Friends, I am on my way to Vaasa to run a little clinic about offensive basketball. Taking this trip by train and it is absolutely a great way to travel: Good seat, internet connection, and time to work. Just finished ToPos next scouting report (opponent Korihait, at their place-tough), went through some statistical analysis about our game (seeing improvement) and now I am doing this, writing the blog (and enjoying it).

These clinics are just great and refreshing for me and definately educational for me also. And a great chance to meet basketball people U do not meet on regular basis.
Lets take the the city I am travelling to, Vaasa. They do not have that strong of a team in Finnish competition system, mens team playing in division 2 (3rd level), but they have basketball tradition there, having produced some good players, best one being Olli Ahvenniemi. Hopefully I can help these nice people with their thing and the local club will produce 1-2 Ahvenniemis in the future.

ToPo then? Well, in my last blog I wrote that our next three games will show us what we are made of...lost all three, so maybe I should have not written anything about those games? We played two horrible games, but in the last one of those three we did really well ( at Joensuu), taking the best team in the league to the wire. Lost that one, but still were happy with our discipline and execution. Took the positive from that loss and won the next three games (LrNMKY, Kouvot and Salo). So right now we are 16-13 and fighting for the homecourt advantage for the playoffs.

There are some new faces in Helsinki wearing ToPo uniform: Josh Wilson has played six games for us and is getting used to the Finnish game and producing. Justin Hawkins joiden the team last Thursday, played on Friday and will be a great help for us in 'the hunt of the Panther ' (AKA championship trophy). Now we are all set and will be ready for a real tough schedule we have ahead of us: Sunday 19.2 at Uusikaupunki, Wednesday 22nd at Kotka, Friday 24th vs Loimaa! After that we will have a break for 11 days (!) before travelling to Tampere. Weird schedule... but cannot do anything about it, has to see the positive: We will have a lot of time to focus on our stuff.

Now need to stop writing, I am almost at Vaasa (west coast of Finland), will take a little Sauna at the hotel and at 5PM will start talking.

Respect the game!

Pekka Salminen

In 2007 Bluntt was drafted by Yakama Sun Kings (CBA) in first round (10th overall). The former Delaware State standoutis in his eleventh (!!!) season in pro basketball. Asbury's double-double lands him Player of the Week award - 1 day ago
31-year old Brian Asbury (201-SF-86) had a very impressive game in the last round for Pyrinto and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 5. He had a double-double of 28 points and 16 rebounds, while his team beat Helsinki Seagulls (#2, 4-2) 78-69. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Pyrinto is placed at 4th position in Finnish league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost two games earlier this season. Pyrinto will need more victor...   [read more]

Korisliiga Round 5: Tampereen Pyrinto defeat Helsinki Seagulls - 2 days ago
This is still too early stage of the Regular Season in Korisliiga and we should expect many changes in upcoming rounds. The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Helsinki Seagulls (4-2) at the home court on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Tampereen Pyrinto (3-2) 78-69. Helsinki Seagulls was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 24-13 charge of Tampereen Pyrinto, which allowed them to win the game.
