The Regular Season in Korisliiga just ended.

The game between second ranked Joensuun Kataja (25-11) and seventh ranked BC Nokia (16-20) was the most important one in the last round on Wednesday night. Joensuun Kataja was crushed by BC Nokia in Nokia 84-65. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Joensuun Kataja. The game was mostly controlled by BC Nokia. Joensuun Kataja managed to win fourth quarter 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for Senegalese forward Papa Dia (208-87, college: SMU) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 8 rebounds. American guard Isaiah Wilkerson (191-90, college: NJIT) helped adding 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was guard Ilari Seppala (188-93) with 18 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. BC Nokia moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Kouvot. Joensuun Kataja at the other side keeps the second position with 11 games lost. They share it with Helsinki Seagulls.
Korisliiga top team - Salon Vilpas (28-8) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat sixth ranked Kouvot (16-20) 89-72. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Kouvot. It was a quality performance for guard Michael Pounds (189-88) who led the winners and scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Brandon Edwards accounted for 10 points and 10 rebounds. American guard Steven Pledger (193-90, college: Oklahoma) came up with 14 points and 5 rebounds for Kouvot in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Salon Vilpas have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain first place with 28-8 record. Defending champion Kouvot keeps the sixth position with 20 games lost. They share it with BC Nokia.
The game in Kotka was also quite interesting. Third ranked Helsinki Seagulls (25-11) played at the court of 8th ranked KTP-Basket (13-23). Helsinki Seagulls defeated KTP-Basket 100-90 on Wednesday. The best player for the winners was Antto Nikkarinen who scored 14 points and 8 assists. Helsinki Seagulls' coach Mikko Larkas used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Antwan Scott who recorded 40 points (!!!) (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). Helsinki Seagulls moved-up to second place, which they share with Kataja Basket. Loser KTP-Basket dropped to the ninth position with 23 games lost.
The game in Lapua supposed to be also worth to mention about. 4th placed Kauhajoen Karhu (21-15) played at the court of fifth ranked Lapuan Korikobrat (17-19). Lapuan Korikobrat smashed Kauhajoen Karhu 104-67. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a good game for Damon Williams who led his team to a victory with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lapuan Korikobrat maintains fifth place with 17-19 record. Kauhajoen Karhu at the other side keeps the fourth position with 15 games lost.

In the last game of round 39 Pyrinto won against Korihait on the opponent's court 85-71.

Korihait - Pyrinto 71-85

Rather expected game in Uusikaupunki where 10th ranked UU-Korihait (5-31) was defeated by eighth ranked Tampereen Pyrinto (14-22) 85-71. UU-Korihait was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Tampereen Pyrinto made 19-of-25 charity shots (76.0 percent) during the game. It was a good game for American forward Tyrone Nelson (206-85, college: N.Mexico St., agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. The former international point guard Antero Lehto (185-84) contributed with 24 points for the winners. American forward Gary Johnson (198-91, college: Albany) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and the other American import forward Eric McAlister (204-90, college: Stony Brook) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for UU-Korihait. UU-Korihait's coach rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Tampereen Pyrinto maintains eighth place with 14-22 record. UU-Korihait lost their sixth game in a row. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 31 lost games.

The game in Kotka was also quite interesting. Third ranked Helsinki Seagulls (25-11) played at the court of 8th ranked KTP-Basket (13-23). Helsinki Seagulls defeated KTP-Basket 100-90 on Wednesday. KTP-Basket was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 37-26 charge of Helsinki Seagulls, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to KTP-Basket's 38. Helsinki Seagulls looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by KTP-Basket's players. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Antto Nikkarinen (185-91, agency: Blacktop Management) who scored 14 points and 8 assists. The former international Carl Lindbom (206-91) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Helsinki Seagulls' coach Mikko Larkas used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Antwan Scott (188-92, college: Colorado St.) who recorded 40 points (!!!) Salon Vilpas - Kouvot 89-72

Korisliiga top team - Salon Vilpas (28-8) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat sixth ranked Kouvot (16-20) 89-72. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Kouvot. It looked good early as Kouvot took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Salon Vilpas had a 19-11 second period charge getting the lead and Kouvot was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-89. Salon Vilpas dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Kouvot's 36. It was a quality performance for guard Michael Pounds (189-88) who led the winners and scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. American forward Brandon Edwards (198-91, college: Texas Arlington) accounted for 10 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Five Salon Vilpas players scored in double figures. Lapuan Korikobrat smashed Kauhajoen Karhu 104-67. The game without a history. Lapuan Korikobrat led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Lapuan Korikobrat players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a good game for forward Damon Williams (201-73, college: Colorado St.-Pueblo, agency: Two Points) who led his team to a victory with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
