Korisliiga, round 28: Close, tight contests tonight - and interesting results. FoKoPo (7-21) from Forssa defeated Bisons (21-6) from Loimaa 99-91 (45-44) thanks to the last quarter (30-20). There were 14 lead changes and nine ties during the 40 minutes. Jahmar Thorpe (198-F-84, college: Houston) (27pts/10rbs) and Olli Kaunomaki (195-G/F-86) (24 pts) were the heros of the hosts. Kaunomaki played only 27 minutes and hit 6/8 from behind the arc. Martin Zeno (196-G-85, college: Texas Tech) led Bisons with 29 pts. Matti Nuutinen (200-PF-90) added 21 pts.
Kataja (21-5) from Joensuu beat Vilpas (8-20) from Salo 96-87 (42-37). Daniel Coleman (206-F-85, college: Minnesota) led Kataja with a double-double 18pts/10rbs. Marcus Relphorde (198-F-88, college: Colorado) netted 30 points (1 - 10/13, 2 - 4/12, 3 - 4/5) for Vilpas. Korikobrat (8-20) scored only 64 points vs visitor KTP (22-6) from Kotka and that was not enough for a victory. KTP won 64-77 (36-44). Bojan Sarcevic (190-G-88) (KTP) was game MVP with 25 pts. Kouvot (12-16) from Kouvola made also 64 points vs Korihait (10-18) from Uusikaupunki and would have needed many more points as Korihait won 64-92 (34-50). YMCA Lappeenranta (13-15) missed Jason Conley (196-G-81, agency: Warren Sports International, college: Missouri) and visitor YMCA Lahti (7-21) took an important victory 76-83 (32-37). Jordan Hasquet (206-F-85, agency: Dynamics Global Management, college: Montana) led YMCA Lahti with 23 pts. The victory was # 600 for YMCA Lahti on top level in Finland.
Finnish Cup winner Pyrinto (Tampere) and Karhu (17-11) from Kauhajoki had a real "fight" with 19 lead changes and 17 ties. Pyrinto (20-7) won finally by five 89-84 (47-49). Damon Williams (201-F-73, agency: Two Points, college: Colorado St.-Pueblo) led Pyrinto with 20pts/12rbs. Eldar Skamo's 22 pts made Karhu's Head Coach Ari Tammivaara, 47, happy, but team's American players were not on their own level this time. Tammivaara and Karhu have re-signed the new contract for 2013-14 season already. Another Finnish Coach Mika Turunen, 48, was hired in January to Coach KB Trepca Mitrovice in Kosovo SuperLeague. Turunen has coaching experience earlier in Finland, Luxembourg and in Hungary.
