Sixth-ranked Kouvot (11-16) gave a tough game to second ranked Salon Vilpas (20-7) in Kouvola on Wednesday. The visitors from Salo managed to secure only three-point victory 100-97. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Kouvot won third quarter 22-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Salon Vilpas looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American guard Desmond Williams (199-91, college: S.Connecticut) scored 25 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Al'Lonzo Coleman (201-89, college: Presbyterian) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) during the contest. The best for the losing side was American guard Michael Cuffee (195-83, college: Middle Tenn.St.) with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Salon Vilpas maintains second position with 20-7 record having just one point less than leader Helsinki Seagulls. Defending champion Kouvot keeps the sixth place with 16 games lost. They share the position with BC Nokia. Salon Vilpas are looking forward to face BC Nokia (#6) on the road in the next round. Kouvot will have a break next round.
Korisliiga top team - Helsinki Seagulls (20-6) added another victory to their record. This time they beat tenth ranked UU-Korihait (4-23) 80-73. American swingman Raymond Cowels-III (193-90, college: Santa Clara) notched 26 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) to lead the effort and Devonte Upson supported him with 8 points and 10 rebounds. Even 21 points and 4 assists by point guard Mikko Jalonen (186-82) did not help to save the game for UU-Korihait. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Helsinki Seagulls maintains first position with 20-6 record. UU-Korihait lost fifteenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 23 lost games. Helsinki Seagulls will play against KTP-Basket (#8) in Kotka in the next round and are hoping to win another game. UU-Korihait will play at home against Kauhajoen Karhu and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Salon Vilpas maintains second position with 20-7 record having just one point less than leader Helsinki Seagulls. KTP-Basket at the other side keeps the eighth place with 18 games lost. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of BC Nokia. Rion Brown scored 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Joensuun Kataja have a solid three-game winning streak. Joensuun Kataja maintains fourth position with 17-8 record. Loser BC Nokia dropped to the sixth place with 16 games lost. Joensuun Kataja will have a break next round.
