Korisliiga, round 21: UU-Korihait (Uusikaupunki) is a dangerous team - at least on home court. Dec 30 Korihait upset Top League leader Bisons (Loimaa) 87-84 and tonight Korihait beat Pyrinto (Tampere) 90-81 (48-36). Korihait record is only 6-15, so defeating teams with 17-4 and 16-5 records is big news. Korihait had finally again three American players on the roster. Newcomers T.J. Robinson (203-F-89, agency: Global Sports Plaza, college: Long Beach St.) (10pts/10rbs in 30 minutes) and Demond Watt (200-F-89, college: Texas A&M-CC) (8pts/10rbs in 26:37 minutes) helped of course, but Finnish players Villematti Kopio (182-PG-92) (21 pts) and Mikko Jalonen (186-PG-82) (19 pts) led the hosts in points. Lamonte Ulmer (198-SF-86, college: Rhode Island) led Pyrinto with 18 pts. Carl Lindbom (206-F-91) added 17 pts, but was 1/9 from behind the arc. Reginald Bratton (193-G/F-86, college: Lenoir-Rhyne) DNP.
Bisons (Loimaa) scored 101 points vs Korikobrat (Lapua) and that was 21 points too much for Lapua: 101-80 (48-39). Mikko Koivisto (194-G-87, college: NC-Greensboro) played 22:24 minutes and hit 7/10 from behind the 3-point-line. Ryan McDade (201-F-80, college: N.Arizona) had a double-double 20pts/10rbs as well as Martin Zeno (196-G-85, college: Texas Tech): 18pts and 16 assists! Samuel Haanpaa (203-SG-86) again leading Lapua with 15 pts.
Karhu (Kauhajoki) crushed FoKoPo (Forssa) 85-67 (42-33). Tremaine Ford (206-F/C-86, college: CS Northridge) led Karhu with 17 pts. Andrais Thornton (203-F-85, college: NW Missouri St.) (FoKoPo) had a double-double 15pts/10rbs.
Kouvot (Kouvola) and Vilpas (Salo) made their contest tight with 14 lead changes and nine ties. Kouvot won finally 80-75 (38-32). Gilberto Clavell (201-F-89, agency: KMG Sports Management, college: Sam Houston St.) scored game high 24 pts. Shawn Atupem (200-F-89, college: Mt.St.Mary's) led Vilpas with 21 pts. And the only loss at home for YMCA Lahti, when KTP came from Kotka and captured the victory with 67-82 (37-45) figures. Timo Heinonen (198-F-81) (KTP) netted game high 23 points.
UU-Korihait - Pyrinto 90-81 (48-36). (Villematti Kopio 21, Mikko Jalonen 19, Alain Laroche 18 - Lamonte Ulmer 18, Carl Lindbom 17, Damon Williams 15. A: 655).
Bisons - Lapua 101-80 (48-39). (Mikko Koivisto 21, Ryan McDade 20/10, Martin Zeno 18/16a - Samuel Haanpaa 15, Trey Hampton 14, Dominique Coleman 13. A: 708).
Karhu - FoKoPo 85-67 (42-33). (Tremaine Ford 17, J'Nathan Bullock 15/10, Eldar Skamo 14 - Andrais Thornton 15/10, Jahmar Thorpe 14, Charlie Burgess 14. A: 531).
Kouvot - Vilpas 80-75 (38-32). (Gilberto Clavell 24, Ilari Seppala 18, Chris Hester 12 - Shawn Atupem 21/5a, Adam Brown 11, Jukka Kataja 11. A: 832).
