Sefton
Barrett
Canadian Sefton Barrett (196-SF-83, agency: Limelight Hoops) had a great game in the last round for league's leader KTP and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 34.
The 29-year old had a double-double of 24 points and eleven rebounds, while his team beat Kataja (#4, 23-6) 92-78. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed KTP to consolidate first place in the Finnish Korisliiga. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. KTP has a very solid 26-7 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. Barrett turned to be KTP's top player in his first season with the team. Sefton Barrett averages this season 16.2ppg and 5.8rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 23-year old Puerto Rican forward Gilberto Clavell (201-F-89, agency: KMG Sports Management) of Kouvot. Clavell impressed basketball fans with 26 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. It was enough for Kouvot to edge the lower-ranked Lapua (#10, 9-24) by 2 points 85-83. This victory allowed Kouvot to move up to 6th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 16-17 record. Clavell is a newcomer at Kouvot and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.4ppg (#4). He also registered 6.5 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was American Marcus Relphorde (198-F-88) of Salon Vilpas (#9). Relphorde got into 30-points club by scoring 31 points in the last round. He went also for seven rebounds . He was a key player of Salon Vilpas, leading his team to a 80-73 win against slightly higher-ranked LrNMKY (#7, 15-18). Salon Vilpas can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 10-24 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Relphorde he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Relphorde has a very solid season. In 9 games in Finland he scored 21.9ppg. He also has 7.6rpg and and 3PT: 43.9%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Samuel Haanpaa (203-SG-86) of Lapua - 28 points and 12 rebounds
5. Antwine Williams (192-F-75) of KTP - 27 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Jason Conley (196-G-81) of LrNMKY - 29 points and 8 rebounds
7. Charles Burgess (186-PG-84) of FoKoPo - 29 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Jason Conley (196-G-81) of LrNMKY - 18 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Lamonte Ulmer (198-SF-86) of Pyrinto - 15 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Shawn Atupem (200-F-89) of Salon Vilpas - 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Bottom-ranked Tampereen Pyrinto managed to get a fifth victory, breaking the series of five consecutive losses on Friday night. This time they edged fourth-ranked BC Nokia 83-81. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 83-81. 30 personal fouls committed by BC Nokia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for American point guard Andre Stringer (178-9...   [read more]
