Taru Tuukkanen's double-double lands her Player of the Week award among Finns playing currently abroad - Jan 23, 2013

We bring you last week's top performances from Finns who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is an experienced international center Taru Tuukkanen (190-77, agency: Regeneracom Sports, college: Xavier, currently plays in Spain), who plays in the Spanish LFB. She could not help Caja Rural (6-6) in their last game. Despite Tuukkanen's good performance Caja Rural lost 70-75 on the road to the lower-ranked (#8) Hondarribia-Irun.
She had a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 10 rebounds in 33 minutes on the court.
Tuukkanen has relatively good stats this year: 13.7ppg, 6.2rpg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 46.9% and FT: 82.4% in the 12 games she played so far.
She is currently a member of the Finnish senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to an international forward Dionne Pounds (174-84, also represented by Regeneracom Sports, college: Lamar, currently plays in Spain) is a teammate of previously mentioned Taru Tuukkanen and both played together in the last Spanish LFB game.
Pounds, who plays in the Spanish LFB. She was not able to help Caja Rural (6-6) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Pounds' very good performance Caja Rural was defeated 75-70 on the opponent's court by the lower-ranked Hondarribia-Irun (#8).
She was the top scorer with 16 points. Pounds also added 4 rebounds.
This season Pounds has relatively solid stats: 11.0ppg, 2.6rpg, 2FGP: 44.7%, 3FGP: 43.8% and FT: 76.2%.
She is in the roster of the Finnish senior national team.
#3. The Finnish player who performed third best last week abroad was an international swingman Heta Korpivaara (186-84, another player represented by Regeneracom Sports, college: Seton Hall, currently plays in Germany), who plays in the German DBBL. Korpivaara was not able to secure a victory for Heli Girls (9-4) in their last game. Despite her very good performance Heli Girls lost 76-80 at home to the lower-ranked (#5) Eisvogel Freiburg.
Korpivaara was the top scorer with 19 points. She also added 4 rebounds in 32 minutes.
It was Heli Girls' third consecutive loss in a row.
Korpivaara is ranked sixth on the list of the top scorers in the league with 17.6ppg.
This year her other stats are: 5.2rpg, 1.1apg, 2FGP: 52.2% and FT: 89.5% in the 13 games.
Korpivaara is also a member of the Finnish senior national team.
#4. Swingman Tiina Sten (189-85, another player represented by Regeneracom Sports, college: St.John's, currently plays in Germany) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Herner TC (2-11) crushing them 93-71 in the German DBBL in Saturday night's game.
She recorded 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
TSV 1880 Wasserburg (11-2) is placed first in the DBBL.
It was her team's fourth consecutive victory in a row.
Sten's overall stats this season are: 7.8ppg and 3.2rpg.
She is also Finnish national team player.
#5. Former U20 international guard Janika Sundstrom (175-87, currently plays in Sweden) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked 08 Stockholm (11-12) crushing them 89-56 in the Swedish Damligan last Saturday.
Sundstrom scored 7 points in 15 minutes.
Kvarnby BBK (7-10) is placed seventh in the Damligan.
They ended the series of three consecutive loses.
This year Sundstrom's overall stats are: 2.7ppg and 1.5rpg in the 16 games.
She used to play for the Finnish U20 national team
seven years ago.
One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Finnish passport:
#1.Saara Lehtoranta (170-F-90, currently plays in Germany), who plays in the German 2.Bundesliga (12th division) could not help TG Neuss (5-8) to beat Berlin (11-2). Lehtoranta did not beat the league record on Saturday evening.
She recorded only 3 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
The eighth-placed TG Neuss was crushed 97-49 on the road by the second-ranked Berlin in the North group.
Lehtoranta's total stats this season are: 4.5ppg and 1.8rpg.

Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Emma Cannon who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 38 points and 13 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). The former international swingman Anne Breitreiner contributed with 18 points for the winners. American forward Denise Beliveau replied with 20 points and 5 rebounds and Alyssa Karel added 20 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Rhein Main Baskets. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. In 2012-2013 for TSV 1880 Wasserburg (Germany-DBBL) Tiina Sten averaged 8.0ppg, 3.0rpg, 1.5apg, FGP: 39.4%, 3PT: 25.0%, FT: 69.6%. It was a great evening for American Chandrea Jones (175-87, college: Syracuse, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Russian power forward Jelena Reshetko (184-86) helped adding 18 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American swingman Korinne Campbell (182-88, college: W.Virginia) with 14 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import forward Shenita Landry (188-87, college: Temple) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Peli-Karhut's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.
