Div. B Day: 9 (Finals) - Jul. 26, 2009 

3rd place

Poland - Sweden 96-66
Polish U20 National Team climbed on the pedestal of the European Championship in Division B. They thrashed Swedish counterparts today to claim the third overall spot at the tournament. Sweden finished in the fourth position. Mateusz Kostrzewski (201-G/F-89) finished with 20 points for Poland. Tomasz Snieg added 14 points and 6 assists in the victory. Johan Ronstrom responded with 17 points for Sweden. Christopher Ryan had 12 points and 6 assists in the loss.

5th place
Austria - FYR Macedonia 87-67
Austrian U20 team claimed the 5th spot at the European Championship in Division B. They coasted past hosting Macedonia to wrap up their Skopje visit in style. Rasid Mahalbasic (207-F/C-90) tallied 26 points and 10 boards to pace Austria. Thomas Csebits scored 18 points for Austria. Sebastian Schaal had 17 points in the winning case. Marko Simonovski replied with 16 points, 6 assists and 5 boards for Macedonia. Vladimir Brckov added 15 points in defeat.

7th place
Georgia - Finland 75-97
Roopi Ahonen (186-G-90) scored 21 points to lift Finland to a comfortable win over Georgia on the final day of the U20 European Championship in Division B tonight. Finland rallied past Georgia in Skopje to clinch the 7th spot. Atte Perttu notched 19 points for Finland. Antti Kanervo added 14 points in the winning case. Richard Matiashvili poured in game-high 23 points for Georgia. Levan Shengelia had 19 points in the loss.

Czech Republic - Holland 77-88
Netherlands claimed the U20 European Championship in Division B crown edging Czech Republic in an overtime drama tonight. Czech Republic denied an 8-point deficit midway through the final stanza to force the extra period. But the Dutch team pulled together to produce an exhausting win at the end. Hieronymus Van Der List (211-C-89) finished with 26 points, 6 boards and 5 assists to lead the charge. Thomas Koenis (207-F/C-89, agency: Court Side) added 24 points and 15 boards for the victors. David Jelinek and Pavel Harcar responded with 20 points apiece for Czech Republic in defeat.

Group J
Slovakia - Norway 80-69
Slovakia clinched the tenth overall spot beating Norway in the final game of the tournament. Lukas Hoferica (200-C-89) scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Slovakia. Boris Kovalik added 12 points, 6 boards and 4 assists for the winning team. Aksel Bolin responded with 15 points for Norway. Magne Fivelstad added 11 points and 12 boards in defeat.

Group K
Hungary - Switzerland 85-88
The Swiss U20 team grabbed the 12th position at the European Championship in Division B. They toppled Hungary today to complete the action on a high note. Christophe Varidel (185-G-89) knocked down 33 points to orchestrate the victory. Hungary occupied the 14th spot after the defeat. Lucas Waldesbuhl netted 20 points for Switzerland. Davide Garruti and Ian Savoy added 9 points each in the victory. Mate Medve replied with 21 points for Hungary. Adam Toth had 19 points and 8 boards in the losing case.

Group L
Romania - Luxembourg 79-92
Luxembourg U20 team claimed the 16th overall position at the European Championship in Division B. They wrapped up their Skopje campaign with a comfortable win over Romania. Pitt Koster (178-G/F-89) fired 26 points to pace Luxembourg to the win. Laurent Schwartz knocked down 24 points for the winners. Christopher Jones added 12 points and 11 boards for Luxembourg. Andrei Bercean responded with 19 points for Romania. Rolland Torok had 16 points and 19 boards in defeat.


Div. B Day: 8 (Semi-Finals) - Jul. 25, 2009 

5th-8th spot

Georgia - Austria 80-88
Austrian U20 National Team will fight for the 5th position at the European Championship in Division B. They topped Georgia today in the classification round. Rasid Mahalbasic (207-F/C-90) exploded with 30 points and 16 boards for Austria. Thomas Csebits added 17 points in the win. Konstantine Tomaradze had 18 points for Georgia. Levan Tsekvava contributed 13 points in defeat.

FYR Macedonia - Finland 77-55
Macedonian U20 selection earned the victory over Finland in the classification round of the European Championship in Division B. Macedonia will now fight for the 5th spot against Austria. Finland will take on Georgia for the 7th position tomorrow. Ivica Dimcevski (192-G-89) tallied 21 points, 9 boards, 8 steals and 8 assists in a terrific all-around performance for Macedonia. Marko Simonovski knocked down 20 points for Macedonia. Bojan Krstevski added 16 points in the victory. Antti Kanervo responded with 18 points for Finland. Jesse Petteri Mantyla finished with 9 points in defeat.

Group J

Bulgaria - Slovakia 92-89
Bulgaria overcame Slovakia to win Group J of the Classification Round. Bulgaria produced 92:89 to won the group 2-0. Tsvetelin Ivanov (196-G-89) and Zahariev Hriston top-scored for the winners with 19 points apiece. Baldovsky Stanislav nailed 32 points in defeat, while Hoferica Lukas scord 27.

Group K

United Kingdom - Hungary 80-65
Great Britain U20 finished Group K of the Classification Round with 1-1 record after the initial victory today in Macedonia. The British team won over Hungary 80:65 at the U20 European Championship in Division B.William Neighbour (203-F-90) top-scored for the winners with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Lawrence nailed 20, whilst Treasure collected 19 points and 10 rebounds. Szabo delivered 18 points in the losing effort. Medve posted 16, while Somogyi scored 10.

Group L

Portugal - Romania 96-63
Portugal won Group L of the Classification Round at the U20 European Championship in Division B. The team finished the group with 2-0 record after 96:63 over Romania. Monteiro led the way with 16 points and Bessa added 15. Cordeiro chipped in 14 points for the top team in Group L. Gutoaia ended up with 14 points in the losing effort and Torok posted 12.

Semifinals

Poland - Czech Republic 66-79
Czech Republic U20 became the first Finalist of the U20 European Championship in Division B. The team overcame Poland U20 79:66 in Macedonia to reach the Finals. Czech Republic U20 opened the game with five consecutive points, while Pamula reduced to 12:9. The Czechs controlled the majority of the period and had 23:17 after the first 10 minutes. Poland seemed to recover in the beginning of the second frame when Snieg cut it to 27:23 and Waczynski scored for 35:33 later in the game. Moreover Poland went in front for 36:35 with the shot from Pamula and Waczynski sent the teams to the lockers for 37:35. Vojtech Hruban (197-F-89) tied the game at 39:39, while the score was even four times in the period. It was also tied at the end of thirty minutes when Wojciechowski made a jump shot for 53:53. Czech Republic U20 scored the first 6 points in the last quarter and Zampach made it 59:53. Pamula tied the game at 64:64, but it was the last push from the Polish team. Czech Republic U20 finished the game with 15-2 to grab the final ticket in the tournament. Vojtech Hruban made a lay-up at the end for the total success. Vojtech Hruban paced all the winners with 21 points. Harcar notched 15, while Voslajer nailed 14. Waczynski finished the game with 25 points in the losing case. Pamula netted 15, whilst Wojciechowski collected 12 points and 10 boards.

Holland - Sweden 71-69
Charlon Kloof (188-G-90) made a jump shot with 2 seconds in the game for 71:69 victory over Sweden. His Netherlands U20 advanced to the Final of U20 European Championship in Division B with an important victory. That was a real thriller from the beginning until the end in the game. It goes without saying that both teams deserved the Final, however only one of them could step into it. After three stunning quarters, the teams also remained even in the end of the game. Nagwere made 64:61 with less than three minutes in the game. Lindell reduced to 64:62 and Koenis posted for 66:62. Again Nagwere brought his team to 66:64 after two free throws. Charlon Kloof replied with the same superiority from the line giving his team 68:64 with one minute and a half. He posted only one after Ryan's shot for 69:66 with 24 seconds in the game and Ryan tied the score at 69:69. Charlon Kloof however made a jump shot with 2 seconds in the game for 71:69 victory over Sweden. Van Der List top-scored for the winners with 23 points. Charlon Kloof nailed 16, while Voorn posted 11. Nagwere ended up with 20 points for the Swedish side and Ryan scored 18.


Div. B Day: 6 (Qualifying Round) - Jul. 23, 2009 

Group E


Poland - Georgia 71-62
Poland overwhelmed Georgia to remain undefeated at the U20 European Championship in Division B. The victory marked the fifth straight success for a Tomasz Jankowski team. They secured the semifinal birth at the tournament. Georgia slipped at 1-2 record narrowly missed the semifinal stage. Georgia will now play for the 5th-8th spot. Piotr Pamula (196-G-90) notched 18 points to pace Poland. Jakub Wojciechowski added 12 points and 9 rebounds, while Adam Waczynski had 11 points in the win. Levan Shengelia finished with 20 points for Georgia. Richard Matiashvili top-scored with 21 points and 7 rebounds for the losing team.

Finland - Sweden 47-70
Sweden and Finland finish the U20 Qualifying Round at the European Championship. Sweden beat Finland 70:47 in the last game of Group E to tie both records at 1-2. Christopher Ryan (196-G-90) paced all the winners with 17 points for the initial victory. Omar Zaghden nailed 14, while Francis Odada netted 12. Matias Ojala and Miska Ahokas ended up with 8 points each in the losing effort.

Group F


Austria - Czech Republic 71-83
Czech Republic U20 kept Austria winless in Group F of the U20 Qualifying Round at the European Championship. Czech Republic U20 overcame the opponents 83:71 in the last game of the group. David Jelinek (194-G-90, agency: PPGroup) top-scored for the winners with 17 points for 2-1 record. Tomas Voslajer ended up with 15, while Michal Palat and Jiri Slavik added 11 each. Rasid Mahalbasic delivered 25 points in the losing effort, whilst Thomas Csebits notched 12.

FYR Macedonia - Holland 67-91
Netherlands U20 won Group F of the U20 European Championships in Skopje. The Dutch team overcame the hosts to leave them out of the semis. Jesse Voorn (193-G-90, agency: R.H.Consultancy) top-scored for the winners with 24 points to get 3-0 record. Thomas Koenis scored 18 and Ewoud Kloos added 12. Bojan Krstevski finished the night with 21 points for the hosts that dropped to 1-2. Ivica Dimcevski netted 11, while Petrucev had 10. Czech Republic U20 became the second team to advance to the semifinals from the group.

Group G


Luxembourg - Norway 54-78
Norwegian U20 National Team completed the classification round in Group G of the European Championship in Division B with win. The victory over Luxembourg propelled the team to 2-0 record in the pool as Norway clinched the top spot. They will now play for the 9th-12th position at the tournament. Luxembourg lost the second straight game at this stage and remained at the bottom of the ladder. Roy Nwachukwu (192-F-90) tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds for Norway. Magne Fivelstad added 16 points and 7 boards, while Stian Enge had 15 points for the winners. Christophe Laures responded with 13 points for Luxembourg. Christopher Jones canned 9 points in defeat.

Group H


Bulgaria - Portugal 89-64
Bulgaria managed the second straight win at the U20 European Championship in Division B classification round. They routed Portugal to clinch the top spot in Group H. Bulgaria will now play for the 9th-11th position at the tournament. Portugal suffered the second defeat in the pool action and remained at the bottom of the ladder. Aleksandar Georgiev (198-F-90) scored 16 points and grabbed 6 boards for Bulgaria. Tsvetelin Ivanov and Stanislav Vaklinov netted 14 points each in the win. Diogo Correia tallied 16 points for Portugal. Andre Pereira posted 12 points in defeat.

Group I

Romania - Hungary 48-95
Hungary clinched the second position at the U20 European Championship in Division B Group I. They rolled past Romania today. Hungary will now play for the 13th-15th spot at the tournament. Romania will try to gain the 16th place in Skopje. Gergely Somogyi (218-C-89) finished with game-high 23 points and 14 rebounds. Domonkos Kovacs added 15 points, while Mate Mohacsi netted 11 points in the victory. Rolland Torok responded with 12 points and 12 boards for Romania. Andrei Bercean had 11 points in the losing effort.


Div. B Day: 5 (Qualifying Round) - Jul. 22, 2009 

Group E


Georgia - Finland 59-68
Finland beat Georgia to tie the records at 1-1 in Skopje. The Scandinavian team overcame the opponents 68:59 in the second game of the Group E Qualifying Round. Sami Ikavalko (186-G-89) top-scored for the winners with 23 points for 1-1 record. Nuutinen and Lehtoranta followed them with 13 points each in a win. Shengelia ended up with 19 points in the losing effort, Tsivtsivadze had 16 and Tomaradze added 10.

Sweden - Poland 63-73
Poland U20 improved to 2-0 record at the U20 European Championship in Division B. The team overcame Sweden 73:63 in Skopje, Group E. Pamula paced all the winners with 18 points for the winners. Jakub Wojciechowski (211-C-90) collected 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Waczynski added 13. Nagwere ended up with 14 points in defeat as Sweden dropped at 0-2. Nystrom nailed 13 points and Ryan posted 11.

Group F

Czech Republic - FYR Macedonia 91-69
Czech Republic U20 tied the records in Group F after the win over Macedonia U20. Czech Republic beat the hosts of the U20 European Championship in Division B 91:69. David Jelinek (194-G-90, agency: PPGroup) top-scored for the winners with 24 points for 1-1 record. Harcar ended up with 20 points and Hruban added 13. Dimcevski delivered 22 points in the losing effort, Krstevski had 15 and Simonovski chipped in 11.

Holland - Austria 67-62
Netherlands U20 won another game of the Classification Round in Macedonia to win the group. The Dutch team produced 67:62 over Austria in Group F for the top place. Stefan Mladenovic (187-G-90) top-scored for the winners with 16 points for 2-0 record. Voorn nailed 13, whilst Kloos posted 12. Mahalbasic ended up with 21 points and Schranz added 16.

Group G

Switzerland - Luxembourg 76-66
Switzerland U20 tied their record at 1-1 in Group G of U20 European Championship in Division B. The team overcame Luxembourg U20 76:66 as the latter dropped at 0-1. Christophe Varidel (185-G-89) led the way with 22 points. Albrecht ended up with 16 points, while Garruti finished the night with 11. Jones erupted with 26 points and 11 boards in the losing case and Wilson notched 9.

Group H

United Kingdom - Bulgaria 69-85
Bulgaria won their first game in the Classification Round and will have a chance to win the group if they win the second game tomorrow. Hristo Zahariev (197-G/F-90) and Georgiev too good for Great Britain as Bulgaria won 85:69 at the U20 European Championship in Division B. Hristo Zahariev top-scored for the winners with 27 points and Georgiev added 25. Kyosev ended up with 14 points as Bulgaria is 1-0. Neighbour finished the night with 18 points in the losing effort. Treasure nailed 16, while Lawrence scored 13 as their team finished the group with 1-1 record.

Group I

Slovakia - Romania 83-67
Slovak Republic U20 outscored Romania U20 to win Group I in the Classification Round. Slovak Republic U20 won over Romania U20 83:67 for 2-0 record. Stanislav Baldovsky (190-F-89) led the way with 22 points for the winners. Dorazil collected 19 points and 13 boards, whilst Hoferica had 13. Bercean ended up with 20 points in the losing case as Romania will play for the initial victory again Hungary tomorrow. Torok had 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Gutoaia posted 13.


Div. B Day: 4 (Classification Round) - Jul. 21, 2009 

Portugal - United Kingdom 56-62

Great Britain U20 team celebrated the initial success at the European Championship in Division B. A Tim Lewis outfit held off Portugal at the start of the Classification Round in Group H. The victory propelled Great Britain on top of the pool. Tyrone Treasure (193-G) scored 16 points to pace Great Britain. Benjamin Mockford added 15 points, while William Neighbour netted 11 points in the win. Joao Soares replied with 15 points for Portugal. Joao Guerreiro netted 11 points and collected 9 rebounds in the losing effort.

Hungary - Slovakia 80-94
Slovak Republic U20 overcame Hungary U20 in the opening game of Group I in the Classification Round. Slovakia improved to 1-0 record after 94:80 victory in the U20 European Championship. Richard Grznar was unstoppable with 32 points. Lukas Hoferica (200-C-89) nailed 14, while Hasan added 13. Mate Medve ended up with 20 points in the losing effort, Toth posted 16 and Keller had 11. Tomorrow Slovakia will face Romania, while Hungary will have a day-off.

Norway - Switzerland 78-74
Norwegian U20 team outgunned their Swiss counterparts in Skopje. The teams opened the classification round at the European Championship in Division B. Norway jumped to 1-0 record in Group G. Nicolai Oestbye (187-G-89) finished with 24 points to lead Norway. Stian Mjoes had 11 points, while Aksel Bolin netted 9 points for the winners. Ian Savoy delivered 18 points for Switzerland. Christophe Varidel added 17 points in the losing effort.


Div. B Day: 3 (Preliminary Round) - Jul. 20, 2009

Group B

United Kingdom - Poland 67-84
Poland U20 remained perfect in Macedonia at the U20 European Championship in Division B. The team won Group B with 3-0 record after 84:67 win over Great Britain U20. Adam Waczynski (199-F-89, agency: AB Agency) top-scored for the winners with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Wojciechowski nailed 17, while Czyz notched 12. Treasure and Mockford delivered 11 points each in the losing effort. Great Britain U20 lost all three games and will play in the Classification Round.

Finland - Norway 87-81
Finland U20 reached the second victory at the U20 European Championship as they cruised past Norway U20. Finland improved to 2-1 record after 87:81 victory. Antti Kanervo (193-G/F-89) top-scored for the winners with 19 points for 2-1 record. Ahokas netted 18, whilst Nuutinen collected 13 points and 9 rebounds. Stien ended up with 25 points in defeat. Mjoes posted 18, whilst Nwachukwu had 16 points and 9 boards.

Group C

Czech Republic - Holland 72-80
Netherlands U20 became the leader of Group C of the U20 European Championship in Division B. The team handed Czech Republic U20 the first 80:72 loss to remain undefeated. Jesse Voorn (193-G-90, agency: R.H.Consultancy) top-scored for the winners with 17 points for 3-0 record. Koenis collected 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Kloof had 14. Jelinek finished the game with 20 points and Harcar added 16.

Switzerland - Romania 84-71
Switzerland U20 overcame Romania U20 in the last game of the Preliminary Round to advanced to the Qualifying Round of U20 European Championship in Division B. Switzerland U20 cruised past Romania U20 84:71 to send them to the Classification Round. Christophe Varidel (185-G-89) paced all the winners with 22 points for 1-2 record. Albrecht collected 21 points and 11 rebounds, whilst Waldesbuhl added 12. Bercean notched 19 points in the losing effort and Torok had 17 points and 10 boards.

Group D

FYR Macedonia - Bulgaria 62-92
The hosts advanced from the top place even after 62:92 loss from Bulgaria in the last game of the Preliminary Round. The latter celebrated the initial victory however could not make it to the Qualifying Round. Hristo Zahariev (197-G/F-90) paced all the winners with 13 points for 1-2 record. Georgiev nailed 11, while Iliev had 10. Petar Apcev top-scored for the hosts with 21 points as they won the group with 2-1 record. Petrusev and Krstevski followed him with 8 points apiece.

Hungary - Austria 48-74
Austria U20 demolished Hungary U20 on Monday in Macedonia. Austria produced 74:48 at the U20 European Championship in Division B. Alexander Heuberger (201-F/C-89) paced all the winners with 15 points for 2-1 record. Janisch netted 12, while Csebits and Mahalbasic added 8 each. Toth Gergely ended up with 10 in defeat, while Toth had 8.

Sweden - Portugal 63-60
Sweden improved to 3-0 record after 63:60 over Portugal on July 19th. Anton Gaddefors (193-G-89) top-scored for the winners with 14 points and Odada Francis netted 12. Silva Jaime ended up with 15 points in the losing effort as Portugal is 2-2.

Slovakia - Georgia 67-85
Georgia celebrated the second victory on July 19th for 2-1 record in Group A. Tornike Shengelia (207-G/F-91) led the way with 24 points over Slovakia in a 85:67 victory. Metreveli Nika nailed 13 points and Tomaradze Konstantine added 12. Hasan Juraj delivered 14 points in the losing case.

Georgia - Luxembourg 88-53
Georgia posted the first win at the U20 European Championship in Division B. They outclassed Luxembourg in preliminary Group A in Skopje, Macedonia. The loss sent Luxembourg at 1-2 record. Nika Metreveli nailed 18 points to lead Georgia. Konstantine Tomaradze (197-G-90) and Levan Shengelia had 15 points each for the winning side. Luc Kartheiser netted 10 points for Luxembourg. Christopher Jones added 8 points in the losing case.

Portugal - Slovakia 92-64
Portugal U20 edged Slovak Republic U20 92:64 in the last game of Saturday at the U20 European Championship in Division B. After the loss from Luxembourg, Portugal exploded with 92:64 for 2-1 record in Group A. Jaime Silva (187-G-80) nailed 19 points and Jose Soares added 18 for the winners. Cristovao Cordeiro and Nuno Oliveira notched 11 for the positive record. Lukas Hoferica tallied 13 points in defeat, whilst Juraj Hasan and Richard Grznar chipped in 11 apiece.

Poland - Norway 81-52
Polish U20 team posted the second consecutive victory at the European Championship in Division B. They held off Norway to jump to 2-0 record in preliminary Group B. Norway lost the first game in Skopje and slipped at 1-1 record. Piotr Pamula (196-G-90) nailed 17 points to pace Poland. Tomasz Snieg added 15 points, while Aleksander Czyz had 12 points and 7 boards in the win. Aksel Bolin replied with 16 points and 8 rebounds for Norway. Roy Nwachukwu netted 10 points in the loss.

United Kingdom - Finland 74-82
Finnish U20 team celebrated the first win at the European Championship in Division B. Matias Ojala (196-F-89) scored 19 points to help Finland prevail against Great Britain in preliminary Group B. Great Britain in the meantime slipped at 0-2 record. Antti Kanervo and Roope Ahonen notched 17 points apiece to lead Finland. Lehtoranta had 8 points in the victory. William Neighbour responded with 18 points for Great Britain. Benjamin Mockford and Andrew Lawrence netted 15 points each in the loss.

Group C

Switzerland - Czech Republic 42-92
Czech Republic made it look easy rallying to the second straight win at the U20 European Championship in Division B. They overwhelmed Switzerland to climb on top of preliminary Group C. Switzerland slipped at 0-2 record. David Jelinek (194-G-90, agency: PPGroup) posted 12 points to pace Czech Republic. Jan Spacek and Tomas Voslajer added 11 points each for the winning team. Abdoulrahman Khachkarah responded with 9 points for Switzerland. Christophe Varidel netted 8 points in the losing case.

Romania - Holland 45-71
Netherlands ensured the birth in the Qualifying Round of the U20 European Championship in Division B. They held off Romania for the second straight win in preliminary Group C today. Romania slipped at 0-2 record and would face Switzerland for the initial win at the tournament. Jesse Voorn (193-G-90, agency: R.H.Consultancy) and Hieronymus Van Der List scored 12 points each for Netherlands. Charlon Kloof added 10 points in the winning case. Andras Stretea answered with 9 points for Romania. Rolland Torok nailed 8 points in the loss.

FYR Macedonia - Hungary 68-66
Macedonian U20 team grabbed the second win at the European Championship in Division B. They narrowly defeated Hungary in Skopje to stay on top of Group D. Hungary in the meantime slipped at 1-1 record. Marko Simonovski tallied 23 points and 10 rebounds to pace the hosts of the tournament. Ivica Dimcevski (192-G-89) chipped in 13 points and collected 6 boards for Macedonia. Vladimir Dikovski added 9 points in the victory. Gergely Toth answered with 13 points for Hungary. Mate Medve finished with 11 points in defeat.

Bulgaria - Austria 53-55
Austria U20 celebrated the first victory in Group D of two winless teams before the game with Bulgaria. After the losses in the openers of the U20 European Championship in Division B, Austria grabbed 55:53 win. Austria needed 12-0 finish to seal the victory in Macedonia. Rasid Mahalbasic (207-F/C-90) collected 13 points and 12 rebounds for the winner. Thomas Csebits finished the game with 12, whilst Moritz Lanegger posted 11. Bozhidar Avramov and Konstandin Marshavelski ended up with 10 points apiece for Bulgaria.

Slovakia - Sweden 74-80
Sweden U20 upset Slovak Republic team in their opener of U20 European Championship. The Scandinavian team improved to 2-0 record after 80:74 victory. Christopher Ryan (196-G-90) paced all the winners with 25 points and Gaddefors added 16. Francis Odada and Hartman finished the game with 10 points apiece. Stanislav Baldovsky delivered 17 points in defeat, while Richard Grznar notched 15.

Luxembourg - Portugal 86-67
Christopher Jones (184-F-90) nailed 38 points and grabbed 8 rebounds as his Luxembourg U20 outscored Portugal U20 today in Macedonia. The U20 European Championship registered 86:67 victory for Luxembourg U20 as both teams are tied at 1-1. Christopher Jones was unstoppable with 38 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Schwartz netted 12, while Birenbaum posted 10. Cordeiro and Oliveira ended up with 11 points in the losing effort.

Portugal - Georgia 78-75
Portuguese U20 National Team earned the first win at the European Championship in Division B. They faced Georgia in the opener today and claimed a narrow hard-fought win. Portugal nearly wasted a comfortable 22-point halftime advantage in the second half before turning out eventual winners. Jose Silva finished with 22 points for Portugal. Jose Soares added 16 points, while Antonio Monteiro (202-F/C-89) finished with 12 points and 7 boards in the win. Tornike Shengelia had game-high 24 points and 9 rebounds for Georgia. Swedish U20 Team opened the European Championship in Division B with victory. They faced Luxembourg in Group A in Skopje. The game turned into a one-way traffic to celebrate a comfortable win at the end. Anton Gaddefors knocked down 23 points to pace Sweden. Richard Hartman added 13 points, while Omar Zaghden and Christopher Ryan had 12 points each for the winners. Christopher Jones responded with 11 points for Luxembourg. Pitt Koster netted 10 points in defeat.

Group B
Finland - Poland 65-67
Poland grabbed the first win at the U20 European Championship in Division B. They dramatically edged Finland in Skopje today. Jaroslaw Mokros (202-F-90) became the hero of the day for Poland as he drained a three-pointer late in the game to propel Poland to the victory. Jakub Wojciechowski scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Poland. Tomasz Snieg and Jaroslaw Mokros added 11 points each for the winners. Matti Nuutinen responded with 16 points for Finland. Roope Ahonen had 15 points in the loss.

Norway - United Kingdom 71-59
Norway and Great Britain clashed in the U20 European Championship in Division B opener for both team. Norway came out winners claiming the first win at the tournament. Anders Stien (195-G-90) scored 19 points to pace Norway. Stian Mjoes added 15 points, while Nicolai Oestbye had 12 points in the winning effort. Benjamin Mockford responded with 20 points for Great Britain. Andrew Lawrence delivered 14 points in defeat.

Group C
Czech Republic - Romania 79-74
David Jelinek (194-G-90, agency: PPGroup) led Czech Republic U20 over Romania U20 in the opener of Group C. His team won 79:74 at the start of U20 European Championship in Division B. David Jelinek was unstoppable with 29 points, while Pavel Harcar scored 12 and Tomas Pomikalek added 9. Andrei Bercean delivered 21 points in defeat. Rolland Torok nailed 18, whilst Adrian Gutoaia chipped in 16 points.

Holland - Switzerland 91-56
Netherlands U20 thrashed Switzerland U20 91:56 in the second game of the first day in Greece. The Dutch team opened U20 European Championship in Division B with a victory for 1-0 record. Jesse Voorn (193-G-90, agency: R.H.Consultancy) led the way with 19 points, while Van Der List added 18. Ewoud Kloos followed them with 11 points in a win. Christophe Varidel chipped in 16 points, while Albrecht notched 15.

Group D
Hungary - Bulgaria 81-75
Hungary U20 celebrated the first victory at the U20 European Championship in Division B. Trailing 12 point after the first quarter, the team bounced back and overcame Bulgaria U20 81:75. Gergely Somogyi (218-C-89) top-scored for the winners with 14 points for the initial victory. Andras Helmeczi and Toth followed him with 12 points apiece. Aleksandar Yanev finished the game with 15 points in defeat and Tihomir Zhelev posted 13.

Austria - FYR Macedonia 70-78
Macedonia overcame Austria in the first game at the European Championship in Division B. Macedonia entered the tournament as the hosts and lived up to the highest expectations of the home fans that supported the team in Skopje. Marko Simonovski (190-G-89) scored 19 points to lead Macedonia to the initial win. Ivica Dimcevski knocked down 18 points for Macedonia. Nanchevski added 11 points in the winning case. Moritz Lanegger responded with 18 points for Austria. Rasid Mahalbasic had 13 points and 9 rebounds in defeat.
