Prva Liga Round 5: Kumanovo 2009 loses the game and top position - Nov 24, 2012

Coincidentally all hosts won their games.

There was a change at the Prva Liga leadership position after last games. Round 5 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Kumanovo 2009 (3-2). They were defeated by sixth ranked Fersped-Rabotnicki (3-2) 84-75 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Kumanovo 2009 was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 29-18 charge of Fersped-Rabotnicki, which allowed them to win the game. Fersped-Rabotnicki shot 31 for 43 from the free-throw line, while Kumanovo 2009 only scored eleven points from the stripe. 28 personal fouls committed by Kumanovo 2009 helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Serbian power forward Nemanja Jelesijevic (210-79, agency: World Sport Agency) stepped up and scored 25 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and American point guard John Sharper (186-84, college: San Diego St.) chipped in 25 points and 5 assists. International swingman Ivica Dimcevski (194-89, agency: Interperformances) responded with 23 points. Kumanovo 2009's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Fersped-Rabotnicki moved-up to second place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Kumanovo 2009. Kumanovo 2009 will play next round against Pelister Bitola trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Fersped-Rabotnicki will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked ABA Strumica on the road.

It was a key game for the top position in the league. ABA Strumica will play next round against strong Fersped-Rabotnicki trying to get back on the winning streak. Feni Indistrija will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Vardar at Skopje.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Skopje: Lirija (#5) and Vardar (#7). Lirija (3-2) crushed visiting Vardar (1-4) by 23 points 83-60. The best player for the winners was Balsa Radunovic who scored 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Dragan Kerkez produced 21 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lirija have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Vardar keeps the seventh position with four games lost. Lirija will meet Kozuv (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Vardar will play against the league's leader Feni Indistrija (#1) in Kavadarci.

This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to fourth ranked Kozuv (3-2) 79-44. Aleksandar Shterjov orchestrated the victory by scoring 13 points and 8 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kozuv moved-up to second place, which they share with 4 other teams. Pelister Bitola at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. Kozuv's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Lirija in Skopje and it will be for sure the game of the week. Pelister Bitola will play at home against Kumanovo 2009 (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.



Feni Indistrija - ABA Strumica 89-85

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Feni Indistrija as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Feni Indistrija defeated second-ranked ABA Strumica in Kavadarci 89-85. It was a key game for the top position in the league. ABA Strumica was ahead by 17 points after three quarters before a 30-9 charge of Feni Indistrija, which allowed them to win the game. They made 18-of-20 charity shots (90.0 percent) during the game. The former international guard Darko Sokolov (190-86) nailed 21 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and Serbian center Dusan Knezevic (207-80, agency: BeoExcell) accounted for 15 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Eftim Bogoev (185-80) came up with 22 points and 8 assists and the former international center Zlatko Gocevski (206-82, agency: Interperformances) added 23 points and 5 rebounds respectively for ABA Strumica in the defeat. Four ABA Strumica players scored in double figures. As mentioned above they took over a top position. ABA Strumica at the other side keeps the second place with two games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. ABA Strumica will play next round against strong Fersped-Rabotnicki trying to get back on the winning streak. Feni Indistrija will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Vardar at Skopje.

Lirija - Vardar 83-60

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Skopje: Lirija (#5) and Vardar (#7). Lirija (3-2) crushed visiting Vardar (1-4) by 23 points 83-60. The game was mostly controlled by Lirija. Vardar managed to win fourth quarter 16-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Vardar 36-23 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Montenegrin power forward Balsa Radunovic (207-80, agency: Interperformances) who scored 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Aleksandar Radojevik chipped in 7 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Four Lirija players scored in double figures. Bottom-ranked Pelister Bitola (0-5) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to fourth ranked Kozuv (3-2) 79-44. The game without a history. Kozuv led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Pelister Bitola's 14. They outrebounded Pelister Bitola 35-17 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Center Aleksandar Shterjov (208-86, agency: Global Sports Plaza) orchestrated the victory by scoring 13 points and 8 rebounds. Center Kiril Pavlovski (210-85, agency: Global Sports Plaza) contributed with 10 points and 9 rebounds for the winners.
