Mullings
Canadian Guard Daniel Mullings (188-G-91) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Kataja Basket, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 3.
The 25-year old player was the main contributor (27 points, six rebounds and three assists) to his team's victory, helping them to crush Kouvot (#7, 1-2) with 20-point margin 89-69. Kataja Basket maintains the 3rd position in Finnish Korisliiga. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Kataja Basket won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Mullings had a remarkable 73.3% from 2-point range. He turned to be Kataja Basket's top player in his first season with the team. Former New Mexico State University star has very solid stats this year. Mullings is in league's top in points (2nd best: 25.5ppg) and averages impressive 79.3% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 26-year old American Steven Pledger (193-G-90) of Kouvot. Pledger had a very good evening with 34 points and 5 rebounds. Bad luck as Kouvot lost that game 69-89 to Kataja Basket (2-0). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Pledger is a newcomer at Kouvot, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 26.5ppg (#1). He also registered 5.0 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Desmond Williams (199-G-91) of league's second-best Salon Vilpas. Williams scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. He was a key player of Salon Vilpas, leading his team to a 80-71 win against BC Nokia (#9, 0-3). Salon Vilpas started extremely well this year. They recorded 3 victories without losing a single game. Williams turns to be one of the very best players in the league while he is also a leader of the top team having his eyes on the championship title. Williams has a great season in Finland. After only 3 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.3ppg (8th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Devonte Upson (206-C-93) of Helsinki Seagulls - 18 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists
5. DeVaughn Washington (202-F-89) of Kauhajoki - 14 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Gregg Thondique (201-F-87) of Kouvot - 14 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Papa Dia (208-F-87) of BC Nokia - 18 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Austin Hollins (195-F/G-91) of Kauhajoki - 24 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Sherman Gay (201-F/C-82) of KTP Basket - 15 points and 4 rebounds
10. Ville Kaunisto (204-PF-82) of Kouvot - 9 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

1st Division Round 3 of Regular Season - 46 minutes ago
After 3 rounds played we can already see who rules in the 1st Division and who belongs to weaker ones. There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. The most interesting game of round 3 was only one-point a home defeat of Korikouvot (1-2) to Forssan Koripojat (2-1) 98-97. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Korikouvot won third quarter 28-27. However it was not enou...   [read more]
