Czech Republic - Greece 47-88
Greece coasted past Czech Republic in the opener. Dionysis Skoulidas (200-PF-97) recorded 12 points to lead the effort. Greece accumulated a 56:32 halftime advantage. Greece limited their opponents to just 15 points in the second half and raced to the win. Theodor Dlugos (183-PG-97) answered with 11 points for Czech Republic.

Sweden - Germany 72-66
Sweden held off Germany at the start of the championship. Simon Birgander (211-F/C-97, agency: Dynamics Global Management) provided 19 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Sweden secured a narrow 31:30 halftime lead. They buried 41 points in the second half and secured the winning outcome. Nils Johansson (198-SG-97) provided 15 points for the winners. Leon Kratzer (210-C-97) responded with 14 points for Germany.

Group B
Montenegro - Turkey 73-69 OT
Montenegro outgunned Turkey in overtime in opener. Milos Popovic (197-PF-98) scored 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Balkan team. Turkey jumped to a 16:11 lead after the first period. But Montenegro surged ahead for a 29:27 halftime advantage. Turkey managed to force overtime but surrendered at the end. Filip Bakic (193-G-97) tossed in 16 points in the victory. Berkan Durmaz (205-F-97) responded with 20 points and 10 boards for Turkey.

Iceland - France 50-58
France overcame Iceland to ensure the winning start in Group B. Amine Noua (202-PF-97, agency: BeoBasket) produced 12 points and 9 boards to pace the charge. les Bleues claimed a 22:17 halftime advantage. They followed with a 20:14 run in the fourth period to seal the win. Gauthier Denis (201-SF-97) netted 11 points for the winners. Tryggvi Hlinason (215-C-97) responded with 16 points and 15 rebounds for Iceland.

Group C
Israel - Latvia 90-54
Israel coasted past Latvia for the opening victory at the tournament. Yovel Zoosman (199-G/F-98) scored 23 points to lead the effort. Israel piled up a 45:32 halftime advantage. They went on a 30:9 run in the third quarter to build an unassailable lead. Tamir Blatt (180-PG-97) accounted for 18 points and 10 assists for the winning side. Roberts Blumbergs (204-F/C-97) responded with 11 points for Latvia.

Ukraine - Lithuania 79-92
Lithuania outgunned Ukraine in Group C opener. Laurynas Birutis (213-C/F-97) sank 27 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the effort. Lithuania erupted for 57 points in the first half to pile up a 17-point lead. Ukraine narrowed the deficit in the second half but could not avoid the loss. Martynas Echodas (204-C/F-97) delivered 22 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk (203-G-97) answered with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Ukraine.

Group D
Italy - Serbia 69-77
Serbia overcame Italy to open win count in Group D. Vanja Marinkovic (198-SG-97, agency: BeoBasket) came up with 30 points and 6 rebounds in the win. Serbia accumulated a 45:31 halftime advantage. The teams traded baskets throughout the third term. The Azzurri managed to narrow the gap in the fourth period but could not rescue the game. Borisa Simanic (209-PF-98, agency: BeoBasket) had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. David Okeke (202-F/C-98, agency: Interperformances) answered with 20 points for Italy.

Slovenia - Spain 59-91
Spain cruised past Slovenia at the start of the championship. Santiago Yusta (200-F/G-97) netted 17 points for the winning side. Spain accumulated a 47:30 halftime lead. They added 44 points in the second half and marched to the win. Ramon Vila (202-C-97) chipped in 14 points for Spain. Zan Mark Sisko (189-PG-97, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 15 points for Slovenia.

FINAL Greece - Israel 65-56 Greece celebrated Gold in Crete. The Hellenes prevailed against Israel to clinch the title. Antonios Koniaris (196-PG-97) came up with 15 points to lead the champions. Israel silenced the home crowd with a 16:9 start to the game. But Greece quickly picked up the tempo. The Hellenes went on a 17:7 run in the second term to gain a 26:23 halftime lead.
