Finnish Korisliiga round 26 best performance: Devonne Giles - Jan 25, 2013

Devonne
Giles
American forward Devonne Giles (203-F-83) had an amazing evening in the last round for KTP, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 26.
The 29-year old player was the main contributor (33 points, seven rebounds) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Salon Vilpas (#10, 7-18) 97-82. KTP maintains the 4th position in Finnish Korisliiga. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. KTP will need more victories to improve their 19-6 record. Giles turned to be KTP's top player in his first season with the team. Former Texas Tech University star has very solid stats this year. Giles is in league's top in rebounds (5th best: 8.4rpg) and averages impressive 60.2% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 24-year old American Marcus Relphorde (198-F-88) of Salon Vilpas. Relphorde had a very good evening with a double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Salon Vilpas lost that game 82-97 to the higher-ranked KTP (#4, 19-6). This loss caused Salon Vilpas to drop to 10th position in the standings. 18 lost games are too many comparing to just seven victories Salon Vilpas managed to get this year. Relphorde is one of the most experienced players at Salon Vilpas and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was Puerto Rican forward Gilberto Clavell (201-F-89, agency: KMG Sports Management) of Kouvot (#6). Clavell scored 28 points and grabbed six rebounds. Despite Clavell's great performance Kouvot lost 77-82 to the higher-ranked Nilan Bisons (#1, 19-5). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Kouvot ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 13 games, recording just twelve victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Clavell could help Kouvot to bring them higher in the standings. Clavell has a great season in Finland. After 24 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 19.8ppg (4th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Greg Logins (200-F-88) of LrNMKY - 33 points and 7 rebounds
5. Jason Conley (196-G-81) of LrNMKY - 25 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Mikko Jalonen (186-PG-82) of Korihait - 26 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Johnell Smith (180-PG-80) of Kataja - 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Tremaine Ford (206-F/C-86) of Kauhajoki - 12 points and 16 rebounds
9. T.J. Robinson (203-F-89) of Korihait - 18 points and 15 rebounds
10. Sefton Barrett (196-SF-83) of KTP - 19 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
