Semaine des As '08 : Cholet wins the '08 edition
Vichy-Cholet in the Semaine des As '08
Final Vichy-Cholet
(11-18, 6-9, 12-19, 11-21) 40-67
As expected, it's a defensive final,
with only 29pts scored in the first
quarter. The better start is for Cholet
and Claude Marquis, but William Gradit
scored 6 consecutive points in the
transition to give his team the lead.
Unfortunately, those were the last
points for Vichy before an eternity.
Although
Nando De Colo (195-G-87) was guarded
closely,Cholet had a lot of rythm in
offense (Dobbins, Wiggins) to make a 9-0
run and take the lead 18-11 after one
period.
The second period was worse, with only
15pts scored. Cholet, and especially
Alan Wiggins, are really guarding the
paint with efficiency. Vichy only shot 8
from 36 at half-time and as a
consequence scored 17 little points. A
10-pt gap in this type of game seems a
big deal to come back.
During the third period, Vichy managed
to find more offensive rythm with Wright
and Ball. However, Karangwa coudn't
throw a brick in the ocean in this game
and his team lacked the amount of points
he usually brings. Cholet, with a very
efficient Wiggins, wins this third
quarter 19-12 and is 10 far from a
'Semaine des As' title. A title that
brings a place in the ULEB Cup!
A last period of no interest, since
Cholet was controlling the game, lost
since a long moment by Vichy. The ProA
newcomers were just exhausted and
couldn't resist to a third game in 4
days. Cholet is the new Semaine des As
title holder, and the '08 MVP is Nando
de Colo, for his second trophy of the
year after the All-Star Game MVP award.
LNB All Star Game at Paris - Bercy French All-Stars - Import All-Stars 94:82
The All-Star Game took place in France as the selection
of the best French players took on the Import All-Stars.
The basketball show was traditionally preceded by the
number of contests. The annual show was tipped off by
the NikeID Challenge.
Jimmal Ball (178-G-78, college:
Akron) was once again the best in maneuvering with
the ball as he picked up the same trophy last year. The
three-point shootout was won by
Cedric Ferchaud (195-F-80) of Pau Orthez as he
registered 22 points out of 30 max. He surpassed
Yohann Sangare (193-G-83) in the final round of the
contest. Finally the most spectacular Dunks Contest saw
the battle of
Max Kougere (197-F-87) and Guy Dupuy, who was named
the best dunker in 2006. However this time
Max Kougere reigned the scene conquering the minds
of both spectators and judges. The main treat was served
later as the All-Star got under way in front of a
roaring crowd of 14,828 basketball fans at Palace
Omnisport de Paris Bercy. The French players got it
going from the start as
Nando De Colo (195-G-87) and
Cyril Julian (206-F/C-75, agency:
Octagon) nailed a couple of early jumpers.
Ricardo Greer (195-F/G-78, college:
Pittsburgh) answered with nice moves, while
Chevy Troutman (201-F-81, agency:
Octagon, college:
Pittsburgh) delivered in transition to keep the fans
on their feet. French All-Stars however built a 28:19
lead after the opening frame. The Import All-Stars
raised the tempo after the intermission and soon put
themselves up. The first half ended with the Import
All-Stars holding a narrow 47:45 advantage.
Yohann Sangare and
Alain Koffi (205-C-83) stepped up in the third
stanza to drag French team back on track as they once
again spurred ahead. The French All-Star team registered
a tiny 67:66 lead heading into the fourth period before
taking off for good. The shots were dropping from
everywhere for the hosts in the final term and French
All-Stars sealed a 94:82 victory at the end.
Nando De Colo was named the All-Star Game MVP as he
posted 13 points, 9 assists and 2 boards.
Cyril Julian topscored for the French All-Stars with
16 points and 8 boards, while
Yohann Sangare added 15 points for the winners.
Ricardo Greer nailed 20 points and dished out 3
assists for the Import All-Stars. Chevon
Chevy Troutman netted 18 points and grabbed 12
boards in defeat. French All-Stars:
Cyril Julian 16,
