Division 1 A, round 22: As we know there is not a single Basketball team from Helsinki area playing in Top League (Korisliiga) this season. Torpan Pojat (Helsinki) and Honka (Tapiola) are play-off teams in Division 1, though, and meeting eachother tonight third time during the regular season. The wins were 1-1 before tonight's thriller. Teams needed this time an OT before it was clear ToPo had won 97-90 (79) (33-44). There were 64 fouls called (ToPo 29 - Honka 35), there were 70 FTs shot (ToPo 35/45, Honka 17/25) and there were 1000 people who saw this fight live! Hanno Mottola (209-PF-76, college: Utah) saved this game first into OT by scoring 79-79 bucket at time 39:34. Then during the OT Mottola scored 12 out of ToPo's 18 points. Mottola had 18 FTs in the game, made 15 of them. Mottola scored 27 points in 30 minutes. HL Coleman (202-F-74, college: Wyoming) (19pts/11rbs) and Marcus Capers (193-G-89, college: Washington St.) (17pts/10rbs) were the other two key players on ToPo (17-5) roster. Malik Moore (192-G-77, college: Amer.Internat.) led Honka (14-9) with 28 pts. Ronnie Clark (195-F/G-81) added 22pts/15rbs.
At Nokia BC Nokia (11-10) was close to upset Tarmo (Porvoo), but visitors won the last quarter 7-23 and by the same the contest 68-76 (43-35). Ville Tuominen (180-PG-89) led BC Nokia with 18 pts. Kraidon Woods (205-C/F-88, college: Drake) added 16 pts. Vernon Taylor (190-G-87, college: Troy) (Tarmo) had a double-double 24pts/10rbs. Isaiah Tate (192-G-89, college: George Mason) netted 15 and Jarno Nissinen (195-F-77) 14 pts. Tarmo (18-4) and ToPo will meet coming Friday, March 15 in Porvoo and the winner of that fight will probably win the regular season.
YMCA Oulu defeated Ura Basket (Kaarina 102-89 (52-45) and Riento (Saynatsalo) beat Huima (Aanekoski) 93-76 (57-31). An important victory for Riento!

After 6 rounds played we can already see who rules in the Korisliiga and who belongs to weaker ones. The most exciting game of round 6 in the Korisliiga took place in Tampere. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 4th ranked Tampereen Pyrinto (3-3) to third ranked Salon Vilpas (5-3) 86-85 on Saturday evening. After 4 rounds played we can already see who rules in the 1st Division and who belongs to weaker ones. There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with change at the leadership position, favorites losing the games and even winless team recording their first victory. Nift Al-Janoub inks Jahsha Bluntt, ex Quimper UJAP - 2 days ago
Nift Al-Janoub (Superleague) signed 33-year old American guard Jahsha Bluntt (198-100kg-84, college: Delaware State). The last season Bluntt played at Quimper UJAP in French NM1 where in 42 games he had 12.3ppg, 3.5rpg and 1.7apg. He helped them to end the regular season as a second best team in the league.
