ToPo - Kataja 66-85 (1-3)

Joensuun Kataja advanced to the Finals after the win in Game 4. The game was mostly controlled by Joensuun Kataja. Torpan Pojat was better in fourth quarter 20-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The winners were led by American swingman Jared Newson (195-84, college: Tenn-Martin, agency: Pro One Sports) who scored that evening 17 points and 7 rebounds and the former international power forward Sami Lehtoranta (205-79) supported him with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Joensuun Kataja players scored in double figures. Even 17 points by American forward Justin Hawkins (201-85, college: N.Mexico St., agency: Two Points) did not help to save the game for Torpan Pojat. His fellow American import swingman Ronald Clark (196-81, college: Colorado St., agency: Interperformances) added 10 points for lost side.

Pyrinto - Nilan Bisons 90-69 (2-2)

The series is tied at 2-2. The game was mostly controlled by Tampereen Pyrinto. Loimaan Korikonkarit managed to win third quarter 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tampereen Pyrinto had a 29-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Tampereen Pyrinto especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. Americans were the main players on the court. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Damon Williams (201-73, college: Colorado St.-Pueblo, agency: Two Points) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Kenneth Lowe (192-80, college: Purdue) who added 26 points and 4 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) during the contest. Tampereen Pyrinto's coach Pieti Poikola felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side forward Ryan McDade (201-80, college: N.Arizona) responded with 23 points and 6 rebounds and guard Martin Zeno (196-85, college: Texas Tech) scored 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Finns who are currently playing abroad. This week's number one is an international point guard Petteri Koponen (194-88). He could not help FC Barcelona (7-10) in their last game. Despite Koponen's very good performance the 12th-placed FC Barcelona (7-10) was edged 69-67 at home by the much higher-ranked (#3) Olympiacos in the group A of Euroleague.    [read more]
