Naturalized Bulgarian forward Ilian Evtimov (201-F-83) had a very impressive game in the last round for second-ranked Chalon, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 5. The 29-year old player was the main contributor (26 points, eight rebounds and three assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Orleans (#14, 1-4) 85-80. Chalon is placed at 2nd position in Bulgarian ProA. They are still close to the very top. Chalon would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 4-1 record. In the team's last game Evtimov had a remarkable five three-pointers out of 8 attempts. He has many years of experience at Chalon, through which he has constantly improved. Ilian Evtimov averages this season 13.2ppg.
The second best player in last round's games was 25-year old Ivorian Souleyman Diabate (183-PG-87, agency: Beo Basket) of Nancy. Diabate had a very good evening with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Bad luck as Nancy was edged by the higher-ranked Nanterre (#5, 3-2) 82-78. Nancy is still in a red zone at 13th spot in the standings. 4 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Nancy managed to get this year. Diabate is a newcomer at Nancy, but is already one of team's top players.
Third on the list of top players last round was American forward Caleb Green (203-F-85) of Orleans (#14). Green scored 27 points. Despite Green's great performance Orleans lost 80-85 to the higher-ranked Chalon (#2, 4-1). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Orleans can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-4 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Green he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Green has individually a great season in France. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.0ppg (3rd best) and rebounds with 7.2rpg (6th best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Darryl Monroe (202-C/F-86) of Boulazac - 15 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists 5. Steed Tchicamboud (193-G-81) of Chalon - 17 points, 3 rebounds and 10 assists 6. Ousmane Camara (202-C-89) of Gravelines - 11 points and 15 rebounds 7. Terrell Everett (193-G-84) of Cholet - 20 points, 3 rebounds and 9 assists 8. Alexis Ajinca (215-C-88) of Strasbourg - 17 points and 9 rebounds 9. Coleman Collins (206-C/F-86) of Roanne - 12 points and 11 rebounds 10. Marcellus Sommerville (200-F-82) of Nancy - 20 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
