Pinar Karsiyaka, the # 3 Team in Turkey right now, had already won Group I before coming to Finland, but for Kataja this contest was very important. The hosts run away first time already during the opening quarter, when Karsiyaka's PG Soner Senturk (194-G-86, agency: 1x1 Sports) had three turnovers in a row and Kataja made a 9-0 run into digits 19-11. During the half time Kataja was leading by 15 points, after 30 minutes by 13 pts (71-58) and after 35 minutes by 16 pts (83-67). Kataja was then securing the important home victory and Pinar Karsiyaka was saved from a real crush.

Three Americans and Petri Virtanen (183-PG-80) were Kataja's key players tonight. Jonte Flowers (196-F/G-85, agency: Warren Sports International, college: Winona St.) led Kataja with 26pts/6rbs. Virtanen netted 19 pts. Kataja lost the rebounds 26-36, but had less (11-16) turnovers. Kataja was also shooting better, especially from FT-line and behind the arc. Bobby Dixon (178-PG-83, agency: Beo Basket, college: Troy) led the visitors with 18 pts. Thomas Williams (201-F) added 14 pts and grabbed nine rbs.

Kataja - Pinar Karsiyaka 87-79 (52-37). (Jonte Flowers 26/6, Petri Virtanen 19, Dan Coleman 17, Johnell Smith 11. 1 - 66,7% (6/9), 2 - 61,5% (24/39), 3 - 42,3% (11/26). R: 15+11=26. TO: 11. - Robert Dixon 18, William Thomas 14/9, Abdul Aminu 11, Evren Buker 11. 1 - 53,3% (8/15), 2 - 62,5% (25/40), 3 - 36,8% (7/19). R: 21+15=36. TO: 16. A: 2221).

The Final Standings: 1) Pinar Karsiyaka (Turkey) 4-2, 2) Kataja (Finland) 3-3, 3) CS Gaz Metan Medias (Romania) 3-3, 4) BK Ventspils (Latvia) 2-4.

Quarter-Finals: Kataja (Joensuu) will meet next the winner of Group J: BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque (France). BCM Gravelines record was 5-1 in Group J.
Kataja and Gravelines will play two or three games starting in France:
March 12 Gravelines - Kataja,
March 14 Kataja - Gravelines and
March 19 Gravelines - Kataja (if needed).
