What has been written about in the past few weeks has finally been confirmed. Macedonian National Team has decided to withdraw from qualifications for European Championships Division B. As the issue with gathering a squad surfaced as a problem which can not be solved, Macedonian Federation had no other choice but to withdraw. This will certainly be a huge blow for female Basketball in Macedonia, and further repercussions are still expected. As it was reported, FIBA looks set to punish Macedonian Federation with the fine which can go up to 30.000 Euros for withdrawal. As it was reported previously, Macedonian Federation has faced many problems with its female National Team. First problem was enabling the adequate conditions for preparations. Once this was solved, Head Coach of National Team Vidoja Sekuloski faced another problem of gathering a team since most of the players canceled. Out of 34 candidates which were invited, only 5 confirmed that they will come, while others refused as they did not want to pay for the expenses of their travel. As the stance of the federation is only to cover expenses when the team travels abroad and since they are not ready at this time to cover all travel expenses for their players, a problem was created for which compromise could not be found. As result, this drastic measure was taken and Macedonia will not continue with qualifications. So far, Macedonia has played four qualification games in Group B. They are currently in 3rd place with 2 wins and two losses. Other than Macedonia, qualifying Group B consists of Sweden, Portugal, Estonia and Luxemburg. Next round was scheduled for August 15th, 2008 and Macedonia was supposed to travel to Estonia. Now it remains to be seen, will there be any other punishments other than monetary one.

Macedonian Basketball Federation is facing problems with wit Female Senior National Team. Instead of starting with the preparation cycle for qualifications for European Championship Division B, Federation is struggling to gather a team. After only recently managing to provide conditions for practicing, now the issue has risen that only 5 out of 34 candidates have confirmed they will show up. It seems that most of the players do not wish to pay the travel expenses for their coming to preparations so they decided to decline the invitation. The stance of the federation is to only cover expenses when the team travels abroad and they are not ready at this time to cover all travel expenses for their players. Head Coach, Vidoja Sekuloski is hoping that some kind of compromise will be found soon and that the team will eventually gather. Otherwise, Macedonia will have to withdraw from qualification for European Championships. This would prove to be a huge blow for Macedonian female basketball, which is already going through some tough times. Time will tell if Federation will solve this situation. So far, Macedonia has played four qualification games in Group B. They are currently in 3rd place with 2 wins and two losses. Other than Macedonia, qualifying Group B consists of Sweden, Portugal, Estonia and Luxemburg. Next round is scheduled for August 15th, 2008 and Macedonia is supposed to travel to Estonia. It remains to be seen if the team will travel to Estonia or will they have to forfeit the rest of their games.
