Here is the weekly review of the top performing Finnish players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Gerald Lee (208-87, college: ODU, currently plays in Adriatic League), who plays in Montenegro. He could not help Buducnost (8-7) in their last game. Despite Lee's very good performance Buducnost lost 75-84 on the road to the higher-ranked (#5) Cedevita. He was the top scorer with 23 points in 27 minutes on the court; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Lee's third season in pro basketball. It's Lee's first year with the team. He has relatively good stats this season: 12.3ppg, 4.3rpg, 2FGP: 59.3%(73-123) and FT: 63.9% in the 15 games he played so far. Lee is a naturalized American. He is currently a member of the Finnish senior national team. Strangely Lee has never played in Finland.

   #2. Second place goes to an international guard Sasu Salin (192-91, currently plays in Adriatic League), who plays in Slovenia. He was not able to help Un.Olimpija (8-7) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Salin's good performance Un.Olimpija was defeated 78-70 in Split by the lower-ranked KK Split (#9). He scored 14 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Salin is currently second on the list of most steals. This season he averages: 7.6ppg, 3.1rpg, 1.9spg, 2FGP: 45.2%, 3FGP: 34.9% and FT: 75.0%. Salin is in the roster of the Finnish senior national team.

The Finnish player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Teemu Rannikko (189-80, currently plays in Adriatic League) is a teammate of previously mentioned Sasu Salin and both played together in the last Adriatic League game. Rannikko, who plays in Slovenia. He was not able to secure a victory for Un.Olimpija (8-7) in their last game. Despite Rannikko's good performance Un.Olimpija lost 70-78 in Split to the lower-ranked (#9) KK Split. He was the second best scorer with 14 points in 27 minutes. This year Rannikko's overall stats are: 6.3ppg, 1.1rpg, 3.2apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 72.7%, 3FGP: 34.2% and FT: 86.8% in the 14 games. He is also a member of the Finnish senior national team.

   #4. Point guard Petteri Koponen (194-88, currently plays in Russia) contributed to Khimky's victory against the closely-ranked Lokomotiv (4-5) 104-100 in the Russian PBL in Sunday night's game. Koponen recorded 6 points. BC Khimky Moscow Region (6-2) is placed second in the PBL. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. It's Koponen's first season with the team. His total stats this year are: 6.8ppg, 1.3rpg and 2.3apg. Koponen is also Finnish national team player.

International guard Roope Ahonen (186-90, agency: FCM, currently plays in Sweden) led Solna Vikings to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Eco Orebro (3-15) 90-73 in the Swedish Basketligan last Friday. He scored 13 points and added 5 passes in 26 minutes. Solna Vikings (11-7) is placed fifth in the Basketligan. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. This year Ahonen has relatively solid stats: 11.0ppg, 2.1rpg and 3.9apg in the 18 games. He plays currently for the Finnish national team.

   #6. Forward Ville Kaunisto (205-82, currently plays in France), who plays in the French NM1 (third division) couldn't help Blois (8-5) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Kaunisto's good performance Blois was edged 82-81 in Quimper by the higher-ranked UJAP (#3). He recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 10 rebounds. Kaunisto also added 3 assists. Kaunisto is currently first on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (first place). He has individually a very good season with high stats. Kaunisto averages: 18.5ppg, 11.5rpg and 1.9apg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Finnish National Team roster.

U20 international forward Alex Murphy (203-93, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to an easy victory against the Cornell University crushing them 88-47 in the NCAA in Wednesday night's game. Murphy scored 7 points in 16 minutes. The Duke University has conference record this season. Murphy has very impressive stats this year: 18.5ppg, 11.5rpg and 1.9apg in the 13 games. He is a naturalized American. Murphy is also Finnish U20 national team player. Apparently he has never played in Finland.

Small forward Shawn Huff (198-84, college: Valparaiso, currently plays in Italy) managed to help Vanoli Cremona to win against the league outsider VL Pesaro (2-10) 91-73 in the Italian SerieA last Sunday. Huff scored only 1 points. Vanoli Cremona (4-8) is placed 12th in the SerieA. Huff's total stats this season are: 4.4ppg and 4.0rpg. He plays currently for the Finnish national team.

University international forward Lauri Toivonen (201-91, currently studies in the States) contributed to UTPA's victory against the University of Nebraska at Omaha (0-2) 80-72 in the NCAA on Saturday night. Toivonen scored 5 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 23 minutes. The University of Texas-Pan American has conference record this season. This year Toivonen's total stats are: 4.4ppg and 4.0rpg in the 12 games. He used to play for the Finnish university national team last year.

Power forward Joonas Caven (211-93, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a Prat Juventud's victory against the closely-ranked Clinicas Rincon (6-4) 70-66 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) in Saturday night's game. Caven scored only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. CB Prat Juventud (6-4) is placed third in the LEB Silver. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Caven has averaged so far 6.7ppg and 2.9rpg. He is U20 international player who is currently on the Finnish National Team roster.

26-year old forward Dom Morris (201-F-90) had a very impressive game in the last round for Lapua and receives a Player of the Week award for round 5. He had the game-high 26 points adding six rebounds and two assists for Lapua in his team's victory, helping them to beat Korihait (#9, 1-5) 94-85. Lapua is placed at 4th position in Finnish league. Gries/Oberhoffen BC (NM1) signed 29-year old American forward Gregg Thondique (201-107kg-87, college: Virginia Union, agency: Octagon Europe). He already started the season at Kouvot in Finnish Korisliiga, but left the team in Oct.'16. In three games he had 14.7ppg, 10.3rpg and 1.7apg this season. Korisliiga Round 5: Helsinki Seagulls defeat KTP-Basket in the game between Top 4 teams - 2 days ago

There were just five rounds played in Regular Season of Korisliiga and we can clearly see which teams will fight for top positions and which will try to avoid bottom places. An interesting game for Helsinki Seagulls (4-0) which played road game in Kotka against 4th placed KTP-Basket (2-3). Leader Helsinki Seagulls managed to get a 7-point victory 82-75.
