Kenya Robinson claims Finnish SM-sarja weekly honour - Feb 17, 2013

Experienced American Kenya Robinson (182-C-70) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Huima and that's her to receive a Player of the Week award for round 28.
The 42-year old center had a double-double of 21 points and twenty rebounds, while her team beat HyPo (#11, 2-20) 68-56. Huima maintains the 7th position in Finnish SM-sarja. Huima is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 12-11 record. Robinson has many years of experience at Huima, through which he has constantly improved. University of New Orleans graduate has very impressive stats this year. Robinson is in league's top in rebounds (4th best: 12.8rpg).

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 25-year old American guard Jordan Murphree (183-G-87, agency: Merit Sports) of Honka. Murphree impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 23 points and 15 rebounds. Bad luck as Honka lost that game 67-80 to the lower-ranked BC Nokia (#10, 4-19). This loss caused Honka to drop to 4th position in the standings. Her team's 14-9 record is not bad at all. Murphree is a newcomer at Honka and it seems she did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.1ppg (#3). Her other stats are also decent: 9.9rpg and 3.8apg.

The third best performed player last round was American Earlysia Marchbanks (180-G, agency: Interperformances) of Kerava (#8). Marchbanks scored 27 points and grabbed ten rebounds. Despite Marchbanks' great performance Kerava lost 76-96 to the higher-ranked PeKa (#2, 19-4). But her team cannot count on just a single shooter as she also needs help of the other teammates. Kerava can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 6-16 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Marchbanks she does not play for a better team. But maybe if she did, her season stats would not be that high. Marchbanks has individually a great season in Finland. After 18 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.1ppg (6th best) and rebounds with 13.0rpg (3rd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Kenya McBee (192-C-83) of ToPo - 16 points and 19 rebounds
5. Jelena Reshetko (184-C/F-86) of Catz - 24 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Jasmin Holliday (182-G/F-90) of Huima - 20 points and 11 rebounds
7. Secily Ray (180-F-90) of FoA - 19 points and 10 rebounds
8. Anniina Aijanen (189-C-95) of BC Nokia - 19 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Rosetta Adzasu (165-G-90) of Kerava - 24 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists
10. Alexandria Anderson (185-G/F-86) of Catz - 8 points, 15 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

SM-sarja Round 4 of Regular Season - 5 days ago

After 4 rounds played we can already see who rules in the SM-sarja and who belongs to weaker ones. The most shocking disappointment of round 4 was a home defeat of 3rd ranked ViVe (2-2) to fourth ranked HyPo (3-1) 86-82. It ended the two-game winning streak of ViVe. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-18. But ViVe won second period 15-14.
