What's up, basketball world?

My last post is quite old now, and a lot of things happened since that day. The team I'm working with as an assistant coach -Nantes Rez Basket, french women's 1st div- is now 3W-0L, a couple of weeks before entering the EuroCup pool stage.

Working with this group is great. The team is well balanced, from every point of view: Profiles of players, talent, positions, tempers, youthness/experience, etc... Our state of mind is to stay focused on each game, one after the other, and we don't have crazy ambitions and unreachable goals to achieve. We just stay humble and work. And win games, of course.

This is my second experience as an assistant coach with a W's professional team. The first one was about 10 years ago, and the season ended with a bankrupt, and weird things coming along. In Nantes-Rez, it's different: this kind of scenario can not happen here. We have a strong front office, and a solid organization. Probably one of the best of the league, which makes things easier for both coaches and players. The only thing we, coaching staff, have to care about is basketball, basically...

Our next two games are going to be tough. Next saturday, we will play home against Lyon. They have a bunch of good players, and the team is probably a title-contender. The head coach is the former one of Nantes-Rez, which makes the game a bit more spicy. After that, on saturday oct. 20, we'll fly to Perpignan, for another tough game against the solid runner up from 2nd div.

And then will come the EuroCup... 6 games to play, at least. The competition will change our habits, because we are going to play on wednesday/thursday (EuroCup) and weekends (domestic league). Less time to practice, crazy schedule, and a huge road trip to Novosibirsk, Siberia. Great experience. We'll play in the pool D against Wasserburg (Ger), Sint Katelijne (Bel), and Dynamo Guvd Novosibirsk (Rus). I can't wait, and I guess I'm not the only one.

Talk to you soon, hoopsters...

PS: Congratulations to my former player Kai Williams and his team of Pizza Express Apollon (Limassol, Cyp), just qualified for the FIBA EuroChallenge... Have a good season!

Bouderra's 32-point game gives her Player of the Week award - 2 hours ago
27-year old guard Amel Bouderra (160-G-89) had a very impressive game in the last round for league's best team Flammes and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 15. She had the game-high 32 points adding three rebounds and eight assists for Flammes in her team's victory, helping them to beat Landes (#3, 10-4) 87-82. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Flammes to consolidate first place in the French LFB. Flammes have a solid 12-3 reco...   [read more]

LFB Round 15: Flammes defeat Basket Landes in the game between Top 4 teams - 1 day ago
An interesting game for Flammes (12-3) which hosted in Charleville 3rd placed Basket Landes (10-4). First ranked Flammes managed to get a 5-point victory 87-82. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Basket Landes. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Basket Landes won fourth quarter 23-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Flammes made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. 27 perso...   [read more]

Shawnta Dyer claims French LF2 weekly honour - 1 day ago
American Shawnta Dyer (185-F-91, agency: Two Points) had a great game in the last round for COB Calais and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com LF2 Player of the Week award for round 14. The 25-year old forward had a double-double of 22 points and eleven rebounds, while her team edged out CFBB (#14, 2-12) 70-66. COB Calais maintains the 4th position in French LF2. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. COB Calais will need more victories to...   [read more]
