In less than 2 weeks U20 Macedonian National Team lost yet another player making the total of 3 candidates who will not play for the team at the U20 European Championship Division B. Marko Simonovski (190-G-89, agency: Interperformances) twisted his left ankle at practice and will be out of action at least 10 days. And this is not the end of troubles for U20 Macedonia as their starting point guard Dimitar Petrusev (190-G-89) also got hurt, but he is expected to recover. Head Coach Emil Rajkovic says that as the days go by he is more and more dissatisfied with the injury situation, but he is still trying to get team focused at the task ahead. Team is getting ready to play several control matches against U20 Montenegro. Marko Simonovski is a product of Vodno Suns cadet team. Pure shooter signed his first professional contract in 2007 when he signed with Vardar Osiguruvanje. He was immediately loaned to Centar Skopje in Macedonian A-2 League. This season, Simonovski came back to Vardar and became member of staring five. Simonovski was a member of National Team at all younger categories. Last year he participated at European Championships U20 Division B in Romania. He played in 8 games, posting averages of 11.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists. U20 European Championship Division B will be held in Skopje from July 16th to July 26th. Macedonia has been drawn in Group D at the U20 European Championship. Their opponents in the group will be Austra, Hungary and Bulgara. Rajkovic stated that one of the main goals will to qualify from the group.
Macedonian International Gjorgi Cekovski (202-F/C-81, agency: Arik Krayn Services) will have to look for another club after decision by his current employer Ferro ZNTU from Ukraine. Reasoning for this is that the Ukrainian team has decided to let several foreign players go and Cekovski was one of them. Macedonian International Gjorgi Cekovski (202-F/C-81, agency: Arik Krayn Services) will have to look for another club after decision by his current employer Ferro ZNTU from Ukraine. Reasoning for this is that the Ukrainian team has decided to let several foreign players go and Cekovski was one of them. This is seen as cost cutting move due to the impact of global financial crisis. Ferro ZNTU Director Valerij Elkinosn, has stated that the team will turn to young Ukrainian players for next season, but has thanked Cekovski and other players for the effort they gave to the club. Cekovski spent second part of the season with Ferro, after signing with them from Feni Industri. He also confirmed that he will be leaving the Ukrainian outfit but that they went their separate ways in friendly manner. There are already several possible suitors for Cekovski so it seems that he will find a new club very soon. Gjorgi Cekovski signed his first professional contract with Godel Rabotniski Skopje in 2000. He spent 5 seasons with the club becoming teams best player. In his last season with Godel Rabotniski Skopje he played in FIBA Champions Cup averaging 14.2 points and 5.8 rebounds in 9 games. In 2003 he moved to Slovenia and signed with Geoplin Slovan Ljubljana. After only one season he moved to Lukoil Akademik with whom he won two cups and two titles in 2006 and 2007. Cekovski started this season with Feni Industri for whom he played 5 games in BIBL, posting averages of 13.0 points and 5.4r rebounds per game. In January 2009, he moved to Ferro-ZNTU playing 20 games in Ukrainian League and averaging 9.7 points and 5.1 rebounds while shooting 55.6% for two.

Macedonian National Team received bad news as their guard Vlado Ilievski (190-G-80, agency: World Sport Agency) will miss out on European Championship in Poland this year. Ilievski sustained the injury while playing for Tau Vitoria this season and he was forced to miss out the last two months. Still everyone was hopeful that he will be able to complete his rehab and that he will be ready to help Macedonian National Team at the Eurobasket [read more]

Ilievski sustained the injury while playing for Tau Vitoria this season and he was forced to miss out the last two months. After completing examinations conducted by the doctors of the National Team, Ilievski received further bad news that he will have to do a surgery. After the surgery Ilievski is facing 2-3 months of the rehabilitation again so he will definitely have to sit out the whole summer. Recently the reports came out that Tau Vitoria will not buy Ilievski as he played as loaned player, and he may be returning to Olimpija Ljubljana. Vlado Ilievski, a standard member of Macedonian National Team, has started his career with BC Partizan Belgrade. After three seasons with Partizan, Ilijevski moved to Olimpija in 2001. There he established himself as one of the teams best players. That season, Ilievski palyed in 20 Euroleague games in 2002, averaging 11.5 points per game. In 2003 he signed with Barcelona with whom he has won Spanish ACB Championship in 2004 as well as the Spanish ACB Supercup . Ilijevski also played in Italy with Lottomatica Roma and Montepaschi Siena before coming back to Olimpija in 2008. This season, Ilijevski started with Olimpija but in January he was loaned to Tau Vitoria. Still he could not make much impact at Tau because of the injury.
