Montenegrin National Team ensured the European Championship in Division A birth.
They prevailed against Portugal in the second game of the playoff series to book
the desired ticket to the top division of European basketball. Portugal fought
bravely and gave some scares to the hosts before Montenegro pulled away to the
win late in regulation.
Jelena Dubljevic (192-C-87) knocked down 17 points to pace Montenegro. Milka
Bjelica added 14 points, while Iva Perovanovic had 12 points and 7 boards in the
winning effort. Sonia Reis and Paula Muxiri nailed 18 points each for Portugal.
Joana Lopes netted 13 points in defeat.
Sweden - Holland
60-60
Sweden could not overcome Netherlands at home court tonight opening the road to
Division A for the Dutch team.
Leonie Kooij (187-F-86) scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to ensure a
tie game that proved just all right for Netherlands to advance to the Division A
of the European basketball.
Naomi Halman (191-F/C-86, college:
Cal-Irvine) netted 17 points and collected 11 boards for the visitors. Frida
Eldebrink had 14 points and 7 boards for Sweden. Elin Eldebrink and Louice
Halvarsson chipped in 10 points apiece for the home team.

5, 2009 Portugal - Montenegro
53-61
Montenegro rolled to another straight victory in EuroBasket Women Division B and
it became the the first-leg victory away from home. The favorites outscored
Portugal 61:53 to step closer to Division A Promotion.
Iva
Perovanovic (191-C/F-83) paced all the winners with 14 points and Dubljevic
Jelena netted 13. Skerovic Jelena ended up with 12 points, whilst Bjelica Milka
scored 9. Ramalho Sofia poured in 16 points for the home side.
Holland - Sweden
67-59
Holland surprised Sweden and handed them their first loss this year. The Dutch
team won the first leg of the Play-offs for the Division A promotion 67:59 at
home.
Naomi Halman (191-F/C-86, college:
Cal-Irvine) was unstoppable with 24 points and Kooij Leonie scored 19.
Eldebrink Frida finished the night with 24 points for the Scandinavian team and
Halvarsson Louice added 14.

Ireland - Holland

Ireland wrapped up their EuroBasket in Division B campaign with win over
Netherlands. The Irish team held off their key opponents during the whole
tournament but could not overcome those in the ladder. Netherlands clinched the
second spot in the ladder and would fight against Sweden for the ticket to the
top division. Ireland finished in the third position in Group A at 6-4 record.
Michelle Aspell (168-G-75) poured in 18 points for Ireland. Susan Moran and
Lindsay Peat contributed 13 points each in the winning case. Marie Hoogstraten
and Leonie Kooij produced 12 points each for Netherlands. Naomi Halman had 10
points and 6 boards in the loss.
Slovenia - Switzerland
65-72
Switzerland prevailed against Slovenia in the final game of the group stage at
the European championship in Division B. The Swiss finished the tournament at
2-8 record in Group A. Slovenia slipped at 3-7 record in the fourth position in
the table.
Karen Twehues (182-G-83, college:
Cincinnati) knocked down 23 points to pace Switzerland. Lia Volpe added 11
points in the winning charge. Tjasa Gortnar nailed 16 points for Slovenia.
Kristina Verbole chipped in 12 points in the losing case.
Iceland - Montenegro

Iceland were not able to stop Montenegro in their EuroBasket in Division B
impressive run. Montenegro registered the tenth straight win and finished the
action in Group A undefeated. Montenegro will now take on Portugal in the battle
for Division A place. Iceland finished at 2-8 record in the pool.
Jelena Dubljevic (192-C-87) tallied 20 points and 7 boards for Montenegro.
Jelena Skerovic added 13 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. Helena
Sverrisdottir produced 23 points for Iceland. Birna Valgarsdottir contributed 18
points and 8 boards in the loss.

Luxembourg - Estonia

Estonia capped their European Championship in Division B campaign with win. They
outgunned Luxembourg on the road to claim the third place in Group B. Estonia
finished at 2-4 record, while Luxembourg posted no victories losing six games in
a row.

Management) fired 20 points for Estonia. Viive-Kai Rebane added 19 points
and 11 boards for the winning team. Tessy Hetting scored 15 points for
Luxembourg. Haentges had 14 points and 10 rebounds in defeat.

Championship in Division B. They prevailed against Slovenia to remain perfect in

Montenegro. Hajdana Radunovic netted 14 points in the winning effort. Nika Baric

Netherlands celebrated the seventh victory at the EuroBasket in Division B. They
rallied past Switzerland in Neuchatel today.
Marlous Nieuwveen (195-C-80) nailed 16 points and grabbed 8 boards to pace
the visitors. Switzerland slipped at 1-8 record after the loss. Clara Van der
Hoek and Naomi Halman netted 14 points each for Netherlands. Karen Twehues
replied with 18 points and 8 rebounds for Switzerland. Marielle Giroud had 15
points and 9 caroms in the losing effort.
Iceland - Ireland

Iceland celebrated their second win in Division B Eurobasket Group A. The team
won over Ireland 77:68 in Hafnarfjordur for 2-7 record on the 5th position.
Ireland meanwhile dropped at 5-4. Valgardsdottir paced all the winners with 21
points and 11 rebounds.
Helena Sverrisdottir (185-G-88) shined with 14 points, 10 assists and 7
rebounds, while Hermannsdottir and Erlingsdottir notched 12 each.
Group B
Sweden - Luxembourg

Sweden posted the sixth straight win at the European Championship in Division B
campaign. They dismantled Luxembourg in Norrkoping to improve at 6-0 record in
Group B. Luxembourg on the other hand suffered the fifth straight defeat to
remain winless.

overcame Switzerland in Dublin today to remain close behind Netherlands in Group
A ladder. Switzerland slipped at 1-7 record after the defeat.
Susan Moran (178-F-80) tallied 19 points and 10 rebounds for Ireland. Niamh
Dwyer added 15 points in the winning effort. Karen Twehues responded with
game-high 24 points. Marielle Giroud had 20 points in the loss.

Montenegro stayed perfect in the EuroBasket in Division B campaign. They
overwhelmed Netherlands on the road to improve at 8-0 record on top of Group A.
Netherlands suffered the second loss and slipped at 6-2 just one win ahead of
Ireland.

Slovenia. Maja Erkic had 14 points, 6 assists and 4 boards in the win. Helena
Sverrisdottir came up with 19 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds for Iceland.

Luxembourg - Portugal

Portuguese team celebrated the second consecutive win at the EuroBasket in
Division B. They held off Luxembourg to improve at 4-2 record in Group B. The
home team suffered the fourth straight defeat and remained winless in the
tournament.
Sonia Reis (189-C-84) notched 23 points to pace Portugal. Paula Muxiri
provided 17 points and 11 boards for the winners. Jil Haentges responded with 13
points and 7 boards for Luxembourg. Michele Weynandt nailed 6 points in the
losing effort.
Estonia - Sweden

Sweden remained perfect in the European Championship in Division B qualifiers.
They eased past Estonia in Tallinn to improve at 5-0 record on top of Group B.
Estonia fell at 1-4 record after the defeat.

Georgia Tech) came off the bench to knock down 20 points and grab 6 boards
for Sweden. Katarina Andersson nailed 17 points and 7 boards for the winners.

Netherlands grabbed the 6th win in the European Championship in Division B. They
upset Iceland on the road to improve at 6-1 record in the second spot in Group
A. The Dutch team is now two wins ahead of Ireland. Iceland fell at 1-6 record
in the fifth position in the table.
Leonie Kooij (187-F-86) came up with 15 points and 8 boards for Netherlands.
Tanya Broring added 11 points and 7 assists, while Marie Hoogstraten had 10 in
the win. Helena Sverrisdottir responded with 19 points, 12 boards and 8 assists.
Hildur Sigurdardottir netted 10 points in defeat.
Slovenia - Ireland

Ireland remained in the hunt for the EuroBasket Division A birth. They overcame
Slovenia on the road today to improve at 4-3 record just one win behind
Netherland in Group A ladder. Slovenia meanwhile fell at 2-5 record in the
fourth spot in the pool.

Portugal made a huge step towards the playoffs of the EuroBasket in Division B
qualifiers. They defeated Estonia in Coimbra to improve at 3-2 record in Group
B. Estonia slipped at 1-3 record in the third place of the ladder.
Sonia Reis (189-C-84) was instrumental in the victory as she tallied 26
points and 8 boards for the hosts. Joana Lopes produced 12 points, while Paula
Muxiri added 11 in the victory. Viive-Kai Rebane answered with 13 points and 10

undefeated Montenegro. Slovenia fell at 2-4 record after the loss.

Marlous Nieuwveen (195-C-80) added 14 points and 11 boards for Netherlands.

B. Sabrina Dealbi knocked down a jumper with 7 seconds remaining in regulation
to propel the Swiss at the victory as they improved at 1-5 record in Group A.
Iceland on the other hand slipped at 1-5 record in the pool.

tonight.
