Israel snapped two-game losing skid and edged Germany for the first win in EuroBasket Group B. Richard Howell (203-C/F-90, college: N.Carolina St.) provided 23 points, 9 rebounds and 7 steals to pace the hosts in Tel Aviv.
Israel jumped to an early lead. The home team ensured a 23:18 lead at 10-point mark. But Germany replied with a 25-point effort in the second term to even things up at 43. Germany surged in front in the third quarter. The visitors enjoyed a massive 75:59 advantage early in the fourth term. But Israel refused to give in. The hosts ignited a massive 19:2 run to ensure a 78:77 lead. Daniel Theis (204-PF-92) and Dennis Schroeder (181-PG-93) gave Germany an 80:78 advantage with 50 seconds left in regulation. Guy Pnini (200-SF-83) responded with a huge three-pointer to give Israel an 81:80 lead with 28 seconds left. Gal Mekel followed with a free throw to boost the gap. Daniel Theis had a chance to win it for Germany but missed a three-pointer as Israel got away with a vital win. Omri Casspi (206-SF-88) provided 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Guy Pnini had 15 points in the victory. Dennis Schroeder replied with 20 points and 7 assists for Germany. Daniel Theis chipped in 15 points and collected 15 rebounds in the defeat.

NBA guard Goran Dragic(190-PG-86) has confirmed he is retiring from the Slovenia team that won the European basketball championship.
