Andre
Stephens
American Andre Stephens (202-F-87) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Huima and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com 1st Division Player of the Week award for round 13.
The 25-year old forward had a double-double of 33 points and fourteen rebounds, while his team crushed Pyrinto II (#8, 4-8) with 17-point margin 102-85. Huima maintains the 6th position in Finnish 1st Division. Huima is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 5-6 record. Stephens turned to be Huima's top player in his first season with the team. University of Southern Mississippi graduate has very impressive stats this year. Stephens is in league's top in rebounds (7th best: 11.2rpg) and averages solid 1.2bpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was another Huima's star - 25-year old American guard DeAndre Mays (188-G-87, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov). Mays impressed basketball fans with 31 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Of course together with Stephens he helped Huima with another comfortable win 102-85 over slightly lower-ranked Pyrinto II (#8, 4-8) being unquestionably team leader. Huima's 6th position in group A has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 5-6 record. Mays is a newcomer at Huima and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.4ppg (#4). His other stats are also decent: 7.0rpg and 4.0apg.

The third best performed player last round was American Brian Moultrie (198-C/F-87) of BC Nokia (#5). Moultrie scored 19 points and grabbed twenty rebounds (!!!). Despite Moultrie's great performance BC Nokia lost 80-82 to the higher-ranked ToPo (#2, 8-4). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing BC Nokia needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams in group A. Their record is 6 victories and 5 lost games. Moultrie has a great season in Finland. After 11 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 25.6ppg (best scorer) and rebounds with 15.5rpg (#1 in league).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Pierre Jallow (203-F/C-79) of Jarvenpaa - 26 points, 22 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Nafis Ricks (188-G) of BC Jyvaskyla - 24 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists
6. Michael Corpening (203-F-87) of BC Jyvaskyla - 19 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Sakari Salminen (200-F-87) of TuNMKY - 25 points and 15 rebounds
8. La Trice Little (187-G-79) of Kerava ET - 22 points, 15 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Eryk Thomas (200-C/F-85) of SayRi - 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists
10. Russell Frederick (185-PG-88) of Oulun NMKY - 22 points and 9 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Finns who are currently playing abroad. This week's number one is an international point guard Petteri Koponen (194-88). He could not help FC Barcelona (7-10) in their last game. Despite Koponen's very good performance the 12th-placed FC Barcelona (7-10) was edged 69-67 at home by the much higher-ranked (#3) Olympiacos in the group A of Euroleague.    [read more]
