27-year old swingman Jared Newson (195-G/F-84, agency: Pro One Sports) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's best team Kataja and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 29. He had a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds, while his team beat ToPo (#5, 13-13) 96-91. It allowed Kataja to consolidate first place in the Finnish league. Kataja have a solid 22-4 record. In the team's last game Newson had a remarkable 71.4% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Kataja and it's hard to imagine this team without him. University of Tennessee at Martin graduate has very impressive stats this year. Newson is in league's top in points (3rd best: 19.0ppg), rebounds (4th best: 9.4rpg) and averages solid 53.6% FGP.
Second best performed player last round was Allen Durham (198-F-88) of Salon Vilpas. He is American forward in his first season at Salon Vilpas. In the last game Durham recorded impressive double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds. Of course Salon Vilpas cruised to a 66-56 relatively comfortable win over slightly lower-ranked Korihait (#10, 9-17). This victory allowed Salon Vilpas to move up to 8th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 11-16 record. Durham is a newcomer at Salon Vilpas and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.0ppg (#4). He also registered 10.9 boards per game. Former Grace Bible College star Durham is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market.
Third place about best performers goes to guard Malik Moore (192-G-77, agency: Prossin Sports Management) of Namika Lahti (#11). Moore showcased his all-around game by recording 19 points, nine rebounds and six assists in the last round. Despite Moore's great performance Namika Lahti lost 83-86 to the higher-ranked Pyrinto (#4, 15-10). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Namika Lahti can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 7-20 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Too bad for Moore he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Moore has individually a great season in Finland. After 16 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 4.6apg (2nd best).
