Division B in Klatovy: Gold belongs to Greece, Spanou is MVP - Aug 27, 2012

Czech Republic - Greece 71-76
Greece won the gold medal at U20 EuroBasket Division B in Klatovy. They outsmarted Czech Republic 76-71 in the last day of the competition. Greece also won the promotion for Division A, while the host of this event failed to do it. They ended as No.5 with 4-4 record. Artemis Spanou (184-F/C-93) exploded with 33 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Anna Stamolamprou (171-PG-95) netted 18 points and Vasiliki Tarla (181-SF-94) was their third scorer with 6 points (5 rebs). For the hosts, Dominika Pohunkova (176-G-94) shined with 16 points and Pamela-Therese Effangova (175-SF-93) added four points less. Barbora Kasparkova (181-F/C-92) collected 11 pts and 7 rebs. Greece shined in the last ten minutes to beat Czech Republic. Quarters: 12-21, 23-19, 20-14, 16-22. Germany won the silver medal in Klatovy. Hungary took the bronze. Artemis Spanou is MVP of the tournament.

Romania - Switzerland 43-65
Switzerland avoided last place at U20 EuroBasket Division B in Klatovy. They handed 65-43 loss to Romania in the last day of the competition. Thanks to this win Switzerland ended as No.7 with 2-6 record. Romania finished as fourth ranked team with 4-4 score. Switzerland took control on its rival in the second period and never looked back. Quarters: 16-16, 6-17, 12-16, 9-16. Rosalie Grobet (185-F/C-92) led the winners with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Sarah Cavin (178-SF-92) scored 13 points and Vanessa Dorestant (170-G-92) added 11 pts, plus 6 boards. In defeat, Cristina Bigica (182-G/F-92) was better than the others with 12 points. Their second scorer was Dora Ardelean (186-PF-94) with 10 pts. Greece won the gold medal at this event. Germany is No.2 and Hungary No.3. All three teams will compete in Division A next summer.

Bulgaria - Germany 64-83
Germany won the silver medal at U20 EuroBasket Division B in Klatovy. They outplayed Bulgaria in the last day of the competition 83-64. Germany (6-2) also won the promotion for Division A. At the other side, Bulgaria ended as the last ranked team in Klatovy with 1-7 score. Germany took control on its rival from the very beginning and never looked back. Quarters: 12-23, 16-17, 14-22, 22-21. Sonja Greinacher (192-F/C-92, college: Gonzaga) was the MVP of this game with 20 points and 8 rebounds (valuation 25). Finja Schaake (179-F-92) scored 10 points and Janna Graf (183-PF-92) added 8 pts, plus 6 rebounds. Kristina Peychinova (176-SG-94) responded with 17 points in defeat. Gabriela Kostova (192-C-94) followed her with 15 points and 5 rebs, and Ralitsa Genova (192-C-95) stopped to 7 points. Greece won the gold medal in Klatovy. The Bronze belongs to Hungary.

Hungary - Belgium 56-41
Hungary won the bronze medal at U20 EuroBasket Division B in Klatovy. They outplayed Belgium in the last day of the competition 56-41. It is important to say that Hungary also won the promotion and will compete in Division A next summer. Belgium finished as the seventh ranked team in Klatovy with 3-5 score. Zsofia Licskai (191-C/F-93) had 12 points and 5 rebounds for the winners, and Viktoria Fuisz (175-G/F-93) added 10 points. Flora Szabo (188-PF-92) helped with 6 pts and 5 boards. In Belgium, Marieke Versavel (168-PG-92) top-scored with only 7 points. Celine Henry (174-F-93) had 6 points and 5 rebounds. Hungary exploded in the last ten minutes to take the victory in this meeting. Quarters: 14-11, 9-10, 8-11, 25-9. Greece won the gold medal in Klatovy. Silver belongs to Germany.

Samsun to host Division A from 4-14 July. The Turkish city will invite 16 teams that are divided into 4 groups. Serbia, Ukraine, Belarus and Netherlands will play in Group A. Poland, Slovak Republic, Greece and Spain made Group B. In Group C Italy will play against Russia, Hungary and France. Turkey, Lithuania, Germany and Sweden were sent to Group D.
