EuroChallenge, Last 16, Group I: Kataja (Joensuu) had an excellent first half vs hosting BK Ventspils tonight, but Ventspils 7-0 run in the beginning of the third quarter was meaning difficulties for Kataja. Ventspils won the third quarter 25-9 and the contest by 14 points 75-61 (30-36). Quarters: 20-24, 10-12, 25-9, 20-16.
BK Ventspils was quite another team during the second half. That was also team's American PG Donald Sims (185-PG-87, college: Appalachian St.), who scored seven pts during the first two quarters and then 12 pts (four 3-pointers) during the third quarter. Sims was 5/5 in the game from behind the arc and netted 21 pts altogether. Arturs Berzins (204-PF-88, agency: FCM) added 13 pts.Ventspils won the rebounds 38-22. Johnell Smith (180-PG-80, college: New Orleans) and Antti Kanervo (193-SG-89) scored 12 pts both. Jonte Flowers (196-F/G-85, agency: Warren Sports International, college: Winona St.) added 11 pts.

Kauhajoki - Salon Vilpas 88-77 Kauhajoki held off Salon Vilpas to force the decisive seventh game in the semifinal series. The game was mostly controlled by Kauhajoen Karhu. Salon Vilpas managed to win third quarter 16-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kataja Basket - Helsinki Seagulls 91-71 Kataja Basket fired past Helsinki Seagulls to secure Korisliiga Finals birth. The game was mostly controlled by Joensuun Kataja.
