Made the play-offs! - Mar 5, 2013

My team, Tapiolan Honka, has been performing pretty well lately:

Our record is 7-3 last 10 games which is good, but is has not been that easy: those wins include two 2-pt wins, twice we were down by almost 20 and turned the game around..so its been tough and I really appreciate my players effort and focus.

Our main opponents have lost some crucial games in last rounds, so our play offs spot is secured despite the fact that there are 2-4 rounds left in competition, we have two: ToPo and Porvoo, and yes, our 1st round opponent will be ToPo or Porvoo!

It will be interesting to see what will happen in those remaining regular season games, who does have to guts to to calculate and leave stuff and how much stuff for the play-offs?

My dear reader; U must understand this: Honka-ToPo is not Your average game, regular season, pre-season, play-offs game, not a big difference: U just have to beat the other guy.

The rivalry (=love/hate relationship) between these clubs has been going on for 50 years or so, great stories are told from those games, there has been heroes, villains, 2nd and 3rd generation players, bad calls, good calls, luck, bad luckBASKETBALL!

BTW ToPo has lost once at home this year, against .us. And in January they did something we cannot forget: they beat us BIG TIME, by 28 pts at our place. This is a big no no!

Besides: I worked at ToPo last year and this year they are coached by a good friend of mine MIkko Mantere.

So there is a little more fuel there into the battle of the metropolitan area.

Our last game will be against Porvoo. At the moment they are leading the league and there is a reason to this: they are very good, but they lack the depth ToPo and we have.

The city of Porvoo is located close to the Helsinki area, only 30 mins by car, so there will be a lot of people and (hopefully) hype in the remaining regular season games and in the play-offs.

Here the mandatory Joensuun Kataja comment: WOW!

The guys made it, cannot believe it, they made it! I am so happy for all those guys, players, coaches, management, board. They deserve this if somebody does!

Now the are one obstacle (BCM Gravelines Dunkerque) away from the final four in FIBA Eurochallenge.

HYV JTKT, Tsemppi!

Now it is time to go, Sauna time for Yours truly, so over and out!

Moikka

1st Division Round 3 of Regular Season - 2 days ago
After 3 rounds played we can already see who rules in the 1st Division and who belongs to weaker ones. There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. The most interesting game of round 3 was only one-point a home defeat of Korikouvot (1-2) to Forssan Koripojat (2-1) 98-97. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Korikouvot won third quarter 28-27. However it was not enou...   [read more]

Aaron Jones claims Finnish Korisliiga weekly honour - 2 days ago
American Aaron Jones (206-F-93) had a great game in the last round for Salon Vilpas and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 4. The 24-year old forward had a double-double of 23 points and nineteen rebounds, while his team edged out Kataja Basket (#5, 2-1) 84-81. Salon Vilpas is placed at 4th position in Finnish Korisliiga. Salon Vilpas is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more...   [read more]
