Latvia won over Finland in the opener of the Baltic Sea Basketball Cup tournament. Trailing 5 points at the end of the first period, Latvia pushed the tempo for good and won the game. Finland grabbed 18-13 in the first period, but could not keep the score for good. Latvia erupted with 16-5 surge in the second frame and added 10-5 burst in the third quarter. Moreover Latvia did not slow down and posted a final 21-17 rally in the last quarter. They made 41 Total Rebounds, while Finland had 40. Paula Strautmane (184-F-97) top-scored for the winners with 15 points and Laura Grabe (176-F-98) notched 11. Amanda Betlere (170-F-97) and Marta Jancevska (178-F-98) posted 9 points each in a win. Sandra Karsten (180-SG-97) replied with 10 points in a loss and Riina Karkkainen (166-G-98) as well as Nina Augustin (167-PG-97) had 8 each. Lotta Erakangas (183-F-97) delivered 5 points in a loss.

Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Emma Cannon who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 38 points and 13 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). The former international swingman Anne Breitreiner contributed with 18 points for the winners. American forward Denise Beliveau replied with 20 points and 5 rebounds and Alyssa Karel added 20 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Rhein Main Baskets.
