Vlado Ilievski selected the top FYR Macedonian playing abroad in last week's games - Nov 16, 2012

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of FYR Macedonians who are currently playing abroad.

Vlado Ilievski
Vlado Ilievski
#1. This week's number one is an international point guard Vlado Ilievski (190-80, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Euroleague). He led his Croatian team Cedevita to a double overtime (!!!) victory against the leader Zalgiris (5-1) 108-106 in the Euroleague in Thursday night's game. Ilievski scored 16 points in 23 minutes on the court. KK Cedevita Zagreb (2-4) is placed fifth in group C. There are only four games left until the end of the Euroleague Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Ilievski's first season with the team. This year he averages: 6.0ppg, 3FGP: 46.7%(7-15) in the six games he played so far. Ilievski has a dual citizenship: FYR Macedonian and Slovenian. He is currently a member of the FYR Macedonian senior national team.

Pero Antic
Pero Antic
#2. Second place goes to an international forward Pero Antic (210-82, also represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Euroleague). Antic contributed to Olympiacos' victory against the closely-ranked Armani Milano (2-3) 84-71 in the Euroleague last Thursday. He scored 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Olympiacos S.F.P. Pireus (3-2) is placed third in group C. Antic's overall stats this season are: 5.2ppg, 3.8rpg, 2FGP: 35.7%, 3FGP: 14.3% and FT: 90.9%. He is another player who holds two passports: FYR Macedonian and Bulgarian. Antic is in the roster of the FYR Macedonian senior national team.

Predrag Samardziski
Predrag Samardziski
#3. The FYR Macedonian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Predrag Samardziski (215-86, another player represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Euroleague), who plays in Lithuania. He could not help Lietuvos rytas (1-5) to beat Besiktas (3-3). Samardziski scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 20 minutes. The sixth-placed Lietuvos rytas lost 67-73 at home to the higher-ranked (#3) Besiktas in the group D of Euroleague. It was Lietuvos rytas' third consecutive loss in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Euroleague Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This year Samardziski's overall stats are: 5.7ppg, 3.5rpg, 1.2bpg, 2FGP: 48.3% in the six games. He is also a member of the FYR Macedonian senior national team.

Marques Green
Marques Green
#4. Point guard Marques Green (167-82, college: St.Bonaventure, currently plays in Euroleague) is a teammate of previously mentioned Vlado Ilievski. But that was another game of his team in Euroleague which we would like to mention. Green contributed to Cedevita's victory against the closely-ranked Caja Laboral (1-4) 76-69. He scored 6 points and added 7 assists. KK Cedevita Zagreb (2-4) is placed fifth in group C. Green's total stats this season are: 6.5ppg, 1.5rpg, 4.7apg and 1.5spg. He is a naturalized American. Green used to play for the FYR Macedonian national team back in 2010. Strangely he has never played in FYR Macedonia.

Vojdan Stojanovski
Vojdan Stojanovski
#5. International guard Vojdan Stojanovski (194-87, currently plays in Eurocup), who plays in Ukraine was not able to help BC Donetsk (0-2) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his good performance BC Donetsk was defeated 72-68 on the road by the leading Galatasaray. Stojanovski was the second best scorer with 12 points. He also added 4 boards, dished 3 assists and stole 4 balls. There are only four games left until the end of the Eurocup Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Stojanovski has relatively good stats this season: 12.5ppg, 2.5rpg, 3.0apg and 2.0spg. He plays currently for the FYR Macedonian national team.

Jeremiah Massey
Jeremiah Massey
#6. Forward Jeremiah Massey (202-82, college: Kansas St., currently plays in EuroChallenge) managed to help Krasnie Krilya Samara in a 3-point victoryagainst the fourth-ranked Ploiesti (0-2) 79-76 in the EuroChallenge in Wednesday night's game. Massey scored only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 17 minutes. It was his first game for Krasnie Krilya this season. His team is placed first in group B. There are only four games left until the end of the EuroChallenge Regular Season. So now every game will be extremely important. Massey is a naturalized American. He is a former international player as he played for the FYR Macedonian senior team three years ago. Apparently Massey has never played in FYR Macedonia.

Bo McCalebb
Bo McCalebb
#7. International point guard Bo McCalebb (178-85, college: New Orleans, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to secure a victory for Fenerbahce Ulker (3-3) in their game against Cantu (2-4) in the Euroleague. He cannot count Thursday's game as one of the best ones. McCalebb scored only 3 points. Fenerbahce Ulker (#3) was crushed 82-58 on the opponent's court by the lower-ranked Cantu (#6) in the group A of Euroleague. McCalebb is currently fifth on the list of most steals. He has very reliable stats this season: 12.4ppg, 2.2rpg, 2.6apg and 1.8spg. McCalebb is a naturalized American. He is also FYR Macedonian national team player. Interesting that McCalebb has never played in FYR Macedonia.

Bojan Krstevski
Bojan Krstevski
#8. Power forward Bojan Krstevski (205-89, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Balkan League) couldn't help Kavala (2-2) in their game against Teodo Tivat (3-0) in the Balkan League. He cannot count Tuesday's game as one of the best ones. Krstevski scored only 2 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 23 minutes. Kavala was crushed 98-71 in Tivat by the higher-ranked (#6) Teodo. There are only four games left until the end of the Balkan League Regular Season. This year Krstevski's total stats are: 4.8ppg and 3.8rpg in the four games. He used to play for the FYR Macedonian U20 national team back in 2009.

The list of other players, who all have FYR Macedonian passport but never been selected to any of FYR Macedonian national teams:

#1. Cedi Osman (195-SG-95, currently plays in Turkey) led Pertevniyal to a victory over the closely-ranked Istanbul Buyuksehir Belediyesi (3-3) 90-71 in a derby game in the Turkish TB2L (second division) last Saturday. Osman was MVP of the game. He scored 29 points (!!!) and grabbed 8 rebounds in 34 minutes. Pertevniyal Istanbul (3-3) is placed eighth in the TB2L. It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Osman has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.0ppg, 3.0rpg, 1.2apg and 1.2spg in the six games he played so far. Osman has a dual citizenship: FYR Macedonian and Turkish. Despite his FYR Macedonian passport, Osman currently plays for the Turkish U18 national team and is not eligible to play for the FYR Macedonian team.

#2. Jovan Zdravevski (197-F-80, currently plays in Iceland) contributed to an easy victory against the ninth-ranked IR (2-4) crushing them 89-69 in the Icelandic Dominos League on Friday night. He scored 8 points in 21 minutes. Stjarnan (5-2) is placed third in the Dominos League. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Zdravevski is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fifth year in Stjarnan's roster. This season Zdravevski's total stats are: 8.8ppg, 2.5rpg and 2.0apg in the six games. He is another player who holds two passports: FYR Macedonian and Icelandic.

#3. Tomcho Sokolov (205-F/C-84, agency: Prossin Sports Management, currently plays in Turkey), who plays in the Turkish TB2L (second division) could not help Pi Koleji (3-3) to beat Istanbulspor (2-4). Sokolov scored only 4 points, had 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Pi Koleji was edged 77-74 on the road by the lower-ranked Istanbulspor (#14). But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Sokolov's total stats this season are: 9.2ppg, 5.8rpg and 1.2apg.

#4. Pance Ilievski (186-G-81, currently plays in Iceland) was not able to help KFI in their game against Thor Thorl (3-2) in the Icelandic Dominos League. Ilievski scored 7 points and added 3 passes. KFI was crushed 128-84 at home by the lower-ranked Thor Thorl (#6). Ilievski has been at the team for six years. He has averaged so far 5.2ppg, 1.5rpg, 2.3apg and 1.3spg.

Serbian Power forward Danilo Mijatovic (206-F/C-83) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Kumanovo, receiving a Player of the Week award for round 13. The 33-year old player was the main contributor (28 points, nine rebounds and three assists) to his team's victory, helping them to crush, the league's bottom-ranked team Vardar (#8, 0-13) with 17-point margin 86-69. Kumanovo maintains the 3rd position in FYR Macedonian Prva Liga. They would have been even...   [read more]

Prva Liga Round 13: No surprise as #1 Rabotnicki defeat Pelister Bitola - 17 hours ago
Prva Liga top team - Rabotnicki (11-2) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed sixth ranked Pelister Bitola (4-9) 95-60. The game was mostly controlled by Rabotnicki. Pelister Bitola managed to win fourth quarter 21-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Pelister Bitola 45-28 including a 36-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Rabotnicki looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to...   [read more]
The Start of Season 10! - 2 days ago
The season is here. It is season number ten for me. I am extremely excited. I started out with MZT Skopje it was a short stint. It included a triumphant supercup victory 87-84 which was my first supercup in my 10 year career. I'm excited about it but things didn't start out well in the ABA league so we both made changes. In the European basketball world things happen fast. You can be holding the trophy with your teammates one week and the next week you could be looking for a new job. Man...   [read more]
