2013 EuroBasket Qualifications begin tomorrow - Jun 11, 2012

Everything is set for the beginning of 2013 EuroBasket Qualifications. 25 teams will fight for 10 spots. There are five groups with five teams in each pool. Two best teams from each group will advance to EuroBasket Final Tournament in France. Croatia, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Russia, Turkey and France directly qualified for the final tournament. Qualifications begin tomorrow. In the opening game Latvia will host Italy at 19:30h. Nine more games will be played on Wednesday. After that, teams will play again June 16 and June 20. Last round (10) of the Qualifications is scheduled for July 14.

Slovak Republic confirm American naturalized Erin Marie Lawless (185-F-85, agency: LBM Management, college: Purdue) to participate at Eurobasket 2013.The team will be awaiting her over this weekend.

In 2008-2009 she moved to BK 99 PU Presov (Slovakia-Extraliga, starting five), and in Feb.'09 moved to Maxima Broker Kosice (Slovakia-Extraliga, starting five). In 32 games she became the top-scorer with 18.9ppg, 6.9rpg, 1.2apg, 2.3spg, FGP: 42.0%, 3PT: 33.7%, FT: 81.9%. In 2009-2010 for Dobri Anjeli Kosice (Slovakia-Extraliga, starting five) she debuted in Euroleague and had 6.8ppg, 2.3rpg, 1.0apg. In Slovakian League she became the fifth top-scorer with 15.2ppg, 6.8rpg, 1.1apg, 1.0spg, 2FGP: 36.4%, 3PT: 40.2%, FT: 79.0%. In 2010-2011 continued with Dobri Anjeli Kosice (Extraliga) and averaged 3.7ppg, 1.2rpg in EuroLeague, while in Slovakian League showed 10.4ppg, 4.6rpg, 1.1apg, 2FGP: 59.4%, 3PT: 28.6%, FT: 85.2%. The season 2011-2012 her stats read 8.5ppg, 4.2rpg, FGP: 41.1%, 3PT: 42.6%, FT: 65.0% in EuroLeague and in Slovakian League she averaged 10.9ppg, 4.5rpg, 1.5spg, FGP: 57.5%, 3PT: 27.1%, FT-3 (86.4%). Last year Erin Marie Lawless became Eurobasket.com Slovakian Extraliga All-Domestic Players Team -10, 12 and Eurobasket.com All-Slovakian Extraliga Honorable Mention -12. In 2012-2013 played for Dynamo Kursk (Russia-PBL) but showed only 2.6ppg, 2.8rpg. In EuroCup her stats read 5.3ppg, 2.0rpg, 1.0spg.

Anna De Forge (178-SG-76, agency: Josep and Nicolas, college: Nebraska) confirmed her presence to the Montenegrins at EuroBakset 2013 in France. The player will help the team in the top event of the year.

Standard Life GB Senior Women's Basketball head coach, Damien Jennings , has announced a preliminary squad of 20 players for EuroBasket Women 2013. The lineup includes a blend of experience from players in the 2012 Olympic squad as well as some fresh young talent, all of whom will gather for the first time since London in training camp at Surrey Sports Park. Five of GB's best youth players have been selected for the first time specifically with an eye to 2020, including Ella Clark (190-F-92), Renee E. Busch (175-G-92), Christina Gaskin (185-F-93), Cheridene Green (187-C-95) and Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby. In another first, two of these players, Clark and Gaskin, are graduates from the Regional Institute of Basketball at Barking Abbey and are among the seven Future aged players named in the squad. Jo Leedham, who stepped up for GB and shone during the London Games, has once again been selected in the preliminary squad. During the Olympic campaign, Leedham was joint top in points per game with an impressive 16.2 average earning her nomination for 'British Basketball's Athlete of the Year'. At her current side, Bourges Basket she helped the team secure third place in the Euroleague Women Final Eight with some impressive offensive rebounding. The squad will assemble on 4 May 2013 to commence their preparations for the summer ahead where they face a tough EuroBasket challenge against Olympic silver medallists, France, Serbia and Latvia for their first round games at the tournament. GB women's head coach, Damian Jennings commented on his selection: "The EuroBasket creates a great test for us post Olympics and we have been able to select a real blend of experience and youthful talent. "With the early timing of EuroBasket there will always be challenges but all the GB performance staff are looking forward to working with the selected squad and preparing for this great summer ahead."
