  follow us on Facebook Twitter

We bring you last week's top performances from Finns who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

Petteri Koponen
Petteri Koponen
#1. This week's number one is an international point guard Petteri Koponen (194-88, currently plays in Russia), who plays in the Russian PBL. He could not help Khimky (8-3) to beat Unics Kazan (4-7). Koponen scored 6 points and added 3 assists in 21 minutes on the court. Khimky lost 70-76 on the road to the lower-ranked (#7) Unics Kazan. It was Khimky's first loss after nine consecutive victories. This year Koponen averages: 5.8ppg, 1.7rpg, 2.5apg, 2FGP: 43.8%, 3FGP: 42.9% and FT: 75.0% in the six games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Finnish senior national team.

Roope Ahonen
Roope Ahonen
#2. Second place goes to an international guard Roope Ahonen (186-90, agency: FCM, currently plays in Sweden). Ahonen led Solna Vikings to a victory against the closely-ranked Sodertalje Kings (17-7) 78-70 in the Swedish Basketligan last Tuesday. He scored 16 points and added 3 passes. Solna Vikings (17-10) is placed sixth in the Basketligan. It's Ahonen's first season with the team. Ahonen has relatively good stats this year: 11.5ppg, 1.7rpg, 4.3apg, 2FGP: 46.8%, 3FGP: 38.4% and FT: 93.1%(81-87). He is in the roster of the Finnish senior national team.

Gerald Lee
Gerald Lee
#3. The Finnish player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Gerald Lee (208-87, college: ODU, currently plays in Eurocup). Lee was not able to help Buducnost (2-3) in their game against Triumph Lyubertsy (2-3) in the Eurocup. He scored only 4 points in 22 minutes. The third-placed Buducnost lost 66-76 in Lubertsy to the lower-ranked (#4) Triumph Lyubertsy in the group I of Eurocup. Lee's team will play only one more game in the Eurocup Top 16. And that game will be critical. This year Lee's overall stats are: 9.5ppg, 3.6rpg, 2FGP: 54.8% and FT: 66.7% in the 11 games. He is a naturalized American. Lee is also a member of the Finnish senior national team. Strangely he has never played in Finland.

Murphy's total stats this season are: 9.5ppg and 3.6rpg. He is a naturalized American. Murphy is also Finnish U20 national team player. Apparently he has never played in Finland.
