Teemu Knihtinen claims Finnish 1st Division weekly honour - Feb 7, 2017

Knihtinen
Talented Teemu Knihtinen (195-G/F-98) put on an amazing game in the last round for Korikouvot and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com 1st Division Player of the Week award for round 17.
The 18-year old swingman had a double-double of 39 points and thirteen rebounds, while his team beat TuNMKY (#1, 15-4) 90-79. Korikouvot maintains the 5th position in their group in Finnish 1st Division. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Korikouvot will need more victories to improve their 12-6 record. In the team's last game Knihtinen had a remarkable 75.0% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 6 attempts. He has many years of experience at Korikouvot, through which he has constantly improved. Knihtinen has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in rebounds (9th best: 10.9rpg) and averages solid 50.9% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 29-year old American swingman Roderick Flemings (203-F/G-87) of FoKoPo. Flemings impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 24 points and 22 rebounds. Bad luck as FoKoPo lost that game 90-103 to slightly higher-ranked Porvoon Tarmo (#6, 8-11). This loss caused FoKoPo to drop to 7th position in Division A. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 8-12 record. Flemings is a newcomer at FoKoPo and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was American Reginald Bratton (193-G/F-86, agency: Blacktop Management) of Namika Lr (#13). Bratton got into 30-points club by scoring 32 points in the last round. He went also for seven rebounds . Despite Bratton's great performance Namika Lr lost 73-88 to the higher-ranked HNMKY U23 (#8, 8-11). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Namika Lr can only dream about fighting for top spots in Division B. They have rather bad season and 2-16 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Bratton he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Bratton has a very solid season. In 5 games in Finland he scored 32.2ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. De'Andre Upchurch (188-G-91) of HyPo - 33 points, 13 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Arsene Towa (191-F-81) of Jarvenpaa - 30 points and 15 rebounds
6. Eero Innamaa (186-G-98) of TuNMKY - 33 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Emil Djeen (183-G-94) of ToPo - 19 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists
8. Riku Laine (197-F-97) of PeU-Basket - 33 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
9. HL Coleman (202-F-74) of Jarvenpaa - 22 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists
10. Rashad Smith (201-G-93) of Lahti - 22 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
