller over the Scandinavian team to remain perfect in Naples. The favorites overcame Finland 64:62 at the U16 European Championship at home. Francesca Dotto (165-G-93) and Panella top-scored for the winners with 10 points each. Koivunen paced the Finnish side with 16 points. Juvonen collected 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Iiskola had 12 points and 10 boards.

Czech Republic - France 31-55
France show no sign of letting up and continue to look a realistic medal prospect as they returned from the rest day to record a fourth win in five days with a brutal 55:31 demolition of Czech Republic. The team improved to 4-0 record at the U16 European Championship in Naples. Christelle Diallo (193-C-93) paced all the winners with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Galliou nailed 8. Vyoralova ended up with 8 points in the losing case and Pohunkova notched 5.

Poland - Greece 37-50
Greece recorded the first win at the Qualifying Round of the U16 European Championship in Italy. They held off Poland for a 1-2 record in Group F. Poland slipped at 1-2 record after the loss. Artemis Spanou was the usual force the Greek team with 11 points and 17 rebounds. Elisavet Politopoulou (164-G-93) and Anastasia Slouka notched 13 points each for Greece. Pateraki had 8 points and 8 boards in the win. Karolina Puss nailed 12 points for Poland. Dominika Owczarzak netted 7 points in the losing case.

Lithuania - Russia 52-90
Russia won the opener of the Qualifying Round in Naples at the U16 European Championship. The favorites outscored Lithuania 90:52 dominating the court in the last three quarters. Anna Khmelevskaya (172-G-94) paced all the winners with 13 points and Tikhonenko nailed 12. Zamaraeva and Knyazeva added 10 points for 3-0 record. Zilinskaite ended up with 14 points in defeat and Kazlauskaite posted 13.

Sweden - Germany 66-61
Swedish U16 team made the first step towards securing their Division A spot at the European Championship. They held off Germany in Group G action today in Naples. Elin Gustavsson (185-F-93) stepped up with 21 points and 11 rebounds to pace Sweden to the win. Nathalie Fontaine tallied 16 points and 7 rebounds for Sweden. Amanda Zahui had 8 points in the winning case. Laura Hebecker responded with 18 points, 8 boards and 7 steals for Germany. Sophie Eder netted 15 points in defeat.

Belarus - Hungary 72-52
Belarus claimed the first win at the U16 European Championship. They defeated Hungary at the start of the classification games in Group G. Maryna Ivashchanka knocked down 20 points and grabbed 12 boards to lead the charge. Darya Lipinskaya (178-G-93) tallied 15 points to pace Belarus. Maryia Papova had 12 points and 16 boards in the win. Brigitta Barta responded with 14 points and 11 boards for Hungary. Fanni Szabo netted 9 points in defeat.

Serbia - Italy 52-64
Italy won Group A of the Preliminary Round Group A as they defeated Serbia 64:52. Stella Panella (178-F-93) top-scored for the winners with 15 points and Dotto Caterina netted 12. Brajkovic Ivana chipped in 15 points and had 10 rebounds in the losing effort.

Sweden - Turkey 40-48
Turkey remained Sweden winless in Group A after 48:40 in Day 3.Turkey finished group with 2-1 record after 48:40 defensive victory. Ayse Cora (175-F-93) top-scored for the winners with 13 points and Kavurmacioglu Ozge collected 10 points and 10 boards. Zahui Amanda ended up with 9 points and 13 caroms in the losing case.

Group B
Spain - Finland 83-37
Spain won Group B at the European Championships U16 as they rolled over Finland 83:37 in Day 3. Zanoguera Inmaculada paced all the winners with 17 points and Vilaro Andrea netted 14. Janniina Koivunen (184-C-93) poured in 16 points in the losing case. The Scandinavian team finished with 1-2 record on the third place.

Belarus - Belgium 53-81
Belgium improved to 2-1 record in Group B of the Preliminary Round after the win over Belarus 81:53. Emma Meesseman (188-C-93) led the way with 21 points and 12 rebounds, whilst Vanloo Julie notched 16. Lipinskaya Darya ended up with 14 points in the losing case and Baklaha Natallia had 12.

Czech Republic - Greece 57-54
Czech Republic edged Greece 57:54 as both teams advanced to the Qualifying Round. Tereza Vyoralova (175-G-94) and Pohunkova Dominika paced all the winners for the initial victory. Politopoulou Elisavet notched also 15 teams for her team as Greece finished with 1-2 record.

Russia - Hungary 74-54
Russia overcame Hungary 74:54 and sent them to the Classification Round at the U16 European Championship for Women. Russia won Group C as Galina Kiseleva (182-F-93) top-scored for the winners with 15 points. Tikhonenko Ksenia netted 13 and Gladkova Julia scored 11. Barta Brigitta finished the game with 23 points and 16 boards in defeat.

Group D
France - Germany 77-42
France topped Group D with another stunning display as they crushed winless Germany by 77:42. Jodie Cornelie (193-F-93) top-scored for the winners with 13 points and Plust Caroline added 11. Hebecker Laura ended up with 12 points in the losing effort. Germany will play in the Classification round for the stay in Division A.

Poland - Lithuania 63-55
Poland became the second team in Group D as they edged Lithuania 63:55 in Day 3. Beata Jaworska (185-F-94) paced all the winners with 13 points, while Koperwas Magdalena and Puss Karolina posted 11 each. Kazlauskaite Ieva collected 14 points and 14 boards in the losing effort.

Italy confirmed their highest ambitions for the home U16 European Championship today. They recorded the second win in a row to take the lead in Group A. Turkey in the meantime slipped at 1-1 record. Alessandra Formica (189-F/C-93) came up with 11 points to pace Italy. Stella Panella added 9 points and 8 rebounds, while Marta Masoni and Francesca Dotto had 7 points in the win. Spanish U16 team posted the second consecutive win at the European Championship in Italy. They chopped up Belarus opponents in Group B action. Spain improved at 2-0 record on top of the pool. Belarus slipped at 0-2 record. Itziar Llobet (177-G-93) knocked down 19 points to pace Spain. Inmaculada Zanoguera and Silvia Marcelo added 10 points each in the winning case. Greek U16 team posted the first win in Naples. They held off Hungary in overtime to bounce back after the opening loss at the European championship. Artemis Spanou tallied 19 points and 12 boards as Greece caught up with Hungary in preliminary Group C ladder.Elisavet Politopoulou scored 15 points for Greece. Anastasia Slouka added 10 points in the victory. Brigitta Barta (182-C-93) answered with 20 points and 12 boards for Hungary. Amadea Szamosi had 8 points and 11 caroms in the defeat.

Group D
Poland - France 39-96
France reached 2-0 in Group D of the U16 European Championship in Division A. The French side smashed Poland 96:39 in Day 2 to stay undefeated. Esther Moisan Niamke top-scored for the winners with 17 points. Sabrine Bouzenna (169-G-93) nailed 15 and Sara Chevaugeon added 11. Magdalena Koperwas ended up with 17 points in the losing effort, while Kaja Pabisiak notched 7. Poland suffered their first loss and dropped at 1-1.

Lithuania - Germany 68-65
Lithuania clinched the opening win at the U16 European Championship. They came from behind to stun Germany for 1-1 record in preliminary Group D. Germany suffered the second straight loss at the tournament. Vita Zilinskaite (190-C-93) tallied 16 points and 14 rebounds for Lithuania. Monika Aleksaite added 16 points and 8 boards in the winning effort. Sophie Eder responded with 23 points for Germany. Carla Bellscheidt had 9 points in the loss.

Turkish U16 team posted a tough win at the beginning of the European Championship in Naples, Italy. They overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to handle Serbia in Group A action. Olcay Cakir (180-G-93) exploded with 20 points, 12 boards, 7 steals and 5 assists to pace Turkey. Ayse Cora knocked down 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for the winners. Natasa Kovacevic had 13 points for Serbia. Aleksandra Stanacev finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds in defeat. Turkey outrebounded Serbia 50:47 and capitalized on a low-shooting percentage from a Zoran Kovacic team as they sank 27%. Italy won their opener of U16 European Championship in Naples, Italy. The home side outscored Sweden U16 70:48 for the first points in the group. France - Lithuania 72-52
French U16 team coasted to the opening win at the European Championship in Naples, Italy. They stunned Lithuanian counterparts in Group D action. Margaux Galliou (184-F-93) knocked down 11 points and pulled down 8 boards to pace France. Claire Stievenard and Christelle Diallo added 10 points each in the win. Monika Aleksaite replied with 11 points for Lithuania. Ieva Kazlauskaite had 9 points in the losing case. France will next take on Poland. Lithuania will try to rebound against Germany tomorrow.
