Switzerland - Belgium 59-64 Belgium celebrated 64-59 win over Switzerland in Day Four of U20 EuroBasket Division B in Klatovy. Thanks to this win Belgium jumped to 2-2 record at this event, while at the other side Switzerland dropped to 0-3. Belgium had impressive start today making 28-11 lead. Switzerland replied with 16-6 in the second quarter and 14-10 in Q3. Switzerland continued in the same rhythm and grabbed 2-point lead at the halfway of the last period. However, Belgium created 14-7 run after that and jumped to 59-54 lead with 42 seconds to go. It was too much for Switzerland. Emmanuella Mayombo (170-SG-92, agency: LBM Management) led Belgium with 17 points and Liza Biebuyck (173-G/F-93) followed her with 12 pts. Evi Hayse (181-C/F-93) helped with 8 points and 6 rebounds. In defeat, Rosalie Grobet (185-F/C-92) was better than the others with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Sarah Cavin (178-SF-92) was their second scorer with 13 points. On Tuesday, Belgium will meet Germany. Switzerland will play against Israel.
Germany - Greece 41-48 Germany extended its wining streak to four at U20 EuroBasket Division B in Klatovy. They outplayed Germany today 48-41 for 4-0 record at this event. Third quarter was the crucial one in this meeting. Germany had minimum lead at the halftime, but Greece took control on them after that making 15-6 in third period for plus 8 with ten minutes to go. All what Germany managed to do for rest of the way was minus 3. Artemis Spanou (184-F-93) was a key player in victory with 25 points and 15 rebounds. She reached valuation 24. Anastasia Slouka (182-SG-93) and Anthoula Chatzigiakoumi (187-F-92) (8 rebs) had 7 and 6 points respectively. Germany got 13 points and 6 rebs from Sonja Greinacher (192-F/C-92, college: Gonzaga), while Judith Schmidt (186-F/C-92) had 7 points and 8 boards. Greece will take a day-off tomorrow. Germany will play against Belgium.
Romania - Israel 80-73 OT Both teams had 1-2 record before this meeting. Romania grabbed 80-73 OT win against Israel joining Belgium at fifth place in U20 EuroBasket Division B in Klatovy. Israel dropped to seventh place with 1-3 score. Israel had 66-68 lead in the finish of regular time, but Cristina Bigica (182-G/F-92) than made a lay-up for Romania with only 2 seconds to go. Romania made crucial 7-1 run at the beginning of extra time and later managed to keep its lead for rest of the way. Bigica paced the winning squad with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Sonia Ursu (175-SG-93) (9 rebs) and Alexandra Ionescu (175-PG-92) helped their team with 18 points each. In the loosing squad, Bar Gilinski (185-PF-92) shined with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Avigiel Cohen (182-G-92) and Thea Lemberger (175-G-92) posted 15 points each. Quarters: 16-23, 13-15, 22-17, 17-13, 12-5 OT. In the next game Romania will meet Hungary, while Israel will play against Switzerland.
Bulgaria - Hungary 38-41 Third straight win for Hungary at U20 EuroBasket Division B in Klatovy. This time Hungary outsmarted Bulgaria in a low scoring game 41-38. Bulgaria had 38-37 lead with 2:26 remaining, but they were scoreless for rest of the way. At the other side, Anna Mansare (188-F/C-92) made a jump shot for Hungary and Zsofia Licskai (191-C/F-93) sealed the victory with lay-up. Quarters: 12-10, 5-12, 12-6, 12-10. Mansare scored 10 points in win and Licskai added 8 pts, plus 8 rebounds. Third scorer in Hungary was Viktoria Fuisz (175-G/F-93) with 7 points. In defeat, Gabriela Kostova (192-C-94) was better than the others with 12 points and 5 rebounds, while Iva Kostova (178-SG-94) had 9 pts and 5 boards. Championship continues on Tuesday. Hungary will take on Romania and Bulgaria will meet the host - Czech Republic.

A year ago Spain also outplayed Russia in the title game 62-53. Queralt Casas (180-G-92) stepped up for the winners tonight with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Laura Gil (190-C-92, agency: Josep and Nicolas) had double-double of 10 points and 16 boards, while Inmaculada Zanoguera (177-G/F-93) added 10 points and 6 rebs. Gil was the MVP of this meeting with valuation 21. In Russia, Ksenia Tikhonenko (190-F/C-93, agency: Ryzhov Stanislav) had 12 points and 6 rebounds, and Yulia Poluyanova (187-F-92) posted 10 pts. Galina Kiseleva (184-F-93) followed them with 9 points and 8 boards. Spain limited Russia to just 4 points in Q1 and was up by 8 after it (12-4). Spain was constantly in charge for rest of the game. They jumped to plus 13 at the middle of Q4 and question about the winner was resolved. Quarters: 12-4, 14-15, 16-13, 17-14. Turkey won the bronze medal in Debrecen. Ksenia Tikhonenko is named MVP of the tournament.

Holland - Turkey 56-58 Turkey won the bronze medal at U20 EuroBasket in Derbecen. They grabbed 58-56 thriller win against Holland in the last day of the competition. Turkey shined from the start making plus 7 in the first ten minutes and later they jumped to 40-28 until the halftime. Each of two teams scored 10 points in Q3 and than Holland took control on its rival. They cut the margin to 56-54 with 1:47 remaining in the game, but the ice-cool Emel Guler nailed the shot that ultimately won the game and ended what would have been an epic and fairytale finish for the crestfallen Dutch. It is important to mention that Holland came to minus 2 again and they missed two lay-ups and one jump shot in the last 36 seconds of the game. Ayse Cora (175-G/F-93) led Turkey with 17 points in this meeting. Olcay Cakir (180-PG-93) had 15 points and 6 assists, while Ecem Guler (189-PF-92) added 9 points and 9 rebs. In defeat, Sharon Lammerink (189-C-93) was better than the others with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Marlou De Kleijn (182-F-92, agency: Regeneracom Sports) and Richelle Van Der Keijl (196-C-93) (9 rebs) netted 14 and 10 points respectively. Holland was 0-18 from three-point range until the late intervention of Lammerink who hit three in a row during the last couple of minutes. Spain defended the title in Debrecen with 59-46 win over Russia.

Sweden - France 46-66 France finished as the fifth ranked team of U20 EuroBasket in Debrecen. They downed Sweden 66-46 in the last day of the competition. Sweden ended as No.6. Second quarter was the crucial on in this meeting as France limited its rival to just 3 points, while they drained 17 pts at the other side. Quarters: 17-12, 17-3, 15-17, 17-14. Christelle Diallo (193-C-93) led the winners with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Alice Nayo (186-C-93) (6 rebs) and Adja Konteh (173-G/F-92) helped with 10 points each. In the loosing squad, Farhiya Abdi (188-F-92) (6 rebs) and Amanda Zahui (190-C-93) (5 rebs) scored 11 points apiece. Binta Drammeh (180-F-92) followed them with 6 points and 6 rebounds, with poor shot percentage. Spain defended the title in Debrecen with 59-46 win over Russia. Turkey won the bronze medal.

Ukraine - Belarus 79-62 It was a game for the seventh place at U20 EuroBasket in Debrecen. Ukraine had no troubles to beat Belarus with comfortable 79-62. So Ukraine ended as the 7th ranked team at this event, while Belarus in No.8. Ukraine was up by 3 at the halftime and jumped to plus 8 with one quarter left in the game. They drained 26 points for the last ten minutes, while limiting Belarus to 17, what was enough for comfortable win at the end. Alina Iagupova (186-G-92, agency: LBM Management) once again was a key player in Ukraine and she almost had triple-double in this game: 31 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists (valuation 31). Oleksandra Chek (191-C-93, agency: New Trend Agency) also was great adding 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Miriam Uro-Nile (190-C-94) helped with 9 pts. In defeat, Maryia Papova (186-PF-94) shined with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Maryia Filonchyk (187-PF-92) had 12 points and 6 boards, while Alena Holubeva (176-PG-94) stopped to 8 pts and 5 rebs. Spain defended the title in Derbecen with 59-46 win over Russia. The Bronze belongs to Turkey.

Italy - Latvia 83-59 Italy survived in Division A of U20 EuroBasket in Debrecen. They won Group G with perfect 6-0 record and that is enough for 13th place at this event. At the other side, Latvia finished as third ranked team in this pool (15th place) with 3-3 record. They will compete in Division B next summer. Italy shined in the second half of the game to beat Latvia on Sunday. Quarters: 13-10, 18-18, 24-12, 28-19. Caterina Dotto (167-PG-93) (5 rebs) and Irene Cigliani (177-F-92) scored 14 points each for the winners. Stella Panella (178-F-93) followed them with one point less. Dita Rozenberga (181-F-92) answered with 11 points and 6 rebs in defeat, while Krista Bridina (174-PG-94) had one point less than her. Guna Lagzdina (187-C-93) collected 9 points and 5 boards. Spain defended the title in Debrecen with 59-46 win over Sweden. The Bronze belongs to Turkey.
United Kingdom - Portugal 54-62 Both teams faced with relegation to Division B at U20 EuroBasket in Derbecen. Portugal finished as the second ranked team of Group G with 3-3 record, while UK closes the standings in this pool with 0-6. It means that Portugal ended as No.14 in Debrecen and UK is the last ranked team - No.16. Jessica Almeida (172-PG-93) led Portugal to victory in the final day with 20 points. Daniela Domingues (176-G/F-92) scored 18 and Vitoria Pacheco (179-C-92) added 8 points, plus 5 rebounds. In the loosing squad, Cheridene Green (187-C-95) was better than the others with double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds. Olufemi Hamilton (170-G-93) scored 12 points and starter Francesca Whitby (175-G-92) stopped to 7 pts, plus 5 boards. Spain defended the title in Debrecen. They handed 59-46 loss to Russia in the big final. Turkey won the bronze medal.
