What's up, basketball world?

My last post is quite old now, and a lot of things happened since that day. The team I'm working with as an assistant coach -Nantes Rez Basket, french women's 1st div- is now 3W-0L, a couple of weeks before entering the EuroCup pool stage.

Working with this group is great. The team is well balanced, from every point of view: Profiles of players, talent, positions, tempers, youthness/experience, etc... Our state of mind is to stay focused on each game, one after the other, and we don't have crazy ambitions and unreachable goals to achieve. We just stay humble and work. And win games, of course.

This is my second experience as an assistant coach with a W's professional team. The first one was about 10 years ago, and the season ended with a bankrupt, and weird things coming along. In Nantes-Rez, it's different: this kind of scenario can not happen here. We have a strong front office, and a solid organization. Probably one of the best of the league, which makes things easier for both coaches and players. The only thing we, coaching staff, have to care about is basketball, basically...

Our next two games are going to be tough. Next saturday, we will play home against Lyon. They have a bunch of good players, and the team is probably a title-contender. The head coach is the former one of Nantes-Rez, which makes the game a bit more spicy. After that, on saturday oct. 20, we'll fly to Perpignan, for another tough game against the solid runner up from 2nd div.

And then will come the EuroCup... 6 games to play, at least. The competition will change our habits, because we are going to play on wednesday/thursday (EuroCup) and weekends (domestic league). Less time to practice, crazy schedule, and a huge road trip to Novosibirsk, Siberia. Great experience. We'll play in the pool D against Wasserburg (Ger), Sint Katelijne (Bel), and Dynamo Guvd Novosibirsk (Rus). I can't wait, and I guess I'm not the only one.

Talk to you soon, hoopsters...

PS: Congratulations to my former player Kai Williams and his team of Pizza Express Apollon (Limassol, Cyp), just qualified for the FIBA EuroChallenge... Have a good season!

Camille
Coste
Aulnoye adds Coste to their roster - 5 days ago

Aulnoye AS (LF2) added to their roster 20-year old guard Camille Coste (168-96). She played last season at Tango Bourges Basket in the LFB. LFB was a little too high level for her, where in only one game she did not score anything and 1 assist. LF2 will be definitely a better match and she can see more playing time. Coste played 1 game in Eurocup where she recorded just 2 points. Coste played in the final of French LFB. The previous (14-15) season she played at Pays d'Aix. LFB was a littl...   [read more]

Aulnoye lands Najat Ouardad - 5 days ago

2) tabbed 26-year old point guard Najat Ouardad (152-90, college: Auburn) from Tarbes Gespe Bigorre. She has played there for the last three years. In 15 LF2 games she averaged 3.9ppg, 1.9rpg and 1.4apg last season. Ouardad helped them to win the LF2 title. She was a member of French U16 National Team back in 2006. Ouardad has played previously professionally in WBCBL (Auburn F.). She attended Auburn University until 2013 and it will be her fourth season in pro basketball....   [read more]

Rio 2016: USA march past France, into Final - 7 days ago

USA - France 86:67 Team USA will play in the championship game in Rio de Janeiro. They prevailed against France in the semifinal clash. Diana Taurasi (182-SG-82, college: Connecticut) posted 18 points to pace the North American side. Team USA eked out a 19:15 lead ten minutes into the game. The teams traded baskets throughout intense second quarter. USA led by just four points at the interval 40:36. They stepped on the gas in the third term though. Team USA went on a strong 25:8 run in...   [read more]
