We bring you last week's top performances from Finns who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international power forward Erik Murphy (208-90, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management, college: Florida, currently plays in France). He led Strasbourg IG to a victory over the closely-ranked Le Mans (9-9) crushing them 92-63 in the French ProA in Saturday night's game. Murphy was MVP of the game. He scored 18 points, had 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 21 minutes on the court. Strasbourg IG (10-8) is placed eighth in the ProA. It's Murphy's first season with the team. This year Murphy averages: 9.3ppg, 3.7rpg, 1.7apg, 2FGP: 54.0%, 3FGP: 39.1% and FT: 85.7% in 18 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Despite Murphy played previously for the USA U18 national team, he is currently a member of the Finnish senior national team. Strangely Murphy has never played in Finland.

   #2. Second place goes to former international power forward Emir Sulejmanovic (204-95, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup). He was the major contributor in Cibona's victory against the tenth-ranked Stelmet (9-9) 81-69 in the A1 last Wednesday. Sulejmanovic recorded 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. KK Cibona VIP Zagrebis placed in the A1. Sulejmanovic's overall stats this season are: 9.3ppg, 3.7rpg, 1.7apg, 2FGP: 54.0%, 3FGP: 39.1% and FT: 85.7%. He has a dual citizenship: Bosnia and Herzegovina and Finnish. Sulejmanovic played for the Finnish national team in 2013.

   #3. The Finnish player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Sasu Salin (191-91, currently plays in Spain). He was the main contributor in a Gran Canaria's victory against the closely-ranked Unicaja Malaga (12-7) 76-71 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Saturday night. Salin was the best player in that game. He scored 12 points in 23 minutes. Herbalife Gran Canaria (11-8) is placed seventh in the Liga Endesa. This year Salin's overall stats are: 7.0ppg, 2.3rpg, 2FGP: 40.6%, 3FGP: 32.9% and FT: 84.2% in 18 games. He is also a member of the Finnish senior national team.

   #4. Point guard Petteri Koponen (194-88, currently plays in Euroleague) could not help FC Barcelona (8-13) in their last game on Thursday. Despite Koponen's good performance the 12th-placed FC Barcelona (8-13) was defeated 89-85 on the road by the higher-ranked Zalgiris (#10) in the group A of Euroleague. He scored 12 points. Koponen's total stats this season are: 9.8ppg, 1.3rpg and 2.0apg. He is also Finnish national team player.

International power forward Alexander Madsen (207-95, currently plays in Czech Republic) contributed to an USK Praha's victory against the sixth-ranked NH Ostrava (6-16) 81-70 in the Czech Republic NBL last Saturday. Madsen recorded 9 points and added 4 passes in 29 minutes. USK Praha (18-0) is placed first in Places 1-6 group. So far his team won all eighteen games in the Regular Season. Madsen has relatively good stats this year: 11.7ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.8apg and 1.4bpg in 22 games. He plays currently for the Finnish national team.

Shooting guard Antti Kanervo (192-89, agency: Blacktop Management, currently plays in France) contributed to a Chorale de Roanne's victory against the closely-ranked STB Le Havre (9-8) 83-76 in the French ProB (second division) on Saturday night. Kanervo scored 11 points and blocked 2 blocks. Chorale de Roanne Basket (8-9) is placed tenth in the ProB. Kanervo's total stats this season are: 9.5ppg, 1.4rpg and 1.2apg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Finnish National Team roster.

   #7. International guard Roope Ahonen (186-90, agency: Octagon Europe, currently plays in Greece) was not able to help Kolossos HH in their game against Promitheas (6-10) in the Greek A1. Ahonen recorded only 4 points in 24 minutes. Kolossos HH lost 68-78 in Patras to the lower-ranked (#9) Promitheas. This year Ahonen's total stats are: 7.8ppg, 1.7rpg and 2.3apg in 16 games. He is also Finnish national team player.

An experienced power forward Tuukka Kotti (205-81, college: Providence, currently plays in Germany) helped Crailsheim Merlins win their game against the 14th-ranked Ehingen/Urspringschule (6-15) crushing them 115-66 in the German ProA (second division) last Saturday. Kotti scored 10 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Crailsheim Merlins (17-5) is placed second in the ProA. Kotti has averaged so far 9.6ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.9apg. He plays currently for the Finnish national team.

International point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Movil Estudiantes (12-5) in their game against Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (9-10) in the Spanish Liga Endesa. Wilson scored 7 points in only 12 minutes. Movil Estudiantes lost 97-103 in a derby game to the lower-ranked (#9) Baloncesto Fuenlabrada. Wilson has averaged so far 8.7ppg and 1.5apg in 18 games. He is a naturalized American. Wilson is also in the roster of the Finnish national team. He used to play for Honka Espoo Playboys in Finnish league.

Point guard Harold Fiifi Aidoo (187-96, currently plays college basketball in the States) helped Grand Canyon win their game against the Bethesda University (9-10) crushing them 95-66 in the NCAA in Tuesday night's game. Aidoo scored 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. The Grand Canyon State University has 2-1 conference record this season. Aidoo has averaged so far 5.0ppg and 2.2rpg. He is a former international player as two years ago he still played for the Finnish senior national team.

   #11. International forward Matti Nuutinen (202-90, also represented by Blacktop Management, currently plays in France) is a teammate of previously mentioned Antti Kanervo and both played together in the last French ProB game. Nuutinen helped Chorale de Roanne win their game against the closely-ranked STB Le Havre 83-76. He scored 9 points in 18 minutes. Nuutinen has averaged so far 6.8ppg, 2.9rpg and 1.1apg in 17 games. He plays currently for the Finnish national team.

   #12. International power forward Lauri Markkanen (213-97, currently studies in the States) helped Arizona win their game against the Oregon State University 71-54 in the NCAA on Thursday night. Markkanen recorded 8 points and grabbed 9 rebounds (made all of his five free throws). Markkanen has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 16.0ppg and 7.3rpg. Markkanen is also in the roster of the Finnish national team.

   #13. International forward Alex Murphy (206-93, is currently at the American university), who plays in the NCAA couldn't help the one of league's weakest teams Northeastern (5-1) in their last game. Despite his good performance the Northeastern lost 69-73 at home to the James Madison University. Murphy scored 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 34 minutes. This year Murphy has relatively solid stats: 14.3ppg, 5.6rpg and 1.9apg in 24 games. He is a naturalized American. Murphy is also Finnish national team player. Apparently he has never played in Finland.

   #14. International small forward Shawn Huff (198-84, college: Valparaiso, currently plays in Germany) couldn't help Deutsche Bank Skyliners in their game against Bayern Muenchen in the German BBL. Huff cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 2 points. His team was crushed by 25 points 95-70. Huff has reliable stats this season: 11.8ppg and 3.8rpg. He plays currently for the Finnish national team.

   #15. Former international swingman Samuel Haanpaa (203-86, another player represented by Blacktop Management, currently plays in Argentina) managed to help Obras Basket Buenos Aires in a victory against the sixth-ranked La Union 74-70 in the Argentinian LigaA on Wednesday night. Haanpaa scored only 2 points in 19 minutes. Haanpaa has averaged so far 3.7ppg and 1.3rpg in 31 games. He used to play for the Finnish national team three years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Finnish passport but never been selected to any of Finnish national teams:

   #1. Remu Raitenan (206-F, currently plays college basketball in the States) managed to help University of San Francisco to win against the Loyola Marymount University (0-2) 74-64 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game. Raitenan scored 5 points. The University of San Francisco has rather weak 2-4 conference record this season. Raitenan has averaged so far 4.9ppg and 3.4rpg.

   #2. Anton Kankaanpaa (196-G-92, currently plays in NCAA2). He could not help the Southern Nazarene University (8-6) to beat the Arkansas Tech. Kankaanpaa cannot count Thursday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 2 points. his team was defeated 90-86 on the road by the Arkansas Tech. Kankaanpaa has been at the team for four years. Kankaanpaa has averaged so far 2.9ppg and 2.1rpg.

Kataja Basket - Salon Vilpas 94-65 Kataja Basket celebrated the Korisliiga title. They overcame Salon Vilpas in Game 6 to capture the trophy. Joensuun Kataja led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Joensuun Kataja dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Salon Vilpas' 26.
