Catz Lappeenranta (SM-sarja) strengthened their roster with addition of 29-year old American guard Sakellie Daniels (170-84, college: Charlotte). She played recently at Kibirkstis-Tiche in Lithuanian LMKL. In 12 games this season she recorded 5.3ppg, 3.4rpg, 3.3apg and 2.9spg. Daniels also played 4 games in Eurocup where she averaged 8.0ppg, 4.8rpg, 3.3apg and 1.5spg. The last season she played also at Kibirkstis-Tiche (LMKL) in Lithuanian league. In 32 games last season she averaged 9.5ppg, 6.2rpg, 6.1apg and 3.3spg. She helped them to make it to both league and cup finals after they ended regular season as second best team. Great season indeed as she was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Lithuanian LMKL 1st Team. Daniels also played 9 games in Baltic League where she averaged 5.8ppg, 5.4rpg, 6.3apg (leader !!!) and 2.3spg (leader !!!). Among other achievements she received Eurobasket.com All-Swiss LNA Defensive Player of the Year award back in 2009 and 2010. Daniels has played previously professionally in Germany (Leipzig Eagles) and Switzerland (Nyon). She attended University of North Carolina - Charlotte until 2006 and it will be her seventh season in pro basketball. The scouts decsribe her following way: Sakellie is a very athletic, strong and very quick guard who can play both the 1 and 2 guard position. She is a very versatile player who is capable of scoring both inside and outside, and also plays good defense with high intensity. She possesses good ball handling and can really create in the open court. Can to push the ball down the floor at high speed, without losing control. While penetrating has a good court sense to make the pass to the right player. She is a good passer also off the dribble Good 1 - 1 player with a very first explosive step, who can create well for herself and her team mates. Has a great pull up jumper and reads the defense well. Rebounds very well for a guard at her size. She possesses quick defensive foot work. On the ball is able to pressure closely. She uses her quick hands and defensive instinct very well, which creates a lot of steals and easy scoring opportunities. Off the ball is able to deny and pressure the passing lanes very well.

Finnish U16 National Team completed a successful trip to Sweden to take part at the Nordic Cup tournament. They won four out five games at the tournament and claimed the second overall position in the ladder.

Denmark reacted with a 19:10 rally in the fourth frame to force overtime. Finland held their opponents to 3 points in the extra period to seal the victory. Sandra Karsten (180-SG-97) notched 13 points for Finland. Nina Augustin (167-PG-97) chipped in 12 points for the winners. Sarah Mortensen responded with 21 points for Denmark. Enna Pehadzic (176-G/F-97) delivered 16 points and 10 boards in the losing effort. Next Finland took on Estonia. It was a lopsided affair as Finland cruised to a 92:37 victory. Selina Dockery (180-F/G-97) came up with 19 points to pace Finland. Iina Salmenkivi (184-C-97) had 18 points, while Sandra Karsten notched 12 points for the winning side. Laura Reissar and Mariann Adelbert replied with 10 points each for Estonia. Iceland yielded against Finland 46:80 in the third round. Finland led from start to finish earning a well-deserved win. Sandra Karsten provided 10 points for Finland. Iina Salmenkivi dropped 9 points in the winning case. Kristrun Bjorgvinsdottir responded with 7 points for Iceland. Norway could not match their Finnish opponents in the next game 49:80. Norway stayed within reach in the first half but conceded an 11:28 blow in the third quarter to surrender at the end. Tessa Virtanen (163-SG-97) posted 14 points for Finland. Selina Dockery had 12 points in the win. Ulrikke Hoff answered with 13 points for Norway. Solveig Mildestvedt chipped in 10 points in the losing case. Sweden faced Finland on the final day of the tournament. And once again the hosts got to the better start. Sweden piled up a 42:32 halftime lead. They held their Finnish opponents to 5 points in the third quarter to march from there on. Olivia Bringefalt (188-PF-97) dropped 20 points and pulled down 9 rebounds for Sweden. Adriana Camber had 19 points in the winning case. Iina Salmenkivi replied with 13 points for Finland.

Anemone Scheel (184-F-95) had 9 points in the loss. Next Finland faced Estonian counterparts. Estonia led comfortably by 9 points after three quarters of action. Finland came up with a furious comeback effort in the fourth frame and nearly stole the victory. But Estonia held on and escaped with a 42:40 success at the end. Kadri-Ann Lass (175-F-96) notched 17 points for Estonia. Trine Kasemagi had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Elina Koskimies (180-F-96) chipped in 7 points for Finland. Anni Jamsa (167-PG-95) provided 6 points in the losing case. Finland then surrendered against Iceland 61:66. Iceland piled up a 40:28 halftime lead and held on to it throughout the second half. Jonsdottir delivered 20 points for Iceland. Kristinardottir chipped in 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the winners. Ulriikka Latvala responded with 15 points for Finland. Riikka Kujala (165-G-95) had 13 points in the defeat. Norway also could not match Finland in the fourth game at the tournament 42:76. Finland led from start to finish earning a convincing win. Wilma Purhonen (183-F-95) and Armi Anttila (189-F/C-95) dropped 11 points each to lead the winners. Maja Foeleide responded with game-high 15 points for Norway. Vilde Tveito (182-PF-95) had 8 points in the loss. Finally Finland lost to Sweden 55:61 for the third loss at the tournament. Emma Eriksson (163-PG-95) stepped up with 22 points to propel Sweden to a 61:55 victory. Amanda Kantzy (185-F-96) posted 10 points and 11 rebounds as Sweden clinched the trophy. Elli Koskinen responded with 14 points for Finland. Anni Jamsa had 8 points and 6 assists in the losing effort.
