The Regular Season in Korisliiga is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 5 rounds.

Top ranked Helsinki Seagulls (22-8) recorded its eighth loss in Kouvola on Friday night. Visitors were edged by seventh ranked Kouvot (13-17) 69-66. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Helsinki Seagulls. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 39-34 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. American guard Steven Pledger (193-90, college: Oklahoma) fired 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Tuomas Hirvonen (181-96) chipped in 12 points and 6 assists. The former international Carl Lindbom (206-91) produced 17 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Defending champion maintains seventh position with 13-17 record. Helsinki Seagulls at the other side still keeps top place with eight games lost. They share the position with Salon Vilpas. Kouvot are looking forward to face higher ranked Joensuun Kataja (#3) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Helsinki Seagulls will play against Lapuan Korikobrat and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Kauhajoen Karhu (20-12) against sixth ranked BC Nokia (14-17) on Saturday night. Host Kauhajoen Karhu was defeated by BC Nokia in Kauhajoki 91-73. Worth to mention a great performance of Canadian Sefton Barrett (196-83, college: Cent.Michigan, agency: Blacktop Management) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 6 rebounds. Javier Duren contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. BC Nokia's coach Ville Tuominen allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Devonne Giles (203-83, college: Texas Tech) replied with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for Kauhajoen Karhu. BC Nokia maintains sixth position with 14-17 record. Kauhajoen Karhu at the other side dropped to the fourth place with 12 games lost. BC Nokia will play against bottom-ranked UU-Korihait (#10) in Uusikaupunki in the next round. Kauhajoen Karhu will play at home against the league's second-placed Salon Vilpas (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Newly promoted UU-Korihait stay dead last with 26 lost games. KTP-Basket will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. UU-Korihait will play against BC Nokia (#6) and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 34 Lapua was defeated by Kataja Basket in Joensuu 79-69.
The best stats of 34th round was 29 points and 6 rebounds by Rion Brown of Kataja Basket.

Kataja Basket - Lapua 79-69

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Lapuan Korikobrat's (15-16) road loss to fourth ranked Joensuun Kataja (20-8) 69-79 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Joensuun Kataja. Lapuan Korikobrat managed to win third quarter 19-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Joensuun Kataja looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Lapuan Korikobrat's players. The game was dominated by American players. Rion Brown (198-91, college: Miami, FL) scored 29 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Darryl Bryant (185-90, college: W.Virginia) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side guard Jamal Jones (203-93, college: Texas A&M, agency: Stealth Sport) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds and forward Damon Williams (201-73, college: Colorado St.-Pueblo, agency: Two Points) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Four Joensuun Kataja and five Lapuan Korikobrat players scored in double figures. Joensuun Kataja have an impressive six-game winning streak. Joensuun Kataja moved-up to third place. Lapuan Korikobrat lost third consecutive game. Loser Lapuan Korikobrat keeps the fifth position with 16 games lost. Joensuun Kataja will meet Kouvot (#7) in the next round. Lapuan Korikobrat will play against the league's leader Helsinki Seagulls and hope to secure a win.
