Alba used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Brussels 86-79 on Wednesday night. The biggest surprise of round 2 in FIBA Europe Cup took place in Chalon where host French Chalon/Saor (2-0) beat Portuguese Benfica (1-1) 90-76 on Tuesday evening. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 90-76. Chalon/Saor outrebounded Benfica 38-27 including 23 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard John Roberson (180-88, college: Texas Tech) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 assists. The other American import swingman Cameron Clark (201-91, college: Oklahoma) chipped in 25 points and 8 rebounds. American-Hungarian forward Damian Hollis (203-88, college: G.Washington) produced 20 points and Angola-Portuguese guard Carlos Morais (200-85, agency: Duran International) added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Benfica will play next round against strong Basic-Fit Brussels trying to make it back to the top of the standings. We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Prienai where Lithuania Vytautas (1-0) outscored Romania Targu Mures (1-1) 99-61 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Vytautas. Targu Mures was better in third quarter 24-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vytautas dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Targu Mures' 36. They outrebounded Targu Mures 41-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. Vytautas looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Targu Mures' players. The best player for the winners was Vytenis Cizauskas (187-92) who scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Swingman Tomas Dimsa (195-94) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. Four Vytautas players scored in double figures. Latvia forward Ernests Kalve (200-87, agency: HMS) produced 17 points and Montenegrin point guard Goran Martinic (187-87) added 9 points and 7 assists respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Vytautas will face TLU/Kalev in Tallinn in the next round, which may be the game of the day.

Siauliai was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Nicosia 84-75 on Wednesday night. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Apoel forced 22 Siauliai turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Apoel especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. The best player for the winners was American swingman Akeem Wright (200-84, college: Kansas St.) who scored 23 points and 6 rebounds. The other American import guard Tre Bussey (190-91, college: Georgia South) chipped in 19 points and 5 assists. Wright is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Apoel players scored in double figures. Power forward Martynas Echodas (204-97) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds and Ghanian-American Asenso Ampim (203-88, college: Columbia, agency: Octagon Europe) added 7 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Apoel will face Tsmoki-Minsk at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Siauliai will play against BK Pardubice and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
