Leo
Westermann
Leo Westermann (198-G-92, agency: Beo Basket) temporarily joined preparations of the French National Team. One of the top prospects in the country is called due to eye injury of Tony Parker (183-PG-82). Westermann left ASVEL on Sunday and yesterday he penned a 3-year deal with Serbian powerhouse Partizan Belgrade. Leo Westermann joined ASVEL two years ago from CFBB. Last season he had 8.8 ppg, 3.3 apg and 2.6 rpg for 29 games in ProA. The player also added 6 ppg, 3.6 apg and 2.2 rpg for 12 games in EuroCup. In 2010/11, Westermann had lower numbers.
Leo Westermann participated at the 2012 Nike Hoop Summit (World Team Selection) and last year he played at Adidas Eurocamp in Treviso. Westermann helped U20 France to win the Bronze at U20 EuroBasket 2011 in Spain. He had 10 ppg, 3 rpg and 2.3 apg for 9 games at this event. In the past, he very successfully played for U18 and U16 France. Last season Westermann was the winner of French ProA All-Star Game Skills Challenge.
As mentioned above, Leo Westermann participated at the 2012 Nike Hoop Summit, which was held in Portland earlier this year. He was in the starting five for the World Select Team and spent 28 minutes on the court. He had 4 points and 2 assists, while his team captured an 84-75 win over the USA Junior National Select Team.
Regarding the injury of Tony Parker: Parker was at the club when a fight broke out between musical artist Chris Brown and entourage members of hip-hop star Drake. In an interview posted on his website more than a week ago, Parker said an additional round of medical tests last week found that a shard of glass had "penetrated 99 percent" of his left eye. The injury was initially thought to be a scratched cornea. Parker said he would decide on the Olympics after consulting with a New York eye specialist July 5. France begins play July 29 against the U.S. team.
