Korisliiga, round 35: Five interesting contests tonight. Three out of four top teams lost their game! Biggest upset took place at Lapua, where Korikobrat beat Kataja (Joensuu) 97-81 (44-28). Both teams had two American players on the roster, but Kataja (25-7) probably already thinking next week EuroChallenge games? Lapua (10-24) was better in everything. Samuel Haanpaa (203-SG-86) again making a double-double 26pts/15rbs, Dwight Tolbert (195-F-86, college: Lander) adding 20 pts and Jeffrey Bonds (199-F-82, college: Cal Poly Pomona) also helping with a double-double 16pts/11rbs. Lapua was shooting the FTs with 93% accuracy (27/29). Kataja's three Finnish guards only in double digits. Petri Virtanen (183-PG-80) scored game high 33 pts (1 - 7/7, 2 - 7/10, 3 - 4/11).
KTP (Kotka) was in difficulties vs Pyrinto (Tampere) during the first half, but KTP (27-8) won the third quarter 32-11 and finally also the game 93-78 (40-48). Devonne Giles (203-F-83, college: Texas Tech) was the game MVP with 28 pts and 16 rbs. Giles was 10/10 at FT-line and 9/11 (2) and 0/1 (3) with his FGs. Timo Heinonen (198-F-81) added 18 pts. Damon Williams (201-F-73, agency: Two Points, college: Colorado St.-Pueblo) led Pyrinto with 17 pts and Carl Lindbom (206-F-91) had a double-double 16pts/11rbs. Pyrinto (24-9) was shooting with 18% (3/17) accuracy from behind the arc.
Bisons (Loimaa) lost the second time on home court, when visitor Karhu (Kauhajoki) came back to the game during the third quarter (11-29) and finally winning 84-90 (44-33). Martin Zeno (196-G-85, college: Texas Tech) had scored 14 pts already during the opening quarter and 26 pts totally. Mikko Koivisto (194-G-87, college: NC-Greensboro) added 19 pts and Jeb Ivey (190-G-80, college: Portland St.) gave 12 assists. Eric Hicks (198-F-83, agency: KMG Sports Management, college: Cincinnati) led Karhu with 19 pts. Ilkka Vuori (181-PG-86) added 18 pts.
At Lappeenranta local YMCA lost vs FoKoPo (Forssa) 88-98 (51-37). Also here the third quarter was important especially for FoKoPo, when winning that 10 minutes 13-28 and getting back to the game. Matthew Gibson (196-G-84) led the hosts with 23 pts. FoKoPo (9-26) got all 98 points from the starters! Charles Burgess (186-PG-84, agency: Two Points, college: Texas Tech) was hot: 33 pts (1 - 11/14, 2 - 8/13, 3 - 2/6). Andrais Thornton (203-F-85, college: NW Missouri St.) added with a double-double 20pts/14rbs.
And in Lahti local YMCA was almost taking very important victory, but lost the last two minutes 2-14 and visitor Kouvot (Kouvola) was thankful: 77-81 (39-39). Emmanuel Holloway (185-G-86, college: Illinois St.) led YMCA Lahti (8-26) with 18 pts. Samuli Vanttaja (210-F/C-91) continued with his strong games, when leading this time Kouvot (18-17) with 18 points. Gilberto Clavell (201-F-89, agency: KMG Sports Management, college: Sam Houston St.) added 16 pts.

Kataja Basket - Salon Vilpas 94-65 Kataja Basket celebrated the Korisliiga title. They overcame Salon Vilpas in Game 6 to capture the trophy. Joensuun Kataja led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter.
